LEUKEMIA PICTURE
IMPROVING
The most common form of
cancer in children is acute
lymphocytic leukemia. As
recently as 1964 the average
child with this disease lived only
11/2 years; today the average lives
more than three years and there
is an increasing number of
reports of long-term survivals
due to the use of drugs. The
Canadian Cancer Society is
sponsoring research on this and
other forms of cancer to save
more lives. You can be part of
this humanitarian effort by
contributing to the Society's
campaign for funds.
collect every event and item of
interest.
Driven down to the maple
bush by George Glendinning,
with a tractor and wagon, they
found lunch waiting for them by
the steaming evaporator, and
made short work of the eggs
boiled in sap, homemade rolls,
and maple syrup.
Then, assisted by four Exeter
High School students, their
teacher, Mrs. Glendinning, and
the principal, Sister Colleen
O'Neill, the children divided into
four groups and proceeded to
carry out instructions typed on
assignment cards.
This involved the complete
maple syrup operation, with
sketches, pictures, taped
interviews and notes.
When the muddy, tired group
rode back to school, singing
happily, they had enough
material to keep them busy for
days to come.
Motivated by first hand
experiences each pupil will
complete follow-up assignments,
involving research in every
subject. All concerned felt the
trip was an exciting, stimulating
experience and can't wait for
another trip later in the season.
