SLIMMERS CROWN QUEEN — Mrs. Barbara Snell was crowned queen at the semi-annual crowning which was celebrated by the Centennial Slimmers Tops Club recently. Mrs. Snell lost 43 pounds, while runners up Betty Johnston, left, lost 21 34 pounds and Ann Preszcator, right, lost 17 pounds. Associates pay tribute to Children's Aid Director About 40 friends and associates of Miss Clare McGowan honored her at a dinner at The Little Inn at Bayfield, recently. Miss McGowan who will retire as director of Huron County Children's Aid Society this fall was presented with a gold watch. Bert Corbett was master of ceremonies and the address was given by Mrs. Esther Ross. Mrs. Ross praised Miss McGowan for the happiness she has brought to many children and for the friendliness, cheerfulness and thoughtfulness shown to her associates and hundreds of others in the County. Since August 1961, she has been Local Director and is a well known and respected figure of the County of Huron. Training course for 4-H leaders A 4-H Homemaking Club Leaders' Training School will be conducted at Exeter United Church, August 24 and 25. The fall project, Focus on Fitness, will teach the girls the fundamentals of good physical and mental health, as well as first aid, highway and home safety, and the importance of being a good citizen both in home and in community. 4-H clubs are run strictly by volunteer leaders who wish to do their part in preparing girls for the future. Catherine Hunt, Home Economist for Huron County will conduct the training school. dinner was served in the church parlour, where the parents of the bride and groom received guests from Yorkshire England, Detroit, Belleville, Toronto, Brampton, Lindsay, Owen Sound; Gorrie, Mitchell and surrounding area. Following a reception at the Seaforth Legion Hall, the young couple left for a honeymoon around the Georgian Bay area and Niagara Falls, with the bride wearing a sleeveless dress of pink jersey knit with matching coat and bone coloured accessories. They have since taken up residence on the bridegroom s farm at Cromarty, Vieitaad4e - Zion United Church, Crediton was decorated with mixed summer flowers when Muriel Glanville, Kitchener, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Preszcator, was united in marriage with Philip Biernaskie, Kitchener, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Biernaskie, Barry's Bay, July 18, 1970, with Rev. H. G. Dobson officiating and Carol Amos providing the wedding music. Given in marriage by her father the bride wore a full-length gown of white chiffon and lace with hooped skirt. Her veil fell from a tiara of brilliants and she carried yellow roses, stephanotis and baby's breath and ivy. . The bridal attendants were Joan Collins, London, maid of honor, Katharine and Barbara Glanville, bridesmaids, and Barbara Glanville, flower girl. The maid of honor wore a gown of tangerine orange silk while the others chose dresses of lemon yellow. They all had bouquets of orange and yellow carnations with baby's breath and ivy. Orland Caulas, Kitchener was best man and the bride's brothers, Murray and Richard Glanville ushered the guests. The reception was held in Crediton Community Hall after which the bride changed into a blue pant suit with white accessories. Scott, all of Cromarty. The organist, Miss Agnes Bray, played 'Trumpet Voluntaire' as the bridal party entered the sanctuary, and accompanied Nola Dow, guest soloist. The bride, given in marriage by her parents, chose a floor length gown of nylon over taffeta, featuring an empire waistline trimmed with satin ribbon, stand up collar, and long sleeves. The bodice, sleeves and lower skirt were enhanced with tiny tucks and bands of white daisy trim. Her finger tip, three tiered, silk illusion veil was held by a double wedding ring band of daisies centered with pearls. She carried a cascade of white shasta daisies, bridal pink roses and ivy. The bridal attendants, Gayle Bough tflower, Joanne Dow and Ethel Mae Mitchell were gowned alike in pink dresses of nylon swiss dot over crystal satin which were styled with stand up collars, long sleeves and a fold out pleat with self bow, falling from the back waist. Tiny white daisy trim centered with pink enhanced the high neckline, sleeves and empire waist. Harry Norris, acted as groomsman, and Alec Scott, brother of the groom and -Brian Dow, brother of the bride were ushers. Following the ceremony, District couples wed Youth attends conference By MRS. Bridal attendants were Mrs. Glen Overholt and Helen McCann, and Mary-Jo McCann was flower girl. They wore • chiffon dresses of pink, blue and yellow with frilled collars and trimmed with lace. Each wore a white headpiece and carried a bouquet of white shasta daisies. Groomsmen were Pat McCann and Richard Grenier, and Robert Grenier acted as ringbearer. The guests were ushered by Gerard Grenier and Jim McCann. Mrs. Stephen Meidinger and the church choir performed the wedding music. • The wedding reception was held at Dashwood Community Centre, after which the newly %!‘ weds left for a honeymoon at Midland and Wasaga Beach, the bride wearing an aqua dress and coat ensemble with navy accessories.
