HEBER DAVIS SAINTSBURY The ACW meeting was held in the Parish Hall, Wednesday evening. The President, Mrs. Hugh Davis opened with devotions, followed by a business meeting. The mystery prize donated by Mrs. Heber Davis was won by Mrs. Hugh Davis. An account of the Perth Deanery meeting in Listowel was given by the president. The rector's wife, Mrs. Rokby-Thomas, was presented with a small token prior to their departure for Europe. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Firby and Teresa, St. Thomas, Mr. & Mrs. Mel Scrimshaw and family, Hamilton, were Sunday guests and Mr. & Mrs. Al Shannon, London and Monday guests with Arva, cousin of Miss Lina Abbott, was organist of a church group who put on a program at the McCormick Home last Wednesday. Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Thompson, Mrs. Kay Haggar, Stuart Thompson, and Mrs. George Hodgins visited their brother Hyram, in St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, Sunday and were pleased to find him somewhat improved and in good spirits. Murray Abbott left last Mr. & Mrs. Bill Johnson and boys. Mr. & Mrs. Winston Chong and Michelle, New York, are holidaying with their cousins, Mr. & Mrs. Ron Chisholm and family. Danny Cunningham is recuperating at the home of his parents, after a two week stay in hospital following his accident. Mr. & Mrs. Fred Dobbs and children attended a teachers' staff party, Friday evening held at Grosvenor Gate, London. H. S. McLean, Teeswater, visited with his daughter and family, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Dobbs last week. Mr. & Mrs. Wilson Armitage, London, and Mr. & Mrs. Ivan Stanley, Denfield, Mr. & Mrs. Cleve Pullman, Whalen were recent guests with Mr. & Mrs. Heber Davis. Jean Barker spent the weekend with her friend, Cathy Hearn, Lucan. Saturday for California where he will be the guest of his son, Clayton Abbott and family. John Herbert of George Street, who has been a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, for the last 10 days, is now home, but still not feeling much better. Last Thursday, the McCormick Home Auxiliary held its annual turkey dinner at Dorchester. Among the two bus-loads of residents who attended were the four former Lucanites. Not only did all enjoy a sumptuous dinner, but each was given a colourful gift of stationery, a ball-point pen, candy and an Avon product. Mr. & Mrs. M. H. Hodgins spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Donald Langman at their cottage near Port Colborne. While there they visited Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Flynn at Port Colborne and Mr. & Mrs. Harry Clement, of Fonthill. Mrs. Laura Abbott who has been a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, following a fall in her home, was able to be brought home last Thursday. Mr. & Mrs. Jim Mugford who took Murray Abbott to Toronto to catch the plane, spent the weekend with Miss Wood. Jim Madson has bought the Mary Northgrave house on Water Street. Members of the Thompson family gathered at the home of Dr. and Mrs. T. A. Watson, for a party to honour the newlyweds, Mr. & Mrs. Jim Thompson with a presentation last Saturday. Mr. & Mrs. Calvin Macklem, Janice and Jim have moved into their new home, the Ian Dallas' home, on Kent Street. Mr. & Mrs. Marshall Webster are moving into the apartment Former Lucanite dies in Strathroy Will iam Berry hill died suddenly in Strathmere Lodge, June 27, 1970, age 78, He is survived by his wife Amy Sawyer. The body rested at the C. Haskett and son Funeral Home, Lucan, until Monday when Rev. W. C, Tupling performed the Funeral Service. