SMITH/EXETER/235.1100 Attend open house Around 25 neighbors gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ferguson, Wednesday evening and surprised them on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. Hamilton Hodgins gave an interesting talk and Mrs. Alton Neil presented Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson with a gold cream and sugar set. The remainder of the evening was spent in a social time. IRVIN RADER DASH WOOD The annual meeting of Dash wood W.I. was held April 7, with the Directors Mrs. Martha Miller, Mrs. Stuart Wolfe, and Mrs. V. L. Becker in charge. The losing side in a membership contest captained by Mrs. Louella Tiernan treated the winning side, with Mrs. Eben Weigand as captain, to a pot luck supper. Following supper secret pals revealed their identity with a small gift. Vice-president Mrs. Gordon Bender presided for the meeting. Reports were heard from the secretary treasurer and all standing committees. The short course will be held April 16. Mrs. Glenn Webb reported on the director's meeting. The District Annual is in May at Hensall. The fall rally will be held at Centralia College. LUCINDA McISAAC Mrs. Lucinda Mclsaac, 94, the former Lucinda Kleinstiver, widow of Dashwood's former funeral director and telephone manager, Peter McIsaac, passed away at Queensway Nursing Home, Hensall, Friday, April 10. Surviving her are one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Carolyn Johnson, Windsor; 13 By MRS. THOMAS HERN Zion UCW met last Tuesday evening_ at the home of Mm. Lorne Hem. A worship service was presented by Mrs, Keith Hem and Mrs, D. M. Mills, with readings by Mrs. Ray Jaques and Mrs. Harry Hern, Mrs. Mills read the study book chapter. The President, Mrs. Wm. Morley presided for the business. Mrs. Mills and Mrs. Gordon Johnson will purchase some requirements for the church kitchen and a bale will be packed at the June meeting. A bountiful supply of articles for the layette were brought in which will go to the Saugeen Reserve at Southampton. WILLIAM ELGIN HERN William Elgin Hem, 501 Wellington Road, South, London passed away suddenly in Victoria Hospital, Wednesday, April 1, 1970 in his 62nd year. Mr. Hem is survived by his wife, the former Hazel G. Arnold, two sons, William R, of Burlington, James E. of Oakville; one daughter Mrs. Gordon (Jean Margaret) Sturdy of London; three brothers, Thomas of Woodham, Lloyd of Exeter and Arthur of London, and seven grandchildren. Mr. Hem was born and raised in Zion. The funeral was conducted from the Needham Memorial Chapel, London with Rev. C. J. Jardine of Hyatt Avenue United Church officiating. Burial was in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The pallbearers were Thomas G. Hem, Lloyd Hem, Arthur Hern, William Hem, James Hern and Gordon Sturdy Falls in bathtubs rate high in bathroom accidents. Harry Hoffman Funeral Home where prayers were said Sunday evening. Requiem Mass was held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel church Monday with interment in adjoining cemetery. Father Groome officiated. Pallbearers were Marvin McLean, Gary Spears, Steve Mclsaac, Jim Labudda, Dave Mclsaac, Lorne Kleinstiver, Dennis Corriveau, Doug Mclsaac. LADIES' AID The regular meeting of Zion Lutheran Ladies' Aid was held April 8 with Group I and Mrs. Jim Hayter, convener, in charge of devotions and lunch. Rev. E. E. Steinman took as his topic "The Liturgy of the Hymn Book". Mrs. Lorne Genttner, president, dealt with the business. The Altar Guild is Mrs. Ernest Koehler and Mrs. Cliff Salmon. A bus trip to Hamilton and Lutherwood is planned for this summer. PERSONALS A number of United Church members visited the Rescue Mission in London, Thursday, and provided the chapel service.
