Many highlights in Cubbing
Lady scouter receives award
Newly weds reside n London
Mrs. Harold Sissons received a
ten year service award in
Scouting, Tuesday evening, at the
annual father and son Scout and
'T
Cub banquet at Exeter United
Church.
Mrs. Sissons started in the
organization as a Guide
Lieutenant with the 1st Exeter
Girl Guide Company in
September, 1958,
A year later she switched to
Cubs and has been active in this
work ever since.
Jean Sissons was the first lady
Scouter in the Exeter district to
write and take wood-badge
training since the group was
formed in 1921,
Another highlight in her
scouting career was meeting the
Chief Scout of the
Commonwealth, Sir Charles
MacClean at a dinner in his honor
in London, Ontario, in 1967.
Both Mrs. Sissons and her
husband Harold, who has been
associated with Exeter Cubs since
1956, are dedicated workers in
the Scouting organization.
During the past years they
have guided about 150 boys from
this community through Cubs
and seen many of them continue
on in Scouts and Rangers, and
take their places in the
community as responsible
citizens.
The Sissons, who thoroughly
enjoy their work with the boys,
have had the added opportunity
of meeting many people from
Mrs. Geo. Jaques of Tavistock
is visiting with her sister-in-law,
Mrs. Allan Jaques.
Mrs. Wm, Haigh attended the
graduation of her son, Rick
Haveling, from Sir Sandford
Fleming Forestry College,
Peterborough. Friends from
Stratford, Preston, Peterborough
and Kitchener also attended.
ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENT
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fairbairn, wish to announce the forthcoming
marriage of their daughter, Mabel Ann to,Dr. Stephen B. Moore, son of
Dr. and Mrs. Stephen A. Moore, London, Ontario. The wedding will
• take place June 20,1970 at 4:30 o'clock in Exeter United Church.

ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McTavish of Exeter, announce the engagement of
their daughter, Nancy Jane, to James Wilton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allan
Wilton of Montreal, Quebec. The wedding will take place August 22,
1970 at Exeter United Church.
Aid for exceptional child
Michael's Senior School,
Stratford, recently to encourage
parents and teachers in Perth and
Huron to join this association.
Dr. Madeline Hardy, guest
speaker said, "We are discovering
more and more that many brain
damaged, perceptual
handicapped and neurological
impaired children are often
bright, and new methods are
being introduced to assist these
pupils to learn.
Dr. Hardy, associate professor
at Althouse College, London,
outlined all the categories of
learning disability
The Provincial Association of
C.E.C. hope to establish a local
chapter for Perth and Huron
Counties. Any parent or teacher
who is interested is invited to
contact Edward F. Rooney,
consultant, Box 718, Seaforth.
Robinson Memorial United
Church, London, decorated with
lighted candles and baskets of
yellow and white snapdragons
and mums, was the setting for the
wedding of Helen Anne
Johannesen and Gerald Franklin
Finkbeiner.
The parents of the couple are
Mr. and Mrs. John K. Johannesen,
Huron Street, London and Mr.
and Mrs. H. E. Finkbeiner, RR 4
Penfield,
Rev. Garth C. Nelson was the
officiating minister and Edward
Hysen played the wedding music.
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore a white polyester
satin dress, styled in princess lines
with a cowl neck. Her headdress
of flowers held her shoulder
length veil, She carried a cascade
bouquet of yellow roses and
carnations with ivy.
Bridal attendant Rosemary
Norris, London, chose a
full-length orange taffeta gown
trimmed with gold. Her bouquet
was of orange sweetheart roses,
carnations and ivy.
The best man was Jim
DeBlock, RR 2 Denfield, and the
guests were ushered by Neil
Falconer, London and Barry
Furlonger, Little Current.
After a reception at the
Ivanhoe Restaurant, the bride
changed to an aqua wool crepe
suit with black accessories for
travelling to Niagara Falls, where
the couple honeymooned.
The newly weds reside at

bride is employed with the
London Life Insurance Company
and the groom is on the teaching
staff at Nairn School.

Mr. & Mrs. Sissons have
resigned from the Exeter Cub
pack but will continue their
leadership in Centralia.

Edward Hulme of Brandon,
Manitoba are visiting with Mr. &
Mrs, Charles " MacNaughton,
Huron Street, and with Jack
Fuleher, Edward Street.
Dr. & Mrs. M. Gans are
holidaying in Israel.
Dr. & Mrs. W.G. Balsdon
visited in the Ridge town area over
the holiday weekend.
