CARMEL A bridal shower was held at the home of Rita and Mary Anne Glavin, Monday evening to honour Mary Lynn Dietrich, a cousin of the joint hostess. Games were enjoyed and refreshments served after many beautiful and useful gifts were opened. Mary Lynn thanked everyone. Angela Mary Morrissey hosted a surprise shower for girl-friends to honour Jane McCann, Sunday evening. After opening her gifts, lunch was served and Jane thanked each friend as they enjoyed a happy time together. Tuesday evening, in school gym, aunts and neighbour ladies held a miscelleanous shower for Jane and she was assisted in opening her gifts by her sister Margaret and by several cousins. Jane received many gifts for which she thanked each one for giving. Refreshments were served to a large crowd of relatives and friends. By MISS ELLA MORLOCK CR EDITON Emmerson Wenzel of Crediton, passed away at Westminster Hospital, London, August 8, 1970, in his 83rd year. He was born in Wallace Township. Mr. Wenzel served in World War I and on July 20,1921 he was married to the former Lillian Krotz. He started a barber shop in Crediton where he worked for forty years until his retirement nine years ago. He was a member of Zion United Church, Crediton. Mr. Wenzel is survived by his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Edward Davis of Toronto and Mrs. Alex McKelvey of Saskatchewan, and five brothers, Addison, a twin brother, of Gowanstown, Wesley and Edward of Alberta, Harvey of Saskatchewan and Clarence of Palmerston. One brother Reuben predeceased him. The funeral was held August 11, from the T. Harry Hoffman Funeral Home at Dashwood, Rev. Douglas Warren officiating, with interment in Wallace Cemetery. Pall bearers were Allan Finkbeiner, Gordon Finkbeiner, Gordon Ratz, Ross Haugh, John Wade and John Fuller. Mrs. Alvin Finkbeiner and Mrs. Clarence Fahner ppured tea, while Mrs. Lawrence Amos, Mrs. Jim Gould, Mrs. Ken Rader and Mrs. Doug Dowson served the guests. Mrs. Hugo Schenk assisted in the kitchen. HOME FROM EUROPE Anna Marie Pertschy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Pertschy, knew last December that if she passed Grade VIII she would get a trip to Europe. June 30 she flew to Montreal then on to Frankfurt, Germany, via Amsterdam. At Frankfurt she was met by her cousin and uncle. They made the 106 mile trip to Mingolshiem by car. Mingolshiem has a population of six thousand. Morlock and Bender are common names on with *Mr. & Mrs. Wilfred Hogan and Margaret Anne. Anne and Angela Regier of London were weekend visitors with their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Regier. Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Micallif, Windsor, spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Hubert Carey and Pat Carey returned home after a week's holidays in Windsor. Mr. & Mrs. Sanford White, Windsor, spent the weekend with friends and attended the funeral of Mrs. Joe White who was buried in Seaforth last Saturday morning. Mary Anne Glavin, London is spending her holidays with Mr. & Mrs. Joe Glavin. shops. There are few supermarkets, the shops being chiefly the small, specialty kind. Bread is sold unsliced. You carry your own wrapping for purchases. Beauty shops are rare since women do their own hairdressing. There were no shorts or slacks. The maxi is not • popular, but Anna Marie saw both minis and midis. There are five meals a day, with coffee the favourite drink. "The Black Forest area is really beautiful," said Anna Marie, "and the castles interesting." Snow fell in the mountains after her arrival and the weather was cool, but hot weather returned before her departure. During the return flight, turbulence over Toronto,, forced the plane to circle for a considerable time before landing. Amsterdam, Anna Marie felt, had the most efficiently operated airport. PERSONALS The public library will be closed until August 25. Shawn Dinney is a patient at War Memorial Hospital, London and Lorne Finkbeiner has been admitted to South Huron Hospital. Mr. & Mrs. John Templeman returned home Saturday from a motor trip to the western provinces where they visited with the Duncan's at High River, Alberta, Bonnie Kerslake at Banff and Mr. & Mrs. Graham Wark and family, Killarney, Manitoba. Susan and Jill Norris holidayed this past week with Joan Burleigh, Goderich and Jackie Burleigh holidayed with Patti Norris. Edna and Janet Miller, London spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Miller. Nancy Templeman holidayed for a few days at Wasago Beach with Tracey Martyn. Mr. & Mrs. Johnny Miller, Karen, Shirley and Steven holidayed this past week at Wasago Beach. Geraldine Templeman holidayed for a few days with Karen Fowler, Mitchell.
