The losers of the roll call contest treated the winners to a delicious pot luck dinner at Mrs. Charlie Eyre's last Thursday. Those with perfect attendance, were Mrs. Itoggarth, Mrs. R. Broadfoot, Mrs. Kinsman, Mrs. Connolly, Mrs. K. McKay, Mrs. S. Pepper, Mrs. Triebner and Mrs. Drummond. Mrs. Alderdice received the prize for having the nearest anniversary. After a few contests and games some of the ladies remained to play cards and the rest enjoyed a game of bowling. Legion women visit hospital The Legion Ladies Auxiliary meeting was held Tuesday evening in the Legion hall with Mrs. Vic Stan, president, presiding. Zone Commander, Mrs. Evelyn Carroll, Goderich, paid her official visit and spoke of the work of the Legion Auxiliary. There will be a Zone card party at the Legion Hall, Hensall later this month. Members accepted an invitation to a birthday party at Seaforth Legion Auxiliary. Legion Auxiliary members with Exeter Legion Auxiliary members entertained veterans at Westminster Hospital. Ninety-two dollars have been raised for the Crippled Childrens Fund at Zurich and $10.00 was donated to the Cancer Fund. Two members will attend the Legion Auxiliary convention at Niagara Falls in September. Mrs. Carroll presented Mrs. William Forrester with a twenty-year pin and Mrs. Gordon Munn presented the Zone Commander with a gift. The roll call for the next meeting will be answered with a tea towel. Doreen Baker speaks at UCW The April Thank-offering meeting of Unit II was held Monday when Mrs. James Drummond chaired the meeting and opened with a poem after which Pam Mickle favoured the members with two piano solos. Roll call was answered with 22 members present. Mrs. Dave Blackwell chose portions of scripture from Hebrews and Psalms to introduce the devotional given by. Mrs. Drummond from the Mary Stewart Collect called "The Chosen Heart." The next General Meeting is May 25. Unit II is responsible for nursery and flowers for May. The gra:st speaker for the evening, Doreen Baker, very capably outlined her two year stay in a village of Sungei Patani in Malaysia while working in a hospital there with a CARE medical team. She wore a beautiful green sari which took six yards of material. She showed the members picturesque slides of the hospital and its buildings both inside and out and also the countryside in Malaysia. Kippen East W.I honor birthday Kippen East Women's Institute entertained the residents of the Blue Water Rest Home at a birthday party. Entertainment consisted of a piano solo by Maureen Connolly, a humorous duet by Mrs. R. Bell and Mrs. A. Hoggarth dressed in appropriate attire, a quartette by Mrs. McKay, Mrs. Caldwell, Mrs. Kinsman, Mrs. Triebner and a guitar selection by Pat Connolly. Birthday gifts were presented to those having birthdays in April.. Carmel W.M.S. meet at church The Womens missionary Society of Carmel Presbyterian Church met Monday evening. President Mrs. R. A. Orr opened the meeting with a poem and a prayer. The devotional and study was given by Mrs. Malcolm Dougall and Mrs. Glen Bell. A piano solo of "How Great Thou Art" was played by Linda Bell, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Bell and a piano duet by Mrs. Ed Munn and Mrs. Malcolm Dougall was enjoyed. Twenty-eight visits were made to he sick and shut-ins by members. President Mrs. R. A. Orr and Mrs. Gordon Schwalm, Children's Secretary of London, Hamilton Synodical will attend the annual Synodical which will be held in Paris Ontario in April. FIGHT CANCER Study youth, adult problem Unit I of the Hensall UCW met Thursday in the church with Mrs. Robert Cook presiding. Her devotional was entitled "Creeds and the back ground of our Church." Mrs. Cecil Pepper gave several selections on the piano. Mrs. Dave Kyle gave the Study on "Youth and the Adult Conflict." The members received an invitation from Centralia UCW when Rev. Harold Snell will be the guest speaker. Unit I is responsible for the general meeting to be held on May 25. Mrs. Harvey Keys and her