might be interested in helping for
two hours each afternoon for part
of the summer. Any interested
young people should contact the
secretary treasurer, Mrs. Archie
Couper, and at the next meeting
it would be decided if it was
feasible to conduct such a
program.
The members of the
committee made an inspection of
the arena to assess repairs and
renovations which were
necessary. Windows are in
constant need of replacement.
Nearly every window in the front
of the arena has been broken
since the ice was let out.
The chairman expressed
thanks to all those who turned up

rally attended
Attending the Zone C-1 Rally
at Goderich were members of the
Hensall Legion Auxiliary, Laura
Stan, Mona Campbell, Iva Reid,
Mary Taylor, Cathy Bell, Vera
Sma le, Mrs. Ralph Fitpatrick.
One hundred and twenty one
auxiliary members were present.
The Zone Rally will be held at
Blyth in 1971.
It's peculiar how a dollar can
look so big to you when it goes
for church, and so small when it
goes for groceries.

Hensall WI held their
Historical Research meeting in
the Legion Hall, Wednesday.
President Mrs. James McAllister
presided and welcomed the
grandmothers who were guests
for the evening.
Members answered the roll call
with 'A form of pioneer
entertainment' and reports were
given by Mrs. Grace Peck on
Huronview Auxiliary who
announced a bazaar and tea will
be held at Huronview, June 3.
Mrs. Robert Simpson spoke on
the Mental and Retarded
Association. The June meeting
will be a dinner at Hensall Hotel.
Mrs. Sherritt chaired the
program and Mrs. Wm. Fuss sang
a selection of old time favorites
accompanied by Miss Greta
Lammie. A piano duet by Mrs. T.
Sherritt and Mrs. Grace Harpole
was enjoyed and Mrs. R. Elgie
read a poem. Mrs. J. Sweitzer, of
Exeter, showed slides of her trip
to Alaska and gave an interesting
narration.
Grandmothers who won prizes
were Mrs. Monteith, Mrs. R.
Simpson, Mrs. Fred Beer and Mrs,
Gordon Schwalm. Courtesy
remarks were given by Mrs.
Simpson.
Program conveners were Mrs.
R. Elgie, Mrs. T. Sherritt and the
hostesses were Mrs. J. Corbett,
and Mrs. Peck.
KIPPEN EAST WI
Kippen Tootie-Fruities 4-H
Girls Club and mothers were
special guests at the Home
Economics meeting of Kippen
East Womens Institute May 14th
in the Legion Hall, Hensall.
Mrs. Grant MacLean convener
of Home Economics had charge
of the program which opened
with a sing-song. Mrs. Al
Hoggarth gave the motto, 'in this
modern electric era all a woman
has to do to run her home is to
keep plugging.'
Mrs. MacLean gave a
humorous reading and Jo-Anne
Stoll and Darlene McKay
demonstrated the making of a
pineapple dessert, Donna
Whitehouse commented on fruit
juices and a side salad which were
hi-lights of the course, 'Making
the Most of Fruit'.
Mrs. McKay gave a
demonstration on Top of
the-Range Cookware giving
suggestions on the choice, use and
care of pots and pans. Mrs. M.
Connolly conducted a contest.
Mrs. Robert Bell, the
president, presided for the
business when plans were
finalized for the District Annual,
and a bus trip to the Bavarian
Festival in Frankenmuth in June.

Unit 1 of UCW Hensall United
Church met Thursday evening
with Mrs. David Kyle presiding.
She opened the meeting with a
poem and prayer.
The general meeting will be
May 25 with Unit 1 in charge.
Mrs. Tiffin of Wing ham will be
the guest speaker.
An invitation was accepted to
Brucefield UCW in June.
Mrs. Lorne Hay introduced
Donna Forrest, Linda Hay and
Janet Ecker who led a lively
discussion on such . topics as
religion, education and discipline.
Mrs. John Goddard and her
assistants served a tasty lunch.

Society and $10.00 to Retarded
Children Mental Health
Association and the Bunny
Bundle.

