at Queensway
Noble Grand Mrs. Elgin
Thon'psonpresided at the regular
meeting of Amber Rebekah
Lodge Wednesday evening and
was assisted by the Vice-Grand
Mrs. Jack Taylor.
Mrs. A. Orr gave the report
for finances and Mrs. • Ed.
Corbett gave the treasurer's
report.
Cards of thanks were received
and Mrs. E. Chipchase reported
for the visiting committee.
Mrs. A. Orr and Mrs. Pearl
Shaddick volunteered to visit the
Queensway Nursing Home
patients this month.
Plans were made to entertain
Parkhill and Monkton Rebekah
Lodges in June and final
arrangements were made for two
members to attend the Grand
Lodge Assembly at the Royal
York, Toronto.
An old-timer is a person who
remembers when charity was a
virtue, not an organization.
The local IOOF and Rebekah
Lodges will attend church
service in Carmel Presbyterian
Church, Sunday. Rev. Wilfred
Jarvis will be in charge of the
service.

Harold Parker and Patsy Parker.
Mrs. Sim Roobol is a patient
in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, having been admitted
Wednesday morning.

SURPRISE PARTY
Mr. and Mrs. Sim Roobol
held a surprise party at their
home Sunday in honor of the
10th wedding anniversaty of Mr.
Hensall United Church was
the setting of a quiet but pretty
wedding Saturday, May 9, when
Rev. Harold F. Currie united in
marriage Sharon Lavery,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milton
Lavery, Hensall and Charles K.
Doxtator, Hensall, son of Mrs.
Carrie Doxtator, Southwold,
Ontario.
For her wedding the bride
chose a sleeveless white lace
dress with matching coat of
white organza with
three-quarter length sleeves
accented with lace. She carried a
nosegay of yellow and white
daisies.
Matron of honor, Mrs. Jim
Gray, Zurich, wore a yellow
gown and carried nosegay of
white with yellow daisies.
Jim Gray of Zurich attended
the groom.
The reception was held at the
Hensall Hotel.
For travelling to points south
for their honeymoon the bride
wore a yellow ensemble with
white accessories and a corsage
of green orchids.
She is employed at the
Queensway Nursing Home,
Red Cross gets
auxiliary help
The Legion Ladies' Auxiliary
met Tuesday evening with
President Mrs. Vic Stan in the
chair.
It was announced that
$223.55 had been collected for
the Red Cross in a recent canvass
of the village by auxiliary
members.
The Zone Rally will be held
in Goderich May 13, and a
Penny Sale draw will take place
June 12.
The guessing prize was won
by Mrs. Gordon Munn; mystery
prize, Mrs. Howard Smale;
attendance, Mrs. J. Randall.

The first Cromarty Cub pack
'enjoyed an outing to Goderich
Saturday morning, visiting the
museum and later having a
picnic lunch at the park before
driving home. Rev. Jarvis, Mrs.
Jo Van Valkengoed, Mrs, Calvin
Christie, Mrs. Bill Hulley and
Mrs. Bob Laing were responsible
for transportation ,for the boys.

CLEAN UP PARK
Twenty-five to thirty
interested citizens of the village
staged a clean-up bee at the
Park, Tuesday evening,
sponsored by the Hensall
Recreational Committee.
Ann Mickle of London and
Charles Mickle, Hamilton spent
the weekend with their parents,
Mr. & Mrs. Laird Mickle.
Cpl. Larry Jones and •son
Larry Jr. of Monkton, New
Brunswick are holidaying with
Mr. & Mrs. James Sangster and
Bradley.
Hensall and the groom is
employed at Boise Cascade,
Hensall.
Winners receive
bowling trophies
Trophies were presented at
the annual ladies' bowling
banquet held at the Community
Centre, Dashwood, Wednesday
evening.
The "B" Champions in the
playoffs were Wanda
IvIcClinchey (captain), Iva Reid,
Mona Campbell,. Alice Koehler,
Donna Allan, Vera Smale, Mary
Bisback, Jean Gladding.
One hundred and seventy
attended.

The evening unit of the UCW
met Tuesday•evening.
The leader, Mrs. Agnes Smith
opened the meeting and
welcomed the members.
Mrs. Arthur Webb presided
for the worship and spoke on
missionaries. The roll call was
my mother's birthplace and a
donation to the bazaar.
Plans were made to serve a
dinner to Senior Citizens of
London and for the Mother and
Daughter banquet when Rev.
Glen Wright, Exeter will be the
speaker.
Lunch was served by Mrs. Art
Finkbeiner, Mrs. Elgin Hendrick
and Mrs. Verne Sharpe.
PERSONALS
Mrs. Alex Hamilton and Mrs.
Susie Devine attended the W.I.
Officers' Convention in Guelph,
recently.
Gordon Pollock is a patient in
St. Joseph's Hospital, London.
The regular meeting of Unit 4
was held in Fellowship Hall of
the United Church. Mrs. James
McAllister opened the meeting
with the devotional and spoke
on "Joy". The scripture was
read by Mrs. Leona Parke and
Mrs. Alma Hess sang the old
familiar song My Mother's
Prayer with Miss Greta Lammie
playing the accompaniment.
Mrs. Grace Peck gave the
topic and spoke on poverty at
home and abroad. Thirty-two
members answered the roll call
and it was reported that 123
visits to sick and shut-ins were
made in April.
Mrs. McAllister reminded the
members that old woollens,
nylons and used stamps are still
needed.
The Spring bale will be
packed May 12 and all good
clean clothing should be at the
church by this date. Guest
speaker at the General Meeting
of UCW will be Mrs. J. Tiffin of
Wingham, May 18.

Mrs. Stewart Blackwell
chaired the May meeting of Unit
H, UCW and opened with a
poem.
John Blackwell performed
two piano solos.
Mrs. Verne Alderdice read the
scripture and introduced a
chapter from the Mary Stewart
Collect called Self Seeking which
was taken by Mrs. Cecil Pepper.
Mrs. Blackwell gave an
interesting study on poverty and
the members viewed a film and
listened to a record concerning
this problem.
Hensall resident
dies in Exeter
Mrs. Nettie Lenaghan,
Hensall, passed away Tuesday
May 12, 1970 in South Huron
Hospital Exeter where she had
been a patient since early March.
She was 52. Her husband
Clarence predeceased her in
1966.
Surviving are four sons
Robert, Ottawa; Douglas, RR 2
Lambeth; Daniel, Toronto;
Donald at home; one daughter
Linda at home; three brothers,
Charles Nightingale, Hanover,
Clarence, Chesley, Harvey,
British Columbia; three sisters,
Mrs. Carl Moore, Hanover, Mrs.
Pearl Holstock, Owen Sound,
Mrs. John Martin, British
Columbia.
The funeral service will be
conducted from the Bonthron
Funeral Home, Hensall,
Thursday, at 2 p.m. Interment in
Hensall Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Stewart Blackwell and
Mrs. Cecil Pepper were hostesses.
Hensall Unitea Church
celebrated the annual Family
Service when the Church School
sessions were withdrawn so all
could attend the service. A
junior choir was in attendance.
The sacrament of infant
baptism was administered to the
following infants: Cheri Ann,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary
W. Alexander; Susan Marie,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
L. Flynn; Donald Brooke, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Donald R.
MacLaren; Kathleen Louise,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon M. McDonald, and
Steven Edward, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Edward W. Mock.

The Board of Directors of
Kippen East W.I. met at the
home of the president, Mrs.
Robert Bell, to arrange the
program for the coming year.
Plans were made for a bus
trip to the Bavarian Festival in
Frankenmuth in June, a picnic
in July, and a family night in
November.
