Council did not accept Road Superintendent Hugh Davis' resignation and authorized the Reeve to request Mr. Davis to reconsider. Grader-operator Jake Arenthals' pay was raised 25c per hour by the council, and the following building permits were approved: Tim Alce, Lot 23 N. Boundary, a house, and William Damen, Lot 16, Conc. 8, an implement-shed. The funeral for Marlene was conducted from the Murdy Funeral Home, Lucan, Wednesday, with Rev, W. 0, Tupling officiating. Pallbearers were Bob Langford, Stephen Hay, Allan Wright, John DeBlock, Jack Moran and Don Mitchell. Interment was in St. James Cemetery, Clandeboy.e, Marlene is survived by her parents, Gerry and Roy Zinn, Lucan, a sister Carol Anne, Port Moody, B.C.; a step sister, Mrs. Gordon (Fern) Wilson and a step brother Roy Zinn, Jr„ both of Lucan, and her grandfather, Paul Brisson, Vancouver, B.C. JoAnne. Marlene Wood, 18, daughter of Mrs. Roy Zinn, Lucan, was rushed to St. Joseph Hospital following a. car accident early Monday morning but died five minutes after arrival. Driver of the t.or, Hewain Jeffrey, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Jeffrey, HR 4 ,Denfield, received only minor cuts and bruises. He said he and Miss Wood, were homeward bound from London when the car collided with two horses wandering on Highway 4, a quarter mile south of Concession 6. One of the thoroughbred horses was thrown over the car's roof, caving in the passengers side where Miss Wood was sitting. The horses, described by their owner, Bruce Sharp, RR 5 London, as valuable two year olds were killed and had escaped from a jump on Concession 5 which was found open. Miss Wood had moved to Toronto last winter to work and was home for the holiday weekend. She and Jeffrey had both attended Medway High School. Plan party to graduate Lucan-Clandeboye Explorers held an expedition May 11, with 35 Explorers and 4 counsellors present. Worship Service was led by Jean Barker, Kathy Hearn and Mrs. Keith Kraul. After discussion, plans were made for the graduation party to be held June 1. Parents and grandparents of all Explorers are invited to attend. The film, Different was shown and was followed by a discussion. Two short plays were acted by Christine Stutt, Sheila Smith and Janice Kestle. Lucan ladies attend annual The 67th District Annual of North Middlesex Women's Institute was held May 12 at Poplar Hill, North Lobo Institute being the hostess branch. Mrs. H. Brophey of Parkhill, District President, was chairman for the meeting, Lucan Institute was represented by five members, Mrs. Frank Hardy Sr. and Mrs. Frances Saward being voting delegates. There were 118 members in attendance. T-A photo Social values CGIT topic Lucan-Clandeboye CGIT held their regular meeting May 12, with Mrs. R. B. Worthington and Mrs. Ed. Melanson leading the worship service. It was decided to attend the Special Sunday morning service, May 17 as a group in uniform. The study on Social Values and Moral Issues was continued, led by Mrs. Melanson. Mrs. Annie Fairless is now a patient in Parkwood Hospital. Mr. & Mrs. Bill Butler of Toronto spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. H. B. Langford. Mrs. Alex Young who recently underwent surgery in St. Joseph's Hospital is progressing satisfactorily. Mr. & Mrs. Sheridan Revington spent Monday in Detroit. Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott were Sunday guests of their son, Arthur Abbott and family. Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Fischer, Steven and David, Mr. & Mrs. Roderick Bennett, Mrs. Louella Snell, Mrs. Joseph Chillingsworth and Mrs. Otto Myer, all of London, and Mrs. Dorothy Steuer of North Tonawanda, visited Mrs. Katherine Fischer for the weekend. Mrs. Jack Garrett and her baby son are now home from St. Joseph's Hospital. Friday evening's electrical storm, accompanied by torrential rain and hail, did not cause as much damage as was at first feared. Most basements in the village were flooded, furnaces put out of commission, and rec-rooms damaged, • Mrs. David Egan is a patient in Victoria Hospital. Family injured in car accident • Mrs. Jean Davis, Debbie and Mrs. Cecilia Inson, formerly of Lucan, were injured in a car accident, May 11 and Mrs. C. Inson is still in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mrs. Davis returned home Saturday. Debbie was taken to hospital but released after treatment. Wedding party That's aVolkswagen? Dallas left May 12 to take the position of inspector at Willowdale, Toronto. Mr. Dallas has held many important positions while living here He served as president of the Lucan Lions Club for the year 1967. An ardent hockey fan, he is just completing his term as president of the new Ontario Intermediate '8' hockey champions, the Lucan-Ilderton Jets. His wife Gladys and children Will remain living in Lucan until the end of the current school Year. It is rumoured that one of our good Comrades aboard the good ship — Motor Vessel RHEA — when she sailed from Port Stanley to Sarnia to attend the recent naval reunion in that fair city over the holiday weekend, turned a little green around the gills and it wasn't from envy either. Mr. and Mrs. Don McLaughlan of Ottawa were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Mugford. Saturday, Mrs. Mugford held a wedding celebration for her guests. I11111,1 lllllll I lllll ll I llllllll llllllll * * * In spite of the terrific storm and 3 inches of Water in the Sea, Land and Air Lounge we had a pretty good turnout at the stag and draw for which we are grateful and thank those who attended or participated in anyway for their support. * * * The Lucan Legion and Lions Fireworks display held May 18 was fairly well attended — the weather was chilly and there being so many displays throughout the area, I expect we got our fair share of spectators, I was there and enjoyed it immensely, the best display by far, to date.
