The 1969 audit for the Huron County Board of Education completed by the firm of A. M. Harper, chartered accountant, Goderich, will cost $6,775. The board learned from Roy B. Dunlop, superintendent of Speaks to youth about drug use Everett Mcllwain, chairman of the Huron County Board of Health, expressed surprise that members of Huron County Council did not have more questions for Dr. G. P. A. Evans, Huron County Medical Officer of Health, when he appeared Friday morning at the regular session of council to comment on the annual report "The Health of the County of Huron 1969." However, Reeve James Hayter, Stephen Township, invited Dr. Evans to speak to two groups of Grade 8 students from Wingham and Zurich, concerning the hazards of smoking and the misuse of drugs. Dr. Evans welcomed the opportunity and told the youngsters that smoking was a "highly undesirable practise". "The best way to stop is never to start," stated Dr. Evans. "People who smoke run fantastically high risks of lung cancer and other, lung ailments." The doctor also traced some of the reasons why young people business affairs, the 1968 audit under the former school boards in the county, cost more than $8,000 in total perhaps closer to $9,000. The auditor's statement will be released to the public in the near future. New policy approved Monday evening at the regular board meeting states that no teacher or academic administrator shall continue his or her employment with the board after the end of the school year in which he or she reaches his or her 65th birthday, except by special annual resolution of the board in which case the teacher shall be placed on a one-year probationary contract. turn to drugs and he urged the students who were present to think very carefully before experimenting with anything that could be addictive. William Einpey, chief public health inspector in the county, told council that the Goderich Township landfill site established jointly by Goderich Township, Clinton and the town of Goderich, was "working extremely well" and was "a model project at the present time in the county". Empey predicted that by the beginning of 1971, all municipalities in Huron County will have to comply with new regulations governing waste disposal. This becomes effective during the 1970-71 school year. Mr. Bill Batten Editor. Exeter Times-Advocate Exeter, Ontario Dear Bill: This letter is to let you know the Committee's appreciation for your co-operation during our recent Western Ontario Campout held in Exeter. The newspapers supplied by your paper were given to each unit as it came through the gate. Thank you so much for this gift. Also the co-operation of the R. A.P. members was overwhelming. We hope you will extend our appreciation to them. The students and teachers at the Exeter Public School were most helpful. The students were well mannered and courteous in every respect. We noticed they also had a litter pick-upon Friday afternoon and cleaned the school yard of all papers. We had done the same to the arena property on Friday morning. Thank you to the citizens and business people of Exeter. We hope to visit your friendly village again. Yours truly, Stan Burr Co-Chairman P.S.
