The guest speaker at the graduation will be the Honourable William A Stewart, Ontario Minister of Agriculture and Food. The Deputy-Minister Everett Biggs will be present to present the diplomas. Three young men from this district will receive their diplomas after completing the two-year course at Ridgetown. They are Duncan Etherington, son of Mr. & Mrs. Dick Etherington, RR 1, Hensall; Larry Hern, son of Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Hern, RR 1, Granton and Henry Neevel, son of Mr. & Mrs. John Neevel, RR 1, Hensall. The latter will receive an Honours Diploma as well as the Southwestern Ontario Area Women's Institute trophy for Proficiency in Civics. PERSONALS Mrs. Joan McCormick attended the Registered Nursing Assistants Association of Ontario Annual meeting at the King Edward Hotel Toronto, May 7. Guest speaker was Hon. Wells, Provincial Minister of Health. Mr, & Mrs. Fred Switzer and Joan Switzer spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. & Mrs. Albert Armstrong of Lieury. Mr. & Mrs. S. W. Shier of Elkhorne, Sask., are visiting with Mr. & Mrs. Harry Burgin until they move into their residence in Kirkton. Building construction boys were assigned to Dashwood Industries at Centralia, Custom Trailers Limited, Exeter, and Boise Cascade Ltd., of Hensall. Auto mechanics students went to area garages, and farm implement dealers in FAeter, Shipka, Grand Bend, Zurich, Herisall and Seaforth. Teachers, Mr. Ken Ottewell, Mr. John Remkes and Mr. Walter Fydenchuck, visited the boys on the job, to discuss with them and their employers, the progress of this new approach to technical education. The boys enjoyed this working experience and the teachers involved, would like to express their appreciation to the local firms who showed an interest and co-operated in this program. * * Last week Mr, Jim Marshall's science class got some interesting demonstrations of radio waves in the school's electronics shop. Electronics teacher, Mr. Walter Fydenchuk demonstrated on the oscilloscope, (looks like a small T.V. set) pictures of radio waves, being transmitted by the school's amateur radio station. Contact (by means of the school's radio) was established with Milwaukee, and Chicago. The group was connected with the Chicago weather station to receive an up-to-the-minute, detailed weather report, for Chicago and area. ,* * * During last week, grade 7 and 8 students from area public and separate schools, toured the technical department at South Huron to become acquainted with the numerous activities that take place in the technical shops. It is hoped that this will help the boys to have a better idea of technical courses, offered at South Huron. During the three days about 190 students and 12 teachers from Stephen Central, J,A.D. McCurdy, Exeter, Usborne Central, Hensall and Zurich public schools and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Precious Blood, St. Boniface Separate and St. Mary's Separate, St. Joseph Schools completed the tour. * * * French students, accompanied by Mrs. Sarah Edwards went to Wingham for a French speaking competition. A guests with Mr. & Mrs. Wayne Greb and family. Mrs. Lorne Hicks visited over the weekend with her sister, Miss Wilda Pollock in Kitchener. Mr. & Mrs. Fred Bowden visited with Mrs. Barry Reid, Heather and Lori in London. * * * 14 In last week's column, it was reported that grade 12 and 13 students went to Toronto for dinner at a French Restaurant, and to see the French movie The dinner was enjoyed by most, but not so the show, Instead of a movie, the students viewed a fire, two doors away from the International Cinema Theatre. Harold Snell, London, guest speaker at the annual U.C.W. Blossom Tea in the Centralia United Church. The president, Mrs. Sam Skinner welcomed guests and presided for the program. The worship service was conducted by Mrs. Ken Greb. Mrs, 'Ken Hodgins played several organ selections and numbers contributed to the program by visiting churches were a reading from Lucan, a vocal duet, Exeter, and an accordion duet from Dashwood. `What Do You Really Want' was the subject chosen by Rev. Snell for his address. Would you want to live where there is no law, or disceipline? asked the speaker. There must be discipline, if it doesn't come from within it must be imposed. Prevention is better than cure, The speaker was introduced by Mrs. Earl Hoist and thanked by Mrs. Fred Bowden. Mrs. Alvin Essery was the organist for the occasion. BAPTISMAL SERVICE Three babies were baptized by Rev. Wilson during the service in the United Church: Tracy Lyn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Soldan; Steven William, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Greb; and Scott Alexander, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale McAllister. Hay township council agreed at last week's regular meeting to pay expenses for two firemen from the township's volunteer fire brigades to attend a Regional Fire School in Seaforth. The school is being held from June 1 to 5 and one fireman will attend from each of the Zurich and Dashwood brigades. Ratepayers that had their cattle sprayed for warble fly under the township program will be charged 22c per head per spray. Warble fly inspector Wilfred Mousseau reported about 5,600 cattle were treated in the • recently completed spraying. An application from Mrs. Mary Grace McEwen for severance in order to sell 10 acres from her farm property on Concession one was granted and a recommendation is being made to the Municipal Affairs Department ,to approve the move. A resolution was passed cancelling the Federation of Agriculture levy that has been in effect since 1947. The rate last year was one-fifth of one mill. One mile of road rebuilding on Concession 12 and 13 northerly from the Dashwood village limits was approved. The work will be done as part of the 1970 road expenditure bylaw and cost is expected to be $8,000. Rent for use of the township hall in Zurich was increased from five to ten dollars per day or evening. A new floor was recently installed in the hall, Two municipal drain contracts were let at the meeting. Hodgins and Hayter of Parkhill were awarded the closed drain work on the Smith-Rader and Hartman drains for $2,103 and $2,457.80, respectively. C.P. Dietrich, Dashwood will do the open portion of the Smith-Rader drain for $1,650 while L. H. Turnbull and Sons, Grand Bend submitted the successful open bid of $585 on the Hartman drain. A petition for repair and improvement of the Schwalm Municipal drain was accepted. Jim plans to take up farming taking over his father's farm, specializing in fruit growing. His picture was inadvertently omitted from the graduatOs who were listed in last Week's issue.
