Lucan and district obituaries., As a gesture of community friendship members of the Lucan Women's Institute entertained as many of the senior citizens of the district as cared to attend at a picnic at the Lion's Park, August 6, Games such as lawn. croquet, cro kinole and euchre were provided for all and an ice-breaker for the crowd when arriving, known as the Yes and Cheryl Elizabeth Bloye, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Max L. Bloye, and William Robert Campbell, son of Mrs. Grace S. Campbell, exchanged marriage vows in St. Paul's Cathedral, London, July 25. 1970 with Rev. Mr. P.R. 0' Driscoll officiating. The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose a floor length A-line gown of heavy white lace and carried pink roses. She wore a Juliet cap of matching lace and full length veil. Susan Bloye, the bride's sister No bean game, was organized by Mrs, Cecil Robb. Nine members of the W.I. provided extra chairs and card tables and help from Mr. and Mrs. Murray Hodgson was much appreciated. The Lion's Club also allowed the use of the refreshment booth. At noon hour, lunch was served under the trees. Progressive euchre was and Victoria Boggs, the bride's cousin, were bridesmaids. Tracey Boggs was flower girl and Mark Edginton was ring bearer for the double ring ceremony. The three attendants to the bride were gowned alike in floor length floral crepe-de-chine and wore large brimmed hats and carried gathering baskets of yellor and white mums and daisies. John Laipnieks was groomsman and Wayne King ushered the guests. Following the reception and banquet the bride changed to an oatmeal linen suit with pink accessories and corsage of pink gardenias for travelling. The couple will reside in London. Honoured guests were the bride's grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. H.C. Murless of Clandeboye and Mr. & Mrs. A.W. Bloye of St. Thomas. By MRS, STAN PRESZCATOR Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Pfaff returned home Friday after holidaying in the Bruce Peninsula. Eber Lewis spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Wein. Tammy and Barbara Preszcator are holidaying in Kincardine with Mr. & Mrs. Ron Preszcator. Brenda Glanville is holidaying with Mr. & Mrs. Ron Foran and Karen of Blyth. Mr. & Mrs. Stan Preszcator returned home from holidays. They were spent at Manitoulin Island and Kitchener. Mr. & Mrs. Ron Preszcator and family of Kincardine and Mr. & Mrs. Jim Miller of Vanesa visited Sunday afternoon with Mr. & Mrs. Stan Preszcator. Mr. & Mrs. Stan Preszcator and Lorna and Barb Glanville visited Sunday evening with the latter's parents, Ed. Regele of Walton. enjoyed under the direction of Mrs. Cecil Neil assisted by Mrs. Sheridan Revington. Prizes were awarded as follows: high lady, Mrs. Rose Atkinson; high man's card, Mrs. C. Neil; second high lady, Mrs. Mary McCarthy; second high man, Harold Ryan. First lucky chair, Mrs. Laura Toohey; second lucky chair, Mrs. Ben Kelly; guessing the value of the gift box, Mrs. H. Ryan and Mrs, Mary Mackey. It is hoped that a Senior Citizens' Club will be formed. Maureen Smith is attending University of Toronto Summer French School at St. Pierre et Miquelon for the months of July and August. Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott have returned from a holiday trip to Wiarton where they were guests of Mr. & Mrs. Allen Tindall. Mr. & Mrs. A. E. Reilly attended their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Haist's 25th wedding anniversary at Ridgeville, August 8. Miss Lina Abbott won the bowling prize for the highest total score for the month of July. Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Armitage motored to Chatham early Saturday morning and visited Mrs. William Aylestock and Rev. Addie Aylestock, and enjoyed a tour of Chatham in the afternoon. Mrs. Aylestock sent her best regards to all her friends in Lucan. Mrs. Jack Murdy called on the Lucanites now in the McCormick Home last week. Miss Lina Abbott celebrated her 83rd birthday, August 5.. Mrs. Saward returned from a tour of the Thousand Islands, Laurentians and many other interesting places, Sunday evening. Church group on Act Fast By MRS. HUGH MORENZ SHIPKA The Berean Bible class of Greenway United church were taped on the Act Fast program Sunday evening. Mrs. Ethel Pollock was interviewed by Bill Brady and Mrs. Harry Sheppard acted out the charade. The program will be shown on TV this Sunday. St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Lucan was decorated with yellow, white and bronze mums, when the Rev. Father F, J. Bricklin performed the double ring ceremony to unite in wedlock, Lois Elaine O'Neil and Carl Henry Van Geel, July 11, 1970. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Merna O'Neil and the late Joseph O'Neil of RR 1 Lucan, and the groom is the son of Jacobus Van Geel and the late Mrs. Catherine Van Geel of RR 1 Lucan. The soloist, Chris Van I3ussel, of RR 3 Lucan, was accompanied by Miss Betty Mor kin. Given in marriage by her brother, Don O'Neil, the bride chose a gown of imported silk lagoda and Venice lace, featuring a high reversed-style collar, an empire-style bodice and bell-shaped sleeves. Bands of lace led to a Chapel-length train, and a headdress consisting of a floral cluster held a cathedral-length veil. She carried a cascade of yellow mums and tangerine roses with white stephanotis Her maid-of-honour, Marlene O'Neil, By MRS. 3, H. PATON CLANDEBOYE Mr. Marrinan, Sr., is in St.Joseph's Hospital where he underwent an operation Monday. His eight year old grandson, David Marrinan, had an operation in St. Joseph's Hospital. CHURCH Sunday at St. James Church, the service was taken by Rev. R.A. Carson with Clandeboye United Church also in attendance. The sermon topic was The Faith and the Church, Yesterday, To-day and To-morrow. Rev. Carson said there are two days in every week about which it is useless to worry. One is yesterday with its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders and the other is to-morrow. It too, is beyond our control. Our present trials are easier to bear without remorse for what happened yesterday, or dread of what to-morrow may bring. Therefore, journey one day at a time, stated Mr. Carson, Next Sunday services will continue at St. James at 9:45, and then switch to the United Church for August 23 and 30. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Joe Machovjak, sister of the bride, and her bridesmaids, Margaret O'Neil, also a sister of the bride, and Walda Van Geel, sister of the groom, all from RR 1 Lucan, wore identical costumes. They were empire-style floor-length gowns of yellow chiffon, which featured high neck-lines, long full sleeves, and a back panel topped with a bow. Their head-pieces ited of short veils caught up ,mall cluster of rosettes. They ried cascades of yellow, e...gerine and bronze mums. The best man was John Van Geel of London, brother of the groom, and the ushers were Keith O'Neil of London, brother of the bride, and Keith Van Geel, brother of the groom, of Lucan. A reception was held in the Mediterranean Room, Westown Plaza, London. The bride is a graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Radiology, and the groom is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, in Engineering. The young couple will make their home in London after they return from a trip to the East coast. Erie, Penn., children, David, Marie and Marylin spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Roy Cunningham and Mrs. Omar Cunningham. Mr. & Mrs. J.E. Cunningham of Glencoe visited Wednesday evening with the Cunningham family. William Simpson is home again after spending two and half weeks in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mrs. Earl Paton of London and Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Carley of Bellevue visited Monday evening with Mrs. J.H. Paton and William Allwright. Mr. & Mrs. Maurice Simpson have had their granddaughter, Cindy Banks, Bright Grove, visiting them. Mr. & Mrs. Edward Boland of Belmont visited Mr. & Mrs. James Donaldson. Mr, & Mrs. Harry Murless visited their daughter, Mrs. Joan Boggs, Wednesday and Thursday in Toronto. Mrs. Ken Carter and Stephen Carter visited Mr. & Mrs. Dick Parker of Harriston at Sauble Beach. Alan Cunningham is out and around after many weeks of being in St. Joseph's Hospital and in bed at home. MRS. °RAGE GIDLEY Mrs. Grace Mildred (Welch) Gidley, of Lucan, died in St. Joseph's Hospital, July 29, 197(1. at the age of 79. