Greys open with win,
at Huron Park tonight
Pogo 7
The Exeter Greys got off on
the right foot in he Huron Ladies
softball league by outscoring the
Mitchell girls 19-10 at the Exeter
diamond, Tuesday night.
The Greys see regular league
action for the second time
tonight, Thursday when they
travel to Huron Park.
Two home runs, one of the
grand slam variety by catcher
Anne Jorgensen paced the Greys
to their opening season win.
Jorgensen's homer with the
bases loaded culminated an
Exeter rally that produced eight
runs in the bottom of the second
inning.
Other Exeter hits in the
second inning were produced by
Marlene Parsons, Pat Down,
Glenda Fisher, Lynne Farquhar
and Patti Robinson.
The Greys scored twice in the
opening inning with singles by
Farquhar, Robinson and
Broderick being responsible.
Anne Jorgensen's second
homer of the night with Joan
Campbell on base in the third
frame upped the Exeter run total
to an even dozen.
Pam Vanderwiel and Pat
gown singled in fifth inning to
give the Exeter club another
marker and they finished their
scoring with a six run outburst in
the sixth.
Five consecutive walks were
mainly responsible for the closing
Exeter run production.
Mitchell scored six times in the
first inning and twice in the
second off Exeter starter Marlene
Parsons. Pat Down took over the
pitching duties in the third and
was able to retire the side in order
three times and allowed only two
runs, both coming in the top of
the fifth.
LOSE EXHIBITION
The Greys dropped a 6-0
decision to last year's league
champions the Brucefield
Bombers in an exhibition game
played Thursday of last week.
Anne Jorgensen and Pam
Vanderwiel each collected two
singles to lead the Greys hitting
attack while Jayne Broderick had
a one base hit to her credit.
