Mrs. Dundas, Walton, was
guest speaker at the Citizenship
and Education meeting of the
Staffa Women's Institute held in
the township hall, Wednesday
evening. She gave an interesting
account by word and picture of
her recent visit to Expo 70 and
other points of interest in the
east.
Mrs. Russell Worden presided
for the program, asking the
members to think back to their
school days to how Victoria Day
was celebrated when they were
pupils.
There were 14 members and
two visitors present and
interesting answers were given for
the roll call which was, name the
quality of a good citizen.
A most interesting motto on
education was prepared by Mrs.
Ross McPhail and given by Mrs.
Frank Hamilton,
Miss Vera Hambley led a
pageant on Canada's part in the
commonwealth arranging the
countries around the globe. Mrs.
Carter Kerslake spoke on our

inspiring message on Understand
Others at the WMC meeting of
Exeter Pentecostal Church held
in the home of Mrs. P. Bodaly.
Fourteen ladies answered roll
call with a Bible verse containing
the word, 'Queen'.
The president, Mrs. K.
McLaren opened the meeting
with devotions assisted by Mrs.
Kendrick and Mrs. Rhude.
Mrs. Susan Cann and Mrs.
Jennie Kipfer sang a duet, 'Home
Sweet Home, and Mrs. E.
Desjardine gave a short talk on
Queen Elizabeth and the Royal
Family. Mrs. N. Kleinfeldt read a
poem. Songs from the 23rd
Psalm, and a prayers composed
by Queen Elizabeth I in 1864 was
read.
A short session of prayer was
followed by refreshments served
by the hostess and Mrs. Eldon
Miller and Mrs. G. Thompson.
Their daughter Margaret received
her B. Sc degree in Nursing. She
has begun her work as public
health nurse in the
Norfolk-Haldimand Unit and is
making her home in Caledonia.
Saturday friends and relatives
held a social evening in Margaret's
honor at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Mawdsley, Dorchester.

The funeral of Mrs. Mary
Beatrice (Farewell) McLeod who
passed away May 10, in the
Sherbrooke Hospital following a
short illness was held at the
Lennoxville United Church,
following family prayers at her
home in Cookshire, Quebec. The
service was conducted by Rev. A.
B. Lovelace, assisted by Rev. H.
Ball with interment in Maluem
Cemetery.
Mrs. McLeod was born at
Waterville, Quebec, eldest
daughter of the late James
Farewell and his wife Mary Bissell
Farewell. She was educated in
Lennoxville Academy and
Stanstead College. In 1919 she
married Norman McLeod in
Lennoxville Church.
She is survived by her son,
Norman McLeod, Ottawa; her
daughter, Mrs. Meriam Belway,
Sudbury; a sister, Miss Enid
Farewell, Verdun; four

Lucan Church News
ANGLICAN
At the recent meeting of the
Board of Management of a the
Holy Trinity Anglican Church, it
was decided to proceed with
plans for the sidewalks and
eavestroughs. It is hoped that the
Coffee House will be opened June
21.
Next Sunday the Sunday
School will attend the 11 a.m.
service of Holy Communion
when the awards for eighty
percent attendance will be
presented.
Following the service the
Annual Church picnic will be held
at the Lions Park. All are asked to
wear their picnic clothes to
church, and join in the fun.
UNITED
Rev. W. C. Tupling was in
charge of the service last Sunday
morning. The lessons were read
by Pat Ryan and Bill Cochrane.
Next Sunday the Sacrament of
Holy Baptism will be celebrated,
as part of the annual Flower
Sunday Service. The Sunday
School will co-operate and a
youth choir will sing.
June 14 will be Lucan United
Church Anniversary Sunday, and
the guest speaker will be Rev. L.
G. Marshall of Ivan.
Combined Sunday services
will commence in the United
Church June 28 and in Holy
Trinity Church, July 19.
ST. PATRICK'S SCHOOL
St. Patrick's Girls' Softball
team played against St. Peter's
team, Monday, winning with a
score of 7-4 ensuring them a place
in the playoffs.
Children of the school are still
working hard under the
leadership of Mrs. Fred
Grimminck and their teachers,
for their Penny Sale June 11.
UCW UNIT ENTERTAINS
Unit 6, UCW of Colborne
Street United Church, London,
held a Dessert Tea at their regular
meeting and entertained a group
of residents from the McCormick
Home, among whom were four
former Lucanites.
Mrs. Ada Walker and Mrs.
Wilbert Stanley both formerly of
the Lucan district are members of
Unit 6. Mrs. Walker took the
Worship Service and told an
interesting story.

about trip to Expo

joined the Hurondale Women's
Institute in a bus trip to
Brantford.
Mr. & Mrs. Harold Fahner
attended graduation ceremonies
at the University of Guelph,
Friday. Their daughter Sheila
received her B.H. Sc degree.
Mrs. Emmery Fahrner is a
patient at South Huron Hospital.
Mrs. King and her son Barrie,
Welland, were weekend guests of
Mr. & Mrs. Walter Fydenchuk.
Albert Gaiser spent the
weekend in Detroit with his
cousin, Mrs. Irene Sitter.
Brian Finkbeiner is one of the
members of the Outers Club,
South Huron High School, which
is spending this week in the Sault
Ste Marie area.
Wilma Verkerk graduated
from Calvin College, Grand
Rapids, last week. Her mother,
Mrs. Cornelis Verkerk, was in
Grand Rapids for the ceremony.

Former minister's wife
passes away in Quebec
grandchildren, Grant and Nancy
McLeod, Ottawa, Michael
Mosher, Sudbury, and Wendy
Landrie, Calgary.
Rev. and Mrs. McLeod served
the United Church congregations
of Lavoy and Lamont, Alberta
for a number of years before
returning to their home town
Lennoxville, Quebec where they
served for eleven years. • The last five years of their
ministry were spent in Kippen,
Ontario where Rev. McLeod
passed away in 1957.
