CREDITON
Crediton WI met at the hall
May 20 with grandmothers and
Crediton UCW as guests.
Mrs. Bruce Shapton presided
and opened the meeting with the
Ode. The Collect was repeated
and Mrs. Shapton extended a
welcome to all present and read a
poem entitled "A Grandmother".
Roll Call "Invite a
grandmother and answer roll call
by introducing your guest was
responded to by twenty-seven
members.
Mrs. John Morrissey was
chairlady for the program and
introduced Mrs. Jack Doerr, guest
speaker. Her topic was "My
Experience with clay."
There were around thirty-five
articles displayed and Mrs. Doerr
explained how each was made.
Some methods used were pinch,
coil slab mold and wheel.
Famous potters were
discussed and the different kinds
of pottery made in the different
parts of the world.
Mrs. Emmery Fahner played a
piano instrumental and Mrs. J.
Morriseey reported on the
Officers' Conference at Guelph.
Crediton W.I. will put on the
birthday party at the Blue Water
Rest Home in November.
A moment silence was
observed in memory of Janet
Guenther.
The Institute Carol was sung
and the hostesses were Mrs. J.
Morrissey, Mrs. W. Mack and Mrs.
G. Morlock.
Prizes for the grandmothers
with the youngest grandchild was
Mrs. Russell Finkbeiner; most
grandchildren, Mrs. Lawrence
Hill; oldest grandmother, Mrs.

ZION UNITED CHURCH
Last week Bell Industries of
Seaforth replaced rusted flues in
the furnace of Zion United
Church. When the work was
finished, it was discovered that a
sooty film covered the furniture
of the building. A work force was
organized Saturday morning, and
the auditorium and Sunday
School rooms were scrubbed in
preparation for the anniversary
services Sunday.
Dr. E. Hallman of Kitchener
was guest speaker for the
anniversary occasion. His
morning theme was Service. In
the evening he used the United
Church slogan Live Love as the
subject of his message. Mrs.
Hallman accompanied her

The Huron County Historical
Society met at the Benmiller
United Church Monday evening
With the president, Harold Turner
in the chair. He welcomed the
large crowd and stated that it was
encouraging to see a full house.
Mrs. Otto Popp, Clinton, gave the
financial. statement which
showed a balance of $478.63.
Mrs. Leroy Poth of Bayfield
stated that there were now 106
members.
Judge Glenn Hays of Goderich
presented slate of officers for the
coming year which was accepted.
J. W, MacLaren of Benrniller
told the Benmiller story and he
was thanked by Mrs. Tait Clark. A
display of Benmiller blankets
were commented on by Mrs.
Harold Turner, some being over
75 years old. Mr. McLaren
showed colorful pictures of the
Benmiller early days. These will
be placed in the Archives room
with the tape comments.
George Ellis of Goderich
thanked the Benmiller UCW for
their hospitality.

The Messengers held their
meeting with 23 members
present.
Pamela Rodd opened the
meeting with quiet music and the
President, Karen Insley, gave the
Call to Worship.
Lori Webb read the Scripture
and Cynthia Copeland, Calvin
Rodd and Margaret Parkinson
read poems for Mother's Day.
A trio was sung by Pamela
Rodd, Karen Insley and Lori
Webb after which Mrs. Lloyd
Cowdrey read them a story.
Mrs. Glenn Copeland
presented the study book and
Cheryl Brine and Terri Brintnell
took up the offering.
The children practised some
songs and the meeting was closed
with the Messenger prayer.

The United Church Women
held their meeting Tuesday
evening with 20 members
present.
Mrs. Ted Insley opened the
meeting with quiet music and
Mrs. Don Brine gave the Call to
Worship and a reading on
Mothers.
Mrs. Ken Langford and Mrs.
Gerald Brintnell conducted
devotions.
A solo was sung by Mrs. Lloyd
Cowdrey followed by readings by
Mrs. Nelson Baker and Mrs. Elmer
Stevens and a story by Mrs. Don
Brine.

followed by group discussion.

Friends gather to visit
with Thames Road folk
husband to Crediton.
The organists, Mrs. Lawrence
Amos and Miss Elva Finkbeiner,
provided music on the organ and
piano. The choir sang two
numbers at the morning service
and in the evening the Huronia
Men's Choir provided special
music.
Following the service the local
choir served lunch, under the
direction of Mrs. Lloyd Hey to
the guest singers.
PERSONALS
Mrs. Irvine Finkbeiner is a
patient at St. Joseph's Hospital,
London.
Irving Stahls has been
confined to the house for the past
ten days, suffering from a painful
scald over the lower part of his
body, which resulted from an
attempt to do some disinfecting
with Creolin.
The Crediton Pee Wee ball
team is being coached by Lorne
Preszcator, Bob Dinney and Peter
Martin. Two weeks ago they
staged a walkathon to Grand
Bend. The team and their leaders
are grateful to those who
sponsored the hikers. More than
$150.00 was realized for the
team.
Mrs. Carl Radford received
word of the death of her mother.
Last Tuesday a daughter was
born to Mr. & Mrs. Jerry
Van deworp, Kitchener, a second
grandchild for Mrs. Alvin
Finkbeiner.
Pat Simpson of London spent
the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Bob
Reid.
Saturday evening Mrs. Joe
Bullock's birthday was celebrated
in a family gathering at the home
of Mr. & Mrs. Ross Taylor,
Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Edward
Darby, Will owdale, were present
for the occasion.
Mr. & • Mrs. John Bishop,
Dorchester, were guests of Mr. &
Mrs. Roy Ratz, Sunday.
Mr. & Mrs. G. W. (Curly)
Graham, London, called on
relatives in the area Saturday, and
visited Mr. & Mrs. Joe Finkbeiner
at Huronview.

Institute annual meeting in
Hensall last Thursday, Mrs.