Members of St. Pauls Anglican
Church School weekday
programme, accompanied by the
Rector Rev. G. Anderson, Mrs.
Thos. Lavender, Mrs. Archie
Couper and Mrs. Graham Hooper,
visited the residents of the
Queensway Nursing Home.
The children whose theme for
this month is 'Thinking of Other
People' were divided into groups
with an adult leader and each
group spent a few minutes in
different rooms with the
residents who were delighted to
chat with the young child:an.
The young people viewed the
crafts which had been created by
the patients during the winter.
Those taking part in the visit were
Paul McClinchey, Andrew
Couper, Tracy Turner, Lisa
Hooper, Christine Ingram,
Margaret Couper, Jo Hooper,
Barbara Ingram, Jaquiline
McClinchey, Tammy Turner and
Theresa Ingram.
Moderator talks
at Spring rally
The Spring Rally Huron
Presbyterial was held in Seaforth
May 13, with Mrs. Jack Pollock of
Goderich presiding, and Mrs. Ray
Dyke of Goderich as secretary.
Mrs. A. G. Meal of Sarnia was
the guest speaker. She is the
moderator of the London
Hamilton Synodical. Mrs. R. A.
Orr of Hensall thanked the
speaker.
Mrs. Gordon Schwalm of
Hensall gave the Synodical report
of the children's work and Mrs.
Haines of Auburn, the adult
report.
to help at the clean-up night at
the park. The ball diamond is
being made ready for play.
Friends shower
popular bride
Mrs. John Holland (nee
Brenda Noakes), a recent bride,
was honored at a miscellaneous
shower held in the Legion Hall
Saturday evening with relatives,
neighbours, friends, and members
of Hensall Legion Ladies
Auxiliary attending.
The hall was decorated in pink
and white and a mock wedding
provided entertainment for the
evening.
The presentation address to
Brenda was read by Monica
Peebles of London. Linda
Sangster, Monica Peebles and
Bonnie Sangster assisted in
unwrapping the gifts.
In charge of the arrangements
were Mrs. Vic Stan, president of
Hensall Legion Ladies Auxiliary
assisted by Marion Sangster,
Marion Peebles, Jean Amess, of
London and several members of
the Auxiliary.
Mr. & Mrs. Holland were
married in Seaforth, May 11, by
Rev. J. C. Button of Northside
United Church.

Womens Missionary Society
Sr. group met at Carmel
Presbyterian Church with
president Mrs. R. A. Orr opening
the meeting by reading the hymn,
`Christ is the Lord'
Study and dovotional was
given by Mrs. Harry Snell and
Mrs. Grace MeEwen and those
participating with the program
were Mrs, Pearl Love, Mrs. Harold
Bell, and Mrs. Clarence Volland.
Sylvia Bell, daughter of Mrs.
Harold Bell, played a piano solo.
Mrs. Orr gave the synodical
report, which she attended as a
delegate.
Preparations were laid for the
80th anniversary of the WMS and
the 40th anniversary of the
Arnold Circle WMS for June 8
with the guest speaker being Mrs,
John B. Fox of London, Ontario.
Guests are invited from Huron
Presbyterial, Exeter and
Cromarty.
Several volunteered to help
with the craft work in September
at Queensway Nursing home.
Mrs. Gordon Schwalm was
appointed as the first
vice-president which was left
vacant due to the ill health of Mrs.
George Waly.
A thank you letter was read
for the knitted shirts that several
members and Home Helpers
knitted for the under privileged.

HENSALL ACW
The regular meeting of the
ACW of St. Paul's church was
held Monday evening at the home
of Mrs. G. A. Anderson in Exeter
with the president, Mrs. Scrabuik
presiding.
Mrs. Scrabuik, Mrs. Forrest,
Mrs. Reid and Mrs. Taylor were in
charge of the devotions.
Mrs. Anderson outlined the
upcoming bus trip with the
Exeter ACW and also informed
Members that articles of clothing
for the sale should be brought in
not later than the September
meeting.
Plans were made for attending
the Deanery meeting at Wingliam
in June.
The president read exerpts
from the Bulletin dealing with the
ACW annual meeting held in
London.
Roll call was answered by
verses from the Bible having
names of minerals and precious
stones in them.
Rev. G. A. Anderson closed
the meeting and refreshments
were served.
At a meeting of the Hensall
Recreation Committee May 13,
the program for the summer was
discussed and it was decided to
sponsor the swimming
programme again this year with
Jane Smith as leader.
Registration forms will be
available sometime in June.
The possibility of a recreation
programme for the afternoon was
also brought up and it was
decided to see if there were any
Enjoy fireworks
on Victoria day
Over 1,000 people attended
the display of fireworks staged by
the Hensall Fire Department at
the Community Park, Monday
evening.
The $500.00 exhibition was
conducted by the firemen in the
hopes of preventing fire hazards
and accidents with children
lighting fire crackers.
Chairman for the event was
Gerald Flynn.
Reeve Oliver Jaques spoke
briefly when draws were made for
the winners of three prizes. Bryan
(Doc) Kyle won a deluxe
transistor record player; Art
Gaiser, Exeter, was the winner of
a transistor clock radio, and Jack
Tinney, RR 1, Exeter won an
electric can opener.
Drawing the tickets were the
Reeve, Councillor Harold Knight
and Fire Chief, Dave Sangster.