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The pall-bearers were Duncan McNaughton, William Frost, Jim Lockyer, Earl Mathers, Calvin Marshall and Victor Smith. , Mr. Berryhill had lived near Lucan all his life, and after about 10 years in the village of Lucan,, sold his farm and moved to Strath mere Lodge five years ago. above Raacliffe's Drug Store, recently vacated by the Macklem family. Mr. Webster is the new manager at the Bank of Montreal in Lucan. Mrs. David Egan is still seriously ill in Victoria Hospital. Sunday, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Coughlin held a family gathering of 24 people for a going-away party for Mr. & Mrs. Don Coughlin, who will be leaving, July 2 for a two month vacation touring Europe. Mrs. Katherine Fischer was a guest at a trousseau tea given by Mrs. Connie Durfey at her home in London, in honour of her daughter, Penny's forthcoming marriage to Wayne Fischer. Mrs. Tommy Thompson, her son Tommy, and Ruth Anne Chisholm were Saturday guests of Mrs. Katherine Fischer. Two weeks ago Mrs. Walter Gidley of George Street, who lives alone, fell in her home and was unable to get up, or make anyone hear. Being a wet day no neighbour dropped in and as a result she lay there for two days, before her daughter, Mrs. Clifford Hartwick, of Bryanston, found her, and had her taken to her home. While there she fell again and broke her leg. She is now a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. & Mrs. Don Abbott and Mr. & Mrs. Jim Barker visited Mrs. Cliff McLean at Strathroy Hospital last Saturday. UNITED Members of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church worshipped at the Lucan United Church in a combined service conducted by Rev. W. C. Tupling, while Rev. R. A. Carson is taking his vacation. The Ceremony of Dedication to Missions was conducted by Mr. Ed Melanson, C. E. Chairman, and two representatives of each youth group in the church spoke and presented their offerings to Mr. Tupling. Lessons were read by Luanne Taylor and Janice Walker, and the theme of Mr. Tupling's Sermon was entitled, You and Your Neighbour. Next Sunday the Sacrament of Holy Communion will be observed at the regular morning service. Combined Services will be held at the United Church the first two Sundays in July and the last two in August, and at Holy Trinity from July 19 through August 16, when Mr. Tupling will be on vaeation. Bath minister will be in his own pulpit for Labour Sunday. Lions install new officers June 26, the Lucan and District Lions Club held its yearly steak barbecue and installation of officers for 1970-71. The members and wives were greeted by Lion Jim Young and Mrs. Young at whose home this enjoyable event was held. Lion Bill Amos and wife attended from Parkhill and Mr. Amos presented the new officers to the members of the Club. They are as follows: president, Gordon Brooks; 1st vice pres., Jim Shipley; 2nd vice pres., Len Knight; secretary, Alex Boyes; treasurer, Grigg Vollrath; tail-twister, Gary Manders; lion tamer, Jim Freeman; past pres., Bob Taylor; directors, Gary McFalls, Bill. Tupling, Clare Stanley and Harold Butler. A special invitation was extended to the tradesmen and wives who helped complete the new facilities at the Lions Club Park in time for the annual Sports Day. New President Gordon Brooks assured the members of his strong leadership with their co-operation for newer and better things for 1970-71. Thames road lady off to England By MRS. Lynn Waters, Carol Sainsbury, Mary Gay Brooks, Toronto, visited Monday afternoon with Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Jeffery and Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde before their departure to Australia for a year. Mr. & Mrs. William Snow attended the Elliot reunion at the summer cottage of Mr. & Mrs. Sandy Elliot, Grand Bend, Sunday. Mrs. William Thomson, Exeter, Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Jeffery, Alan and Connie, Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde attended the Switzer reunion Sunday at Queen's Park, Stratford. Ethel Miner, Baie Verte, Newfoundland arrived home Saturday evening after having spent the past two years at Baie Verte Hospital as a lab technician. Stewart and Mrs. Miner. By MRS. M. H. ELSTON BIDDULPH Mrs. Robert Blair held a trousseau tea Saturday afternoon and evening in honor of her daughter Judy, Bride-elect of July 4. Mrs. Blair, Mrs. D. MacLeod Mills, Whalen, mother of the