Extra surprise in 'store' for Bean Festival visitors Visitors to the fifth annual Zurich Bean Festival scheduled for this weekend are in for a big surprise in addition to the usual ex citing entertainment and . excellent food. Saturday, buses will provide transportation to nearby Green Acres Farm where stars of the popular TV show will be portrayed. Tractor and horse-drawn vehicles will be on hand for personally guided tours of the farm and Sam Drucker's general store. The two-day affair gets going Friday night with a Bean Festival dance at the Zurich arena at which time a "Bean Queen" will be selected. aye You Seen It. Mr. & Mrs. Keith Hodgins and family of London. Mrs. Gordon Wick and Debbie of Dorchester visited for a week with Mrs. Wick's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. George Snell and family. A reunion of the family of Mr. & Mrs. Russell Schroeder was held at the home of Mr. & Mrs. B. Webb, Grand Bend, Sunday, with 35 in attendance. The new Queen will be crowned by last year's winner, Miss Donna Schilbe of Zurich. The contest is open to any girls in the area and the winner has been invited to participate in a beauty contest to be staged at the Mid-Western Rodeo in Exeter Beans take over the spotlight at noon on Saturday. Visitors can see beans cooked in huge kettles right out on the street in the village. After a quick look, customers will be able to dig right into a healthy helping of beans, served along with cooked ham, coleslaw and buns. The price of the meal is moderate and table accommodation will be provided. The Lions Club will be staging a rummage sale in the afternoon and pony rides and a midway will be available to entertain the youngsters. For the grown-ups there will be the opportunity to partake of horse shoe throwing, solo and checkers. Merchants will have special displays set up in a central area of the village which will be blocked off to form a mall. In addition, other Huron County specialities such as dutch apple pie, honey and summer sausage will be available for sale. Several features have been added to this year's Festival. Saturday afternoon, the South Huron Pony Trotting club will be staging a complete program of pony races at • the Zurich Fairgrounds. A large midway is being provided for the children along with an antique car display for all age groups to enjoy. Continuous entertainment will be provided throughout the afternoon by two musical groups from London. The big event will close with a giant fireworks display at dusk, Saturday night. Believed to be the only festival of its kind in Ontario, the Zurich Bean Festival was organized by a group of public spirited citizens of the village and area with the co-operation of the Zurich Chamber of Commerce.
