EXETER 235.2940 Greys open with win, at Huron Park tonight Pogo 7 The Exeter Greys got off on the right foot in he Huron Ladies softball league by outscoring the Mitchell girls 19-10 at the Exeter diamond, Tuesday night. The Greys see regular league action for the second time tonight, Thursday when they travel to Huron Park. Two home runs, one of the grand slam variety by catcher Anne Jorgensen paced the Greys to their opening season win. Jorgensen's homer with the bases loaded culminated an Exeter rally that produced eight runs in the bottom of the second inning. Other Exeter hits in the second inning were produced by Marlene Parsons, Pat Down, Glenda Fisher, Lynne Farquhar and Patti Robinson. The Greys scored twice in the opening inning with singles by Farquhar, Robinson and Broderick being responsible. Anne Jorgensen's second homer of the night with Joan Campbell on base in the third frame upped the Exeter run total to an even dozen. Pam Vanderwiel and Pat gown singled in fifth inning to give the Exeter club another marker and they finished their scoring with a six run outburst in the sixth. Five consecutive walks were mainly responsible for the closing Exeter run production. Mitchell scored six times in the first inning and twice in the second off Exeter starter Marlene Parsons. Pat Down took over the pitching duties in the third and was able to retire the side in order three times and allowed only two runs, both coming in the top of the fifth. LOSE EXHIBITION The Greys dropped a 6-0 decision to last year's league champions the Brucefield Bombers in an exhibition game played Thursday of last week. Anne Jorgensen and Pam Vanderwiel each collected two singles to lead the Greys hitting attack while Jayne Broderick had a one base hit to her credit. FRED BOWDEN CENTRALIA Ray Shoebottom was admitted to Victoria Hospital, Londoh, Thursday following an accident at his garage. He was working on a piece of machinery when a splinter of steel flew into his eye. Surgery was performed to remove the splinter but the extent of the injury to the sight of the eye is not yet known. RESIDENT PASSES Mrs. Michael Kelly a resident of the village for a number of years passed away in St. Joseph's Hospital, Friday at the age of 72. She is survived by her husband, and sons, Myles of Manitowadge,. James of London, Wilmer of Seaforth; daughters Eileen Zurich, Switzerland, and Mrs. Keith (Margaret) Penfond, Sarnia; brother William Connon, St. Thomas; sister, Mrs. Albert (Janet) Baker, Seaforth. The late Mrs. Kelly rested at the Tasker Memorial Chapel in Blyth until Monday, then to St., Michael's Roman Catholic' Church, Blyth, for requiem high mass. Interment was in St. Michael's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Morris Township. PERSONALS Murray Abbott returned home Saturday after holidaying for two weeks. He spent one week at the home of his son, Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Abbott and family in Niagara Falls and a week with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Maguire and sons in Scotland. Mr. & Mrs. Stephen Molnar, Jimmie and Nancy of Agincourt were weekend visitors with Mr. & Mrs. S. Molnar. Mrs. Lorne Hicks spent the weekend at the home of Mrs. Fred Penwarden in Sarnia. Mr. & Mrs. George Snell and family were Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Charles Gingrich and Mr. & Mrs. Reg. Rintoul and family in Kitchener. Family moves to Parkhill SHIPKA Mr. & Mrs. Tom Fowler and family moved Monday to the home they purchased in Parkhill. Funeral services were held May 21, for Ormand Lloyd Bone of London, age 20, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Reg Bone (the former Lucille Lochner of Shipka). Ormand had a kidney transplant last August which was not successful. Burial was at Woodland Cemetery, London. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Russell held a barbecue party Saturday evening in honor of their son Tom's 21st birthday. Bonnie Baker of Stratford spent a few days last week at the home of her grandpartents, Mr. & Mrs. Ken Baker, when she took part in a high school assignment on child care for Sandra and Gary. She returned home Sunday with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ken Baker Jr. Mrs. Hugh Morenz attended the W.I. District Annual in Hensall, Thursday. Mr. & Mrs. John Dietrich spent the weekend at Windsor with their aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. Ted Dietrich. Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Harold Finkbeiner and family were Mr. & Mrs. Harold Kerslake of Elimville and Mr. & Mrs. Allen Pfaff of Crediton. Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Becking of Matheson visited a few days with Mr. & Mrs. H. Prance. Mr. & Mrs. Don Clarke were at Niagara Falls over the weekend. Mrs. Wm. Gill and family accompanied by Mr. & Mrs. H. Prance visited Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Prance of Winchelsea recently. Mr. & Mrs. Leo Ducharme announce the birth of twins, a son and daughter. Mr. & Mrs. Harold Bell of Wyoming visited Mr. & Mrs.. Harold Prance. Maurice Jamieson has purchased Clarence Hawkins farm. ' Mrs. Betty Gill and Mrs. Minerva Prance visited Mrs. Gordon Gotelaer and sons of Ridgetown recently. Mrs. Audrey Moore and Mr. John Prance of Exeter, accompanied Mr. & Mrs. Harold Prance to the Don Messer show at Clinton, last week. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Gotelaer Jr., Ridgetown announce the birth of a son at Chatham General Hospital, last Thursday. By MRS. HAROLD DAVIS The ACW met at the home of Mrs. Andrew Knox, St. Marys Thursday evening. Mrs. Bill Waghorn opened the meeting and the scripture was read by Mrs. Miller McCurdy. The convener, Mrs. Burns Blackler, introduced the guest, Mrs. Baynes of St. Marys, who showed colored slides taken in Europe, mostly of Belgium and Germany and also some of St. Marys, Ontario. Mrs. Ken Blackler thanked Mrs. Bayne and presented her with a gift. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Miller McCurdy and Mr. & Mrs. Harold Davis were Sunday evening dinner guests with Mrs. George Davis of Exeter. Mrs. Wm. J. Blackler attended the weekend workshop at Huron College, London this weekend. SH athletes to WOSSA South Huron District High School will be well represented at the annual Western Ontario Secondary School Association track and field meet to be held at J. W. Little Memorial Stadium at the University of Western Ontario, Saturday. The local school will place one entry in each of the relay events while Peter Kleinstiver, Ron Janke, Dave Cyr, Barry Baynham, Brad Gregus and Steve Stark will compete in individual classes. In girls' competitions at Sarnia last Saturday, Carol Gascho of South Huron finished fifth in the senior girls' 440-yard dash while Pat Regier competing injunior girls was fifth in the 100-yard dash and sixth in the long jump.
