T-A photo At 4 tok st tl NO 12 23 1970 NAME JUNIOR COACH The executive of the Lucan Irish Six junior hockey team recently appointed a new coach for the coming Ontario Hockey Association Junior "D" season. Handling the team from the bench this year will be Bill Neil, who was a valuable member of the Lucan-Ilderton Jets 1969-70 OHA Intermediate "13" champs. Church news Anglican and United Church congregations attended a combined service last Sunday at the Holy Trinity Church, Lucan, the service being conducted by Rev. R. A. Carson. Mr. Carson's sermon was entitled, 'Libel, Slander and Religion'. Combined service will be held again next Sunday at Holy Trinity Church, and Mr. Carson will be in charge. ORANGE TRASH CAN COFFEE II OUSE To date the Young People have been enjoying the fruits of their efforts. The Coffee House has been in operation since June 21. The House is open to all high school teenagers. SUPERVISED PASTORIAL EDUCATION Rev. R. A. Carson is completing the second six weeks of the course he began last summer. The aim of this course is to train ministers of religion to work with the sick and distressed at home or in hospital. In this course students have an opportunity for close co-operation with members of hospital staffs and for working intensively with patients. By the sharing of experiences under competent leaders, participants in the course come to a better understanding of the spiritual needs of all people and cultivate a greater skill in ministering to them. TEMP LEMAN STAFFA The Hibbert United Church held their annual Sunday School picnic at the Seaforth Lions Park, Wednesday. PERSONALS Visiting with Mrs. Wilbur Glanville and her family for a few days were Mrs. Ethel Birman, Lake Odessa, Michigan; Mrs. Lyle Count and children, Clarksville, Michigan and Mrs. Vel Brauher, Clarksville, Michigan. Mr. & Mrs. Bob Norris and family visited recently with Mr. & Mrs. Jack Burleigh and family, Goderich. A social evening was enjoyed at the Hibbert United Church Thursday evening when David Kemp showed pictures of London home for couple Barbara Joyce Hodgson, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth. W. Hodgson, RR 3, Lucan became the bride of Patrick Alexander Moffatt, son of Mr. & Mrs. David M. Moffatt, RR 1, Granton, at a wedding ceremony performed by Rev. Robert Wilson in Centralia United Church, July 18,1970. David Elston supplied the organ music and accompanied the soloist, Kevin Sharpe of London. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was charming in a traditional gown of silk organza and chantilly lace, with fitted bodice, square neckline and lily point sleeves. The full bouffant skirt was accented by panels of lace and a panel train fell softly from the back shoulder. A matching headpiece held a four tiered scalloped silk illusion veil. She carried a bouquet of mauve and white mums. Bridal attendants, Laura French and June Bedford wore mauve dresses with lace bibs and their flowers were of mauve and white baby mums. Charles Clark, brother of the groom, was best man and the other attendants were Richard Moffatt, Brian Hodgson and Bill Harkness. A wedding reception was held in the church parlours and dance in the Lucan Community Centre in the evening. For a wedding trip to northern Ontario the bride wore a deep yellow, mauve and white ensemble. The future home of the newly weds is London where the groom is employed with Len Coleman Mr. & Mrs. Robert Jeeves, Cnett and Bobby from Jamestown, New York, Miss Rosemary Fischer of Dunnville, Richard Schenk of Cayuga, Mrs. Mary Tipping of Toronto, Mr. & Mrs. William Varga, Marie, Danny and Billy, and Mr. & Mrs. Robert Bennett all from London, visited with Mrs. Katherine Fischer last week. Mrs. John Blair of Calgary, formerly of Lucan, aged 88, passed away in Calgary Hospital, last week. Her burial was in Calgary. She is survived by one daughter Thelma (Mrs. Walter Nichols) of Calgary. Mrs. Roy Hodgins of Lucan visited with former Lucanites at McCormick Home last Friday. Susan LeNeve was a Sunday visitor with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Robb. Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Thibideau Broughton Island N.W.T. Mr. & Mrs. Bob Norris attended the Dolmage-Lacroix wedding in London, Saturday. Mr. & Mrs. Russell Miller and Lee, Mr. & Mrs. Jack Butson and Rae, Joanne Templeman & Dave Capling, Mitchell, were guests at the Dow-Scott wedding in Cromarty Presbyterian Church, Saturday. Mr. & Mrs. John Templeman visited Sunday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Bob Mayer, Farquhar. Mrs. Ruby Brooks and family, Brampton are holidaying with Mr. & Mrs. John Hocking and Jim and Mr. & Mrs. Art Smale and family. WI plans picnic for senior citizens Lucan WI held a business and work meeting at the home of Mrs. M. H. Hodgins last Thursday with the president, Mrs. Frances Saward, taking the chair. After considerable discussion on the report of the committee it was agreed to sponsor a Senior Citizens' picnic in the morning of August 6, in the Lion's Park, followed by a noon luncheon. A committee was appointed to arrange a fall fashion show. The 441 course 'Accessories for the Bedroom' will be conducted by Mrs. Harold