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Walter Gidley, and a son, Edward She is survived by a son, Bert Gidley, of London Twp. and a daughter, Margaret (Mrs. Clifford Hartwick) of Bryanston, also 12 gran d children and two great-grandchildren. The body rested at the C, Haskett and Son Funeral Home, Lucan, where the funeral was held by Rev, It, A. Carson, July 31 with interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tom Colwill, Dennis Gidley, Vaughan Hartwick, Owen Gidley, Gary Gidley and Terry Vangs. JOHN FREDERICK TUKE John Frederick Tuke of 30 Yale Street, London, died suddenly at the age of 77 at his cottage at Ipperwash, Saturday, August 1, 1970. He is survived by his wife, the former Rachel Nixon; a daugh ter, Mrs. Glenn (Isobel) Haskett, of Lucan; grandchildren, Carol and Douglas Haskett and a sister, Mrs. Etta Jones of South Dakota. Mr. Tuke was pre-deceased by James and William Tuke. The body rested at the C. Haskett and Son Funeral Home, Lucan, where the funeral service was conducted by Rev. J. G. Morton of Coibourne. August 4. Interment was in the Birr United Cemetery. The pallbearers were Paul Dukelow, Clarence Stanley, Jack Ryan, Chester McComb, Clarence Lewis and Emiel DeBlock. WILLIAM AVERY William Avery of Lucan died in St. Joseph's Hospital, Sunday, August 2, 1970 at the age of 74. He is survived by his wife, the former Ellen Whalen, sons James, Kenneth and Bernard, all of Lucan and a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Kathleen) Whitbourn, of Mount Brydges. The C. Haskett and Son Funeral Home conducted the service and Rev. R. A. Carson officiated, August 4. Interment in St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye. The pallbearers were Cliff Shipley, John Park, Charles Whalen, Charles Holmes, Harvey Hodgins and Bill Frost. KIMBERLEY . LEITCH Kimberley Anne Marie Leitch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence (Jim) Leitch of Lucan, died in Victoria Hospital, August 9, 1970 at the age of nine years. Besides her parents Kimberley is survived by sisters Valerie and Lorie, both at home; grandparents, Mrs. Lily Dobbs, of Exeter and Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Leitch of Denfield. The body rested at the C. Haskett and Son Funeral Home, Lucan, where service were held by Rev, W. C. Tupling. Pallbearers were Jimmy Hunter, Bill Darling, David Revington, Philip Lewis, Glen Hodgins and Gary Leitch. Flower bearers were Wayne Hall, Paul McFalls, Mark Leitch, Beth Arenthals, Pam Smith, Karen Leitch, Wendy Kraul, Ferne Mardlin, Kevin Carter and Barry Tilley. MRS. VERNA JONES Mrs. Verna ('Vollans) Jones, of Lot 1, Conc. 13 London Twp. died in St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 68, August 5, 1970. She is survived by her husband, Alvin Jones, two sons, Ivan Jones of Chatham and Arthur Jones of London Twp.; a brother, Bernard Vollans of Windsor; a sister, Mrs. Henry (Hazel) Thresher of Old Castle, Ontario; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The body rested at the Q. Haskett and Son Funeral Home until August 6, then to the Reorganized Latter Day Saints Church, Brydges Street, London, where the funeral service was conducted by High Priest Allan Bacider ,assisted by Mr. Wismer. Interment was in Siloam Cemetery, Pallbearers were Ivan, Arthur and Wayne Jones, Wayne Newman, Ron Gilbert and John N. Elliott. CHARLES DOUGLAS GOWAN Charles Douglas Gowan, of Oranton, died suddenly in Biddulph Twp„ August 3, 1970, at the age of 62. He is survived by his wife the former Olive Langford, a daughter Mrs. ,James Bakker, of London, and a sister, Mrs, Clayton (Bessie) Langford of Biddulph Twp.; two grandchildren, Vicky and Benjamin Bakker, The body rested at the C..
