Student vocalist
wins scholarship
Maureen Smith was a
recipient of a scholarship for
further music training at the
recent London Kiwanis Music
Festival. The scholarship was
awarded by the Ontario
Registered Music Teachers'
Association. Maureen is studying
voice at Mount St. Joseph's
Music Academy under the
guidance of Sister Mary
Margaret.
CORRECTION
With reference to the report
of the 50th wedding anniversary
of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Reilly, we
must apologize for two errors.
Mr. Reilly retired from the
police force 1961, and Mrs.
Reilly was elected Reeve for one
year, 1967.

A very successful first aid
short course has been completed
at Biddulph Central Sehool,
Sixteen adults of the
surrounding community
participated in the course
conducted by Mrs. Margery
Morley, a teacher at the school.
Major and Mrs. Meekness of
the St. John's Ambulance
Society of London tested the
participants last Monday
evening.
During the evening Mrs.
Morley was presented with a
beautiful necklace and earring
set by her class.
Tuesday morning Mrs.
Margery Morley presented St.
John's First Aid Certificates to
nineteen pupils of Biddulph
Central School.
These pupils had taken the
St, John's First Aid Course
under her direction. This is the
second class Mrs. Morley has
conducted in the school for the
pupils.

cake decorating
Mrs. McComb visited
Biddulph Central School last
Friday to demonstrate the art of
cake-decorating. The children
were not only interested in the
lesson but enjoyed the cakes
afterwards,
Mrs, S. P. Perrior will be
leaving the school at the end of
June to take a university course.
Mr. LeRoy Bryan has been
appointed vice-principal of
Centennial Central School and
will commence his duties
September.
ST' PATRICK'S SCHOOL
Playing in the Middlesex
County School Sports, the St.
Patrick's Girls' Softball team
played Notre Dame team last
week winning with the score of
29-8.
May 12 they will meet a team
from St. Joseph's School.

sermon being entitled, Seeking
the Lost. The lessons were read
by Janice Walker and Debbie
Stanley.
Next Sunday will be Mother's
Day and Christian Family
Sunday and the sacrament of
Holy Baptism will be observed.
EVENING UNIT
The Evening Unit of the UCW
held their meeting in the C. E.
building, Tuesday with the
leader, Mrs. Frances Saward, in

active in church finish course
ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED
Mr. and Mrs. James Boughen of Stirling announce the engagement of
their only daughter, Wenda Gayle, to Ernest Christopher O'Neill,son
of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford O'Neill, Lucan. The bride-elect is a
Graduate of Hotel Dieu Hospital School of Nursing, Kingston, and
the groom-elect is a graduate of Queen's University, Kingston. The
wedding will take place May 30 in Stirling, Ontario.
The Lucan Ladies' Bowling
Banquet was held at the Lucan
Arena, April 29 with the ladies
of Saintsbury Church providing
the meal.
The new slate of officers for
the coming two years were as
follows: President, Mrs. Jim
Murphy; vice-president, Mrs. J.
B. McComb; secretary, Mrs. G.
C. McKenzie; treasurer, Mrs. Jim
Davis.
Trophies were presented to
the league winners, the Sputniks,
captained by Elsie George.
Winners of the "A" Trophy were
the Country Cousins, captained
by Willa Harding, and the
winners of the "B" Trophy were
the High Hopes captained by
Helen Hardy.
Grand Champs were the
Country Cousins.
Individual trophies were
presented to Beulah Storey for
high single, Judy Steeper for
high average and to Loretta
Dickson for high triple.
Eddie Allen formerly of
radio's Happy Gang entertained
for an hour and was enjoyed by
all.

Mary Elizabeth Jones, wife of
James Thomson, died suddenly
at her late residence, RR 1
Granton, Thursday, April 30,
1970 in her 74th year.
Besides her husband she is
survived by two sons, George
Thomson and William. Thomson
of RR 1 Granton and two
daughters, 4 Mrs. Russell
(Kathleen) Morley of Exeter and
Mrs. Charles (Florence)
McRoberts of RR 1 Granton.
She is also survived by four
brothers, Charles Jones of
Exeter, Bert Jones and Walter
Jones, RR 1 Granton, George
Jones, Tillsonburg and three
sisters, Mrs. Laura Love and Mrs.
Florence Bremner of London,
and Mrs. Alice Bryan, Granton;
sixteen grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
She was pre-deceased by two
brothers Ernest and Gordon
Jones.
The funeral service was
conducted from the C. Haskett
& Son Funeral Home by Rev.
Susan Seymour of Granton
United Church, Saturday, and
interment was in the Granton
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roy, Robert,
Clare and Jim McRoberts,
Gerald Morley and Keith
Thomson. Flower bearers were
Ralph Morley, Cliff, Donald and
Raymond Thomson.
Mrs. Thomson was a member
of Granton United Church, and
Unit 5 of the UCW of that
church. She had lived in
Blanshard Township most of her
life.

Grandfather
hurts back
Roy Neil of Vista, California,
formerly of Lucan and
Clandeboye, who had planned to
attend his granddaughter's
wedding in Detroit, May 8, fell
in his home and injured his back
very badly and is now
hospitalized and unable to
attend the wedding with his
wife. Mr. Neil is a brother of
Mrs. Hubert Jones of Exeter.
