Earl Steinman and Wilfred Becker attended the 59th Convention of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, for the Ontario District at Waterloo University, June 12-14. At the convention a move to have the Lutheran Church of Canada to become an independent church body was defeated. The convention concluded Sunday with the dedication of Lutherwood, a home for emotionally disturbed youth near Waterloo. The home has been built and will be operated with the co-operation of the Ontario government. It is not restricted to Lutherans. Ontario Health Minister, Thomas Wells, was guest speaker at the dedication service. U.C.W. MEETING The June U.C.W. meeting was held June 9, with Mrs. Eben Weigand chairlady. Mrs. Lloyd Eagleson led in worship. Mrs. Weigand read a speech by Chief Dan George on adjustments an Indian has to make. It stressed that Indians only ask for equality ... which everyone wants. The record of Roger Smith, director of the London Rescue Mission, was played. It gives his life history on one side and several selections of his family singing hymns on the reverse side. Rev. Bruce Guy was moderator with panelists Mrs. Don Gaiser and Mrs. Gordon Bender for 'Under Attack' to make everyone feel they too were at Westminster College. A sing song followed. LADIES AID The regular meeting of the Ladies Aid of Zion Lutheran church was held June 10 with Group III in charge of devotions, program and lunch with Mrs. Albert Miller, convener. Pastor Steinman dealt with the topic, 'Toward Christian Unity' which involved Bible study and discussion. Carol Rader played accordion selections. Mrs. Lorne Genttner, president, presided for the business. The Altar Guild reported 17 calls and the new Guild is Mrs. Ervin Devine and Lady dies at Oshawa MT. CARMEL Word was received here of the sudden passing of Mrs. Jim Conlin of Oshawa, Saturday. She was the former Josie Glavin and was born and raised near St. Peter's Church on Highway No. 4. She is survived by four sons and a brother, Rev. Father Raphael Glavin of Windsor. PERSONALS Sister Margaret Hogan visited over the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Wilfred Hogan and Mr. & Mrs. Joe Re ier and their families. Mrs. John Hall and twin sister, Miss Tillie MacCormick arrived home by plane this week after a very enjoyable trip to Europe and British Isles. A large turnout of CWL members attended the June meeting held in Precious Blood School, Exeter, Tuesday evening. Mrs. Wm. Muller, president, gave an interesting paper on the convention held in May in Hotel London, Mr. & Mrs. Hubert Carey, Rosalie and Geraldine motored to Windsor over the weekend and attended a wedding reception. Mr. & Mrs. Joe Carey spent the weekend in Wallaceburg visiting with Mr. & Mrs. Clare Rock and family, Carol Anhe Desjardine, Angela Mary Morrissey and Jane McCann have accepted summer erriplOyment at Grand Bend, Mrs. Oscar Miller. A donation was received from Mr. & Mrs. Bud Desjardine for serving the lunch at their reception. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Frank Mclsaac and Douglas spent the weekend in Detroit and attended the graduation from Harper Woods High School of their daughter, Denise,. She has been accepted at St. John's hospital, Detroit to train as an X-ray technician. Mr. & Mrs. Ross Love accompanied by Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Love of Exeter vacationed with relatives in Winnipeg, Moosejaw, Mossbank, Saskatoon and also visited Banff, Dinosaur Valley at Drumheller and Manitoulin Island. It was a most enjoyable two week vacation. Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Rader, Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Rader, Mr. & Mrs. Elgin Rader, Fred Weiberg and Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Devine attended the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. Garnet Weiberg at Berkley Square, Kitchener, Saturday evening, Sharon Rader spent the weekend at Zion with Mr. & Mrs. Fred Miller and family. Services at Zion Lutheran Church and Peace Lutheran Church, Exeter, were, conducted by Rev. Louis Dorn, Missionary. to the Philippines, as liturgist, and Rev. Francis Koessel of Wilson, Texas, delivering the sermon. Members of the Miller family gathered at the community centre for supper followed by Samuel Miller dies at S.H.H. Samuel Miller, 76, passed away at South Huron hospital, Exeter, Sunday, June 14. He was the husband of the late Viola Bell. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Rosaleen) Schenk, Dashwood, Mrs. Milan (Mildred) Nash, Mrs. Robert (Alice) Fawn, both of Toronto, Mrs. William (Ruby) Bacon, West Hill; two sons, Sgt. Thomas Miller, Trenton, Delmar, RR 2, Dashwood; two sisters, Mrs. Reinhold Miller, Dashwood, Almeda, Clinton; one brother, Oscar, Stephen Township; 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild. The body is resting at the T. Harry Hoffman Funeral Home until Thursday noon then at Zion Lutheran church where Rev. E.E. Steinman "officiated. ,Interment was in Zion Lutheran cemetery.
