Interesting
show
The annual Mid-Western Quarter Horse Show will be
held an Saturday, June 13 at the Lucan Community
Centre grounds.
The past two years, the popular show was held at
Exeter Community Park but due to a mix-up in bookings
it was necessary to shift to the Lucan grounds.
The Quarter Horse Show is sponsored by the Exeter
Saddle Club with president Brian Smillie heading up an
enthusiastic and active executive,
Last year's show drew over 275 entries putting it
into the "A" class category for the third consecutive year.
This year's show will go in two sections with
registered quarter horses at halter starting in the morning
at 8:30 with performance classes taking up the
afternoon's activities.
The judge for the full day's show will be T. R.
Beesley of North Carolina while Don Nye of Hamilton
will be the arena director. Fred Darling will handle the
announcing chores while Noel Yeti is in charge of entries.
The Ontario Quarter Horse Show Association has
one of the largest following of youth activity classes in
Canada and this Association that sanctions all shows of
this kind insist on various events restricted to youngsters.
For exciting action from the spectators view the
afternoon portion of the program, will include, barrel
racing, reining, cutting, trail class, etc.
As of a year ago, 1969, there were 10,5 86 registered
quarter horses in Canada, the second highest in the
Dominion.
The Quarter Horse had its beginning as a race horse.
In the 350 years since its origin, he has retained his ability
to beat horses of any other breed from a standing start up
to 440 yards, or a quarter of a mile, thus establishing the
name.
Popularity of the Quarter Horse and his rapidly
increasing numbers in this and other countries is readily
apparent at hundreds of halter shows, and performance
events, sponsored by Quarter Horse owners.
Plan to attend this outstanding show.
Also, the Exeter Saddle Club is sponsoring .a "Pinto
and Appalossa" point award show on June 27th at the
Exeter Community Park.
This is a new venture for the Club, and it-will be the
first Pinto and Appalossa show to be held in this district.
Line classes will start at 8 a.m. and performance
classes in the afternoon.
