The success of the annual South Huron Hospital Auxiliary rummage sale is due to the excellent co-operation of all the women who work towards preparing and executing these bi-annual events in aid of the local hospital. "Everyone knows her own department and each is run smoothly and capably," said Mrs. Charles Snell, who convened the spring sale last weekend with Mrs. Warren May. "A wonderful spirit of fellowship prevails when the ladies, many of whom aren't even members, come in to lend their assistance." A hard core of older members who have experience in handling past sales guide the newer people into the proper methods and channels. "It is inevitable that some of the older members drop out each year, but there always Symphony will perform Sunday The London Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Clifford Evens will conduct a concert of semi-classical music Sunday evening at South Huron District High School. The 65 piece orchestra will travel to Exeter by bus and automobile for the performance which will feature the radio and television peronality, Bill Brady, narrating Peter and the Wolf. Clifford Evens started his new career in London September, 1969. Born in Vancouver, Mr. Evens studied as a violinist under Joseph Gingold and as a conductor under Nicholas Slonimsky. He also studied under Sir John Barbirolli in Manchester, England. He was concert master and associate conductor of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra for 11 years before going to Toronto where he held a similar position with the Hart House Orchestra under Boyd Neel. Conductor Evens was also a violinist with the Toronto Symphony orchestra for eight years. The Beta Sigma Phi Sorority is sponsoring the concert of good music for the enjoyment of the local community. Suggests ban on no-return bottles Huron-Bruce Liberal MPP Murray Gaunt wants non-returnable bottles outlawed in Ontario. He introduced a bill in the Ontario Legislature recently that prohibits the manufacture, import or sale of any fluid beverage that is contained in a nonreturnable bottle. Mr. Gaunt said, "Earth Day, yesterday is a time to stop and consider what we on do about the mountains of garbage that are growing around us each day. One of the greatest contributors to this mounting pile of garbage is the no-deposit bottle. Americans are discarding more than 28 billion bottles arid jars each year." Gaunt blamed the throw-away bottle for ruining automobile tires, cutting swirtanera' feet and littering the countryside. 50 YEARS AGO Rev, D. Collins of Windsor and formerly rector of Trivitt. Rev. W. C. Parrott, who has been pastor of the United Church here for four and one half years, has accepted a call to Town's cost jumps some The reconstruction of Main St. north of the bridge will cost Exeter more than estimated at the time the tenders were opened last week. The exact cost of the project won't be known until it is decided how many sewer laterals will be included in the work. Council decided this week to have laterals installed at all lots which are potential building lots. Last week, Exeter's shire of the project was estimated at $27,000 but due to the sewer connections and a higher cost of other sewer work, the figure may go as high as $35,000. The town does not get a 90 percent subsidy on the sewer work as it does on the highway job itself. Mayor Jack Delbridge noted it would be false economy not to put sewer laterals in at all lots that could be used for building purposes. To install them at a future date would be considerably more costly and in some cases would require digging up part of the attest. Thedford United Church.
