GEORGE VRIESE As George hangs up his Esso Agent's hat for the last time, Imperial Oil would like to say a few words of appreciation of his 15 years of service. George has played an important part in the progress of this community and will go on doing so in his many endeavours in between his busy work day schedule. As an agent he found time to take an active part in community affairs, as a councillor and a member of various commissions. Mrs. Mac Hodgert, Mrs. Glen Lamport and Mrs. Jack Stewart were in charge of the tables. After dinner sports under the leadership of Mrs. Floyd Stewart and Nancy Alexander were conducted and the winners were Julie Lamport, Barry Gunnington,Paul Stewart, Cheryl Cann, Lori Lynn Stewart, Joyce Ctinnington. Marlene Glanville, Lee Hodgert, Elaine Stewart, Diane Hodgert, Richard May, Ronnie Stewart, Carolyn Glanville, Janice Stewart, John Miner, Barry Miller. THOMAS .HERN The annual Hern family reunion was held July 12 at Riverview Park, Exeter, After dinner the president Ron Hern presided over the business. An afternoon of fun followed. Sports included a variety of races, kick the slipper and a skipping contest for the children. Relays and games were enjoyed, A prize for the longest name went to Marion Christine Eveleigh; for guessing the candies, Bev Skinner„ and for guessing the mystery box, Earl French, Prizes were also awarded for the most lace, youngest child, most buttons, person comi ng the farthest, the oldest person and the longest pant leg. Family members were present from Milton, Tavistock, London, Exeter and area, St, Joseph's Hospital 'London, having undergone surgery on his knee: Mrs. William Thomson, Exeter, Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde visited. Friday with Mrs. Robert Ross at her cottage Kincardine.. Margaret Kernick Toronto spent the weekend with her parents Mr. & Mrs, Donald Kernick. MELLIN Death occurred Sunday, July 12, at Strathmere Lodge of William Henry Mellin in his 85th year, husband of the late Elizabeth Hartle (1944). Survivors include two sons Orval and Russell Mellin of Stephen Township; six grandchildren and three/ Bay, Ontario, is spending some time with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Walter Fydenchuk. Linda recently graduated from the McKellar Hospital School of Nursing, Thunder Bay. She will be working in the Intensive Care Unit at McKellar Hospital in September. Clare Skinner of London has returned home after a tour of Europe. Upon arrival in England he purchased a motor cycle and visited many points of interest in England, France and Spain. Prest and Cindy, Ailsa Craig, Joan, Catherine and Marion Cunningham. For the joint service held Sunday, Rev. W. C. Tupling spoke on "Weeds Among the Wheat." For the next five Sundays services will be conducted by Rev. Robert Carson in St. James Church at 9:45 a.m. After church Sunday morning the CI an d egirls served refreshments to the congregation. Mr. & Mrs David Newman and Ken and Greg, left for a holiday in Calgary. Mrs. Margaret Estes, Royal Oak is visiting with Mr. & Mrs. David Kestle and Janice. Mrs. Clare Paton was %pleasantly surprised when 45 members of the Young Conquerors Fife and Drum Corp., who had been playing in Kincardine, dropped in and played several numbers. The band's leader is Addison Kicks, London, and Mrs. Loreen Tattison who was travelling with the group suggested the Clandeboye stop, Allan Cunningham returned home after a lengthy stay at St. Joseph's Hospital. He will be confined to bed for another two weeks. Elizabeth Hill is a lifeguard and swimming instructor at the Imam swimming pool for the summer months. Mr. & Mrs. Warren Brock, Exeter, were Sunday guests with Mr, & Mrs. Edwin Miller. Mr. & Mrs. Herb Bibby returned home after having been to the east coast recently. Diane Hutton Winchelsea is visiting with Janet Bray. Mr. & Mrs. Herb Bosley London visited Sunday evening with Mr. & Mrs, Glenn Jeffery. FRED BOWDEN CENTRALIA Community ladies enjoyed a bus trip to Kitchener, Wednesday, of last week. The day began by visiting the Farmer's Market, followed by a tour of the Syroco Ltd. (plastic gift ware factory). After dining at the Berkley they visited the Woodside National Historic Park and Doon Pioneer Village, SHOWER FOR BRIDE-ELECT Decorations were arranged to make an attractive setting in the schoolroom of the United Church for the community shower, Monday night, honoring Linda Gloom, bride-elect of this month. Piano solos were played by Mrs. Alvin Essery, Lois Elliott, Penny Smith and Joanne Smyth. An address was read by Mrs. Ken Hodgins. Dianne Breen and Bonnie Blair displayed the gifts. Young sisters of the bride-elect were in charge of the guest book. Linda expressed thanks for the lovely gifts. PERSONALS Mrs, Ken Greb was in Mount Albert last week attending her uncle's funeral and visiting with her mother, Mrs. Amos Smith who returned with her for a few days visit. Her daughter, son-in-law, and great-grandsons Jeff and Daryl Greb accompanied Mrs. Smith to her home in Mount Albert and remained for the weekend. Mrs. Ed Finkbeiner led a sing-song with Mrs. Lawrence Amos accompanying. Helen Finkbeiner played a piano solo. Karen and Gwen Finkbeiner sang 4. to the accompaniment of Gwen's guitar. The address was sung by all the guests. Mrs. Ken Rader, Mrs. Jim Gould, Brenda Fahner and Karen .Finkbeiner assisted in the opening of the gifts. Karen recorded comments made by the guest of honour while opening the gifts, then read them aloud at the close, to the amusement of all. PERSONALS A delightful spot in Crediton is the garden at the home of Mr. & Mrs. William Smith. Rose culture is the hobby of their son Gerald and he has at present a profusion of beautiful flowers in bloom. HUGH MORENZ Around 40 relatives and friends attended a dinner party at the Dufferin Hotel, Centralia, Saturday night, to honor Mr. & Mrs. Bill Latta on their 30th wedding anniversary. They were presented with gifts of a mirror and electric clock. The annual Pickering reunion was held at Shipka Community Centre, Sunday with around 50 in attendance. Mr. & Mrs. Les Adams attended a family gathering at Exeter with their cousins Mr. & Mrs. Stan Mosier, of North Carolina, and Mr. & Mrs. Charles Goodman, ofDetroit. Mrs. Louis Gable of Pittsburgh, Penn. visited Tuesday with her cousin, Mrs. H. Morenz. Gary Latta of Waterloo is holidaying with his aunt and uncle Mr. & Mrs. Lome Devine.