Snelgrove and Nancy Hardy. At the close of the business session the ladies made scrap books for the War Memorial Children's Hospital, while they enjoyed refreshments served by Mrs. Hodgins assisted by Mrs. Frank Jolliffe. Mrs. Jean Stoner, from Niagara Falls, New York, visited her aunt, Mrs. John Park, last Friday. Mrs. Fred Dobbs, and Mrs. Reba Clarke of Exeter, and Mrs. Gladys Atkinson of Lucan, were guests of Mrs. Frank Hardy Sr., last Friday. Mrs. W. T. Bitter from Toronto visited her sister Mrs. H. B. Langford for a few days. Miss Lina Abbott assisted by Miss Govenlock, a returned missionary, had charge of the third summer service at the Mc- Cormick Home, Sunday. Mr. & Mrs. Ross Graham of Arkona and Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Armitage attended the funeral of Mrs. Earl Winegarden, last Thursday afternoon and the reception which followed at the Parkhill Community Centre, and in the evening attended the Funeral Home at Dashwood for Rosalie Carey. Mr. & Mrs. Alma Darling of London with Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Armitage attended the wedding reception and dance for Mr. & Mrs. Pat Moffatt at the Lucan Arena, Saturday evening. Many district residents were present at the Kirkton Party, last Wednesday, including Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Lewis of Granton, Mr. & Mrs. Hamilton Hodgins and Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Armitage. Mr. & Mrs. Evan Hodgins visited Mr. & Mrs. Bill Bannister in London, Sunday prior to Mrs. Bannister entering Victoria Hospital, Tuesday. Local girl at conference Two hundred girls from Ontario were chosen to represent their counties or districts at a 4-H conference in Guelph. Nancy Hardy of Lucan considered herself very lucky to be chosen one of the seven representatives from Middlesex County. The girls had to have taken at least 10 home-making 4-H courses to become eligible. The girls registered Tuesday afternoon, and their program began immediately with interest groups in music, crafts, and effective speaking, and also a get-acquainted party. Dr. Ethel Chapman began the Wednesday schedule by speaking on the theme of the Conference, `A Girl and Her World', followed by a conducted tour of the MacDonald Institute. Later that day Dr. J. T. Powell spoke on 'Work and Play' followed by a group discussion and a guided tour of the University campus. Wednesday evening the film of Waterloo-Oxford District High School Glee Club performing in Japan at Expo '70 was shown. Thursday was spent in learning more about 4-H, such as leadership, how to set up exhibits and fashion shows.A talk `Investments in Yourselves' was given by Miss Helen McKercher. In the evening a banquet was enjoyed, the Hon. Wm. A. Stewart being guest speaker. After the banquet all the girls took part in a Variety Show. The conference ended Friday morning with a demonstration on flower arranging and a tour of the landscape Design Area. Said Nancy, "This has been a wonderful experience, and I wish every 4-H club girl could have the opportunity to attend one conference and realize just what 4-H work is really worth to 'A Girl and Her World'. Reunion for Donaldson clan By MRS. J. H. PATON CLANDEBOYE The Donaldson Reunion was held Sunday in Clandeboye with 35 guests attending from London, Granton, Lucan, Mrs. John McLaren of Thompson, Manitoba was guest of honor. Attending the Kirkton Garden Party were Mrs. James Donaldson, Mrs. Arnold Lewis, Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Carter. Mr. & Mrs. Mervin Carter and Ian entertained Mrs. Edna (Hodgins) Paynper, Detroit, and Mrs. Arthur Hodgins, London, last week. Cindy Donaldson is visiting at Kirkton and June Donaldson is at Ipperwash with friends. Mr. & Mrs. Maurice Cobleigh of Lucan visited William Allwright & Mrs. Paton Monday evening. Wm. Simpson is improving after being in St. Joseph's Hospital for some time. Allan Cunningham is home from hospital but has to be confined to bed for a week and return to hospital for check up. Mr. & Mrs. Stewart Adkins, North Bay, Ansley Neil, Exeter and Mr. & Mrs. Rea Adams, London, visited Sunday afternoon with Mr. & Mrs. Rea Neil. TO INSTRUCT CATICHISTS Rev. Stanley Tomes of Rothesay, King County, New Brunswick called to see his mother, Mrs. Emily Tomes Saturday. He left Sunday morning by plane for Big Trout Lake. Mrs. James Hodgert, Exeter, Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Cann, Judith and Bradley returned home Saturday evening from a motor trip to the west coast for a month. Diane Hodgert and Susan Morgan are attending camp at Goderich this week. Leroy Dixon; Ailsa Craig, visited last week and Murray Dixon, Ailsa Craig, is visiting this week with Michael Stewart. NORMAN LONG KIPPEN Guests during the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. David Triebner were Mr. Brock Parker of London, Lyn Parker of Nobel, John Kreller of Kitchener, Marshall Quarry, St. Thomas, Brian Triebner, Fergus and Faye Jackson of Parry Sound. Mr. & Mrs. Eldon Kerr and Mr. & Mrs. Scott Kerr of Dorchester spent the weekend in U.S.A. Mr. & Mrs. Ray Bell together with Mr. & Mrs. Alf Ross of Staffa visited friends in Bracebridge and Latchford over the weekend.
