Mrs, Harold Hendrick was hospitalized in Exeter Hospital with nasty facial burns due to a household accident. Susan Whittier of London was a visitor with her grandmother, Mrs. Hilda Wein for the weekend. Mr. & Mrs. Ross Love spent Sunday at Sarnia with Mr, & Mrs. Clare Love and family. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Gaiser and daughters visited Mrs. Wilbur Stewart in London, Sunday. Lyn is staying with her grandmother for a few days. Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Howe and family, London, Mr. & Mrs, Fred Miller and family, Zion, Nancy Scott, Crediton, were Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Rader and family. Mrs. Leonard Schenk and Mary Lou, Mr. & Mrs. Delmar Miller attended the funeral of their grandmother, Mrs, Rachel Bell at the Hopper-Hockey Funeral Home, Tuesday. Sam Miller is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, Marjorie Schenk, Doris Webb, and Marian Roestal presented a French skit at Wingham District High School, Wednesday. Mrs. Adolph Keller is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London. BAPTISM Julia Elizabeth Anne, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tiernan was baptized Sunday in Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. E. E. Steinman. Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Martene. By MRS. IRVIN RADER DASHWOOD Historical Research was the theme of the May meeting of Dashwood W.I, with Mrs. Leonard Schenk convener, Approximately 48 people sat down to a pot luck supper, May 5, with grandmothers as special guests. A group of girls from Zurich with Miss Meta Sureras director and Mrs. Harry Hess accompanist, sang several numbers and also featured dahcing by two of the group. Special prizes were awarded as follows: newest grandmother, Mrs, Frieda Keller; grandmother with most grandchildren, Mrs. A. 0. Todd; oldest grandmother, Mrs. Wes Wolfe; lucky saucer, Mrs. Leslie Hogg. Readings were given by Mrs. Stuart Wolfe and Mrs. Hugh Boyle. A lively debate was held, "Resolved that the old-fashioned store was as good as the modern supermarket." Mrs. Irvin Rader and Mrs. Glen Webb took the affirmative while Mrs. Leonard Schenk and Mrs. Stuart Wolfe upheld the negative. Judges Mrs. Letta Taylor and Mrs. John Rader gave their decision in favour of the supermarket. President, Mrs. Howard Maier, chairlady, dealt with the business. Roll call was amusing and perhaps useful "A pioneer remedy or an old-fashioned superstition". Conveners brought their planned programs for the year. The group will have the birthday party in June at the Blue Water Rest Home and plans were made to attend the District Annual in Hensall. Mrs. Wes Wolfe gave courtesy remarks. ATTEND BLOSSOM TEA Twelve ladies of the UCW of Calvary United Church attended the Blossom Tea at Centralia United Church last Wednesday when Patricia Bender and Susan Grigg played an accordion duet. MOTHER & DAUGHTER BANQUET The May meeting of Zion Lutheran Ladies' Aid was a Mother and Daughter Banquet with group II under Mrs. Ernest Koehler, convener, in charge. Following supper Sharon Rader proposed a toast to the mothers and Mrs. Ken Keller responded. Prizes were presented to the oldest mother, Mrs. Ed. Nadiger; youngest mother, Mrs. Ken Genttner; daughter with birthday closest to Mother's Day, Sharon Rader. A short program followed with solos by Mary Ann Hayter and Jim Keller; accordion solo by .Darlene Rader and piano solos by Sharon Rader and Margaret Merner. A short business meeting followed. The altar guild reported 15 visits and the new Guild is Mrs. Lorne Genttner and Mrs. Reinhold Miller. Bunco rounded out the evening with winners Mrs. Fred Messner and Judy Martene; low, Mrs. John Rader and Sheila Willert. UNITED CHURCH Family Day was observed' at the United Church, Sunday with a pot luck dinner following the morning service. During the service Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gaiser and their two daughters Kim and Lyn sang a number. A pot of spring flowers was presented by the Sunday School to Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Boyle for the couple celebrating the nearest anniversary. Mr. Art Haugh who had been treasurer of missions over 40 years was presented with a lamp at his home as he was unable to By MRS. M. H. ELSTON Mr. & Mrs. Charles Atkinson attended the baptismal service at Richard Memorial United Church London, Sunday when their grandson, James Robert Kemps was baptized. Following the service they were dinner guests of their son-in-law and daughter Mr. & Mrs. Joe Kemps. Mr. & Mrs. Ronald Dickey, Jamie and Chris of Exeter were dinner guests of Mrs. Inez Dickey and Joyce. Mrs. M. H. Elston visited with Mr. & Mrs. Alex McFalls Tuesday afternoon and was pleased to find him, much improved in health. Mr. & Mrs. Sam Skinner and family visited Sunday afternoon with Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Pym of Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. M. H. Elston attended the funeral, Saturday, of their cousin, the late Lizzy McKinnley, Wyoming. Mr. & Mrs. Allen Elston, David, Wendy and Gayle Mardlin of Granton were dinner guests of Mr. & Mrs. Les Gibson, Exeter, recently. Birdine McFalls, RN of Detroit visited with her parents Mr. & Mrs. Alec McFalls during the Mother's Day holiday. Mr. & Mrs. Wm. H. Essery of Exeter spent Tuesday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Mervin Elston: Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. John McAllister were Mr. & Mrs. Lorne McNaughton, Mr. & Mrs. Dale McAllister, Stephen and Scott of London, and Cecil Skinner, Exeter.