groom-elect received the guests with Judy. The dining room was tastefully decorated in yellow, green and white. Her wedding cake and yellow' tapers adorned the table from which Mrs. Brian Wedlake, Exeter, and Mrs. Jack Glover, Exeter, served. UCW Members of the evening unit of the UCW of Lucan United Church, and their guests, Rev. W. C. Tupling and Mrs. Tupling, met in the C. E. building Tuesday evening, and enjoyed a pot-luck supper arranged by Mrs. Orville Jones and Mrs. Ed Melanson. After a brief business session Mrs. Frances Saward took the chair, A thought-provoking worship service was conducted by Mrs. Melanson, assisted by Mrs. Jones. HOLY TRINITY SUPPER The annual Strawberry and Ham supper at Holy Trinity Anglican Church was successful but caused great consternation and worry to the ladies in charge. At the appointed hour patrons arrived to find an ambulance of all kinds of foods except berries. Scouts soon rounded up a number of boxes, but not enough for all the guests. However, everyone reported having a good supper and the ladies apologized for having to dissappoint those vitho didn't have berries with their meal. Funeral service for Granton man John Mills died suddenly at his residence, RR 2, Giranton, Saturday, June 27, 1970, age 60 years. He is survived by his wife the former Dorothy Hickey and sons, Harold, Blanshard Township, Nelson, St. Marys, Ronald of Granton; daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Florence) Millson, Clandeboye, Mrs. Danny (Donna) Worton; a brother, Frank, Leamington; two sisters, Mrs. Bert (Letty) King, Windsor and Mrs. Donald (Marjory) Wallace, Carlingford, and sixteen grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by C. Haskett Funeral Home, and Rev. Susan Seymour officiated, June 30. Interment was in Granton cemetery. Pallbearers were Elmer Harlton, Bill Thomson, John Oliver, Ken Hodgins, Walter Jones and Percy Hodgins. Thirteen of Mr. Mill's grandchildren acted as flowerbearers. Mr. Mills was a life time resident of Blanshard Township. Baking sale is a success By MRS. J. H. PATON CLANDEBOYE The ladies of Clandeboye held a successful bake sale in Lucan, Saturday to raise money to help pay for the street lights. The convener, Mrs. Clarence Carter reported a profit of $49.20, which leaves a balance of about $5.00 yet to be paid on the lights. PERSONALS Wm. Simpson has returned home after five weeks in St. Joseph's Hospital. Jimmy Carter, son of Mr. & Mrs. Carlyle Carter, London, is visiting and helping his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. M. Carter, Clandeboye. Thomas Kestle left Sunday for British Columbia where he expects to spend two months. Mrs. Russell Blake and son Wilmer, Ailsa Craig, Mr. & Mrs. Norman Blake, London, Mrs. Lorraine Sprigley and son, Johnny, London, motored to Toronto, Sunday, to visit Mrs. Chester Blake. Mr. & Mrs. Wilfred Cunningham attended the Ritchie reunion held at the farm of Mr. & Mrs. Will Ritchie, near Parkhill. Mr. & Mrs. Joe Cunningham and family are spending a few days helping their parents Mr. & Mrs. Wilfred Cunningham on the farm. Rev. Tupling conducted joint services, Sunday at the United Church. These services will continue for two more weeks. Mrs. Clark Fisher, Exeter, grandmother of Judy, poured tea and Mrs. Dale Froats, Lucan displayed her trousseau. Mrs. Larry Lynn, Exeter, and Mrs. Earl French, Whalen, Bonnie and Robin Blair, Glenda Fisher and Faye Blair showed the shower and wedding gifts. Those who assisted in the kitchen were four aunts of the bride-elect, Mrs. Amos Warwick, Port Huron, Mrs. Ben Fisher, Mrs. Glenn Fisher, Mrs. Harold Rowe. During the evening, Mrs. Ron Hern and Mrs. Dale Froats served and Mrs. M.H. Elston poured tea. Nancy, Brenda and Pat Blair and Denise Fletcher displayed the gifts. Helping' in the kitchen were aunts of Judy, Mrs. Don Blair, Mrs. Jack Blair, Mrs. Ron Fletcher; and Mrs. Ken Greb. PERSONALS Mervin Elston received news from San Bruno, California, Sunday of the death of his brother, Harry Neil Elston, who died June 27.