assistants served lunch. Friends shower recent bride Mrs. John Erb, Goderich, was hostess at the home of Mrs. Leonard Erb, Saturday evening for a miscellaneous shower for Mrs. Barry Southcott, nee Shirley Smale, a recent bride, at which aunts, cousins and friends were present. Presentation address was read by Mrs. John Erb who also presented the new bride with many gifts. Refreshments were served to the guests. Pauline Bell of "Holiday On Ice" phoned from Baton Rouge, Louisiana Sunday night before taking a plane for Mexico where she will skate for the next six weeks at Monterrey, Guadalajaira, San Luis Potosi, Torreart, Chiluahua and Nuwa Laredo. She will return to Hensall in June to spend a holiday with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Stewart Bell and Troyann. Mrs. Earl Campbell who has been a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter for the past two weeks returned to her home. Mrs. Ralph Holland and daughter Gwen returned to their home at Clinton after spending two weeks with the former's parents, Mr, & Mrs. James Sangster and Bradley, Rev. W. D. Jarvis conducted' service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday. The choir sang the anthem "Under The Cross" under the direction of Mrs. Malcolm Dougall at the organ. The Anniversary of the Church will be held May 3 when Rev. Wallace MacKinnon of Ingleside, Ontario will be the guest speaker. Mrs. Lottie Foster was able to return to her home Tuesday, after receiving treatment in South Huron Hospital, Exeter for two weeks. Mr. & Mrs. William Simpson, Birmingham, Mich. Mrs. Lou Simpson and Mrs. Elaine Merner of the Blue Water Rest Home were guests with Mrs. F. G. Bonthron this week. The W.M.S. and Arnold Circle of Carmel Presbyterian Church were guests of Kippen United Church Tuesday, April 14th. Mrs. Stewart Miner of Thames Road United Church was guest speaker. Miss Myrtle Peart is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Albert Alexander have returned from a two month vacation in St. Petersburg, Florida. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon McDonald and Kathy, Exeter, have taken up residence in the Fink apartments, Nelson Street, Henson. Staff Sgt. Gary Merritt spent the weekend with his wife's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Payne, after attending the funeral of his father, Mr. Mervin Merritt, St. Thomas. Charles Mickle, Hamilton, spent the weekend with his parents Mr. & Mrs. Laird Mickle. Ross Jinks, London, visited with his grandmother Mrs. Bertha Jinks last Thursday. Mr. & Mrs. Robert Mickle and Miss Ann Mickle of London, spent Sunday with their parents. Bay have returned home after spending a week with the former's sister and brother Mrs. Eric Kennedy and Ira Geiger, EUCHRE PARTY A successful euchre party was held in IOOF Hall Friday with 11 tables in play. It was sponsored by the C,P, & T. committee of the Rebekah Lodge. The winners were ladies: Mrs. Elizabeth Riley, Mrs, Robert Parsons; men: Howard Lemmon and Robert Parsons; lone hands, Torn Smith, Exeter. The draw for groceries was won by Mrs. Al Hogarth and Harold Penhale won a box of chocolates. THE U.S. DOLLAR was named after the thaler, the German currency in the late 1700's. Last March, Africa's Zambia announced that it would soon trade in its pounds, shillings and pence for something more poetic — a decimal currency in which one kwacha (dawn) will be worth 100 ngwee (brightnesses). 41'he annual meeting of the Hensall Women's Institute was held April 8 with the President Mrs. J, McAllister presiding. Mrs. Peck gave a report on the Huronview auxiliary meeting and Mrs. On and Mrs. J. Skea were appointed on the sick committee for the month of May. The 4-H achievement day will be held in Zurich May 23rd. The Historical Research meetings will be held in Seaforth, April 16 and in I3enmiller May 18. The District Annual will be held at the Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hensall May 21 with Kippen East Institute in charge of arrangements.
