There is still about four feet of ice on Lake Temiskarning and plenty of snow for the happy Skidoo enthusiast. Although the weather may have been cold, the warmth of my Northern Comrades hospitality made the trip worthwhile. Our Dominion President Comrade Bob Kohaly, guest speaker at the District K Convention was an immediate hit, as he is wherever he goes. He made some very interesting announcements, one being that Ontario's membership in the Canadian Legion has at last exceeded 100,000 with total membership in Canada of over 300,000. He also advised that in the very near future most of the recommendations contained in the Wood's Report would be implemented, it is expected the W.V.A. will be increased by 15% which is good news and the disability pensioners will be receiving an interim increase of 10%. If you have ever heard Comrade Kohaly speak you would know that his speeches are always loaded. Although, it's nice to get home it sure is hard to get back into the groove, incidentally Mr. & Mrs. Frank Dickens of Ailsa Craig were Thursday guests of Mrs. Bob Coleman. Mrs. Viola Jenkin of Bradford spent part of her Easter vacation with Mr. & Mrs. Allan Scott and Mrs. Erwin Scott and on Monday accompanied by Mr, Alan Scott and Michael visited former Lucanites in the McCormick Home, Mr. & Mrs. Ray Fischer, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Fischer, Holly and Mark of London, Mr. & Mrs. William Fischer, Cathy, Cheryl and Chris of Komoka, and Rosemary and Faye Fischer of Dunnville, all spent a long Weekend with Mrs. Katherine Fischer. Mr. & Mrs. David Turner and Mavis of Varna and Murray Abbott of Centralia were Easter guests of Mr. & Mrs. Don Abbott. Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Hardy and family have moved into Former resident dies suddenly John Henry Cantelon, of West Lorne, died suddenly on Saturday, March 28, 1970, He is survived by his wife, the former Eleanore Hartleib; two sons, J. William of Vancouver and Dr. C. Bruce Cantelon, of West Lorne; one brother, Harold Cantelon. and two sisters, Miss Gladys Cantelon and Miss Harriet Cantelon, all of Toronto and five grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Cantelon had lived in Lucan for twenty-three years, before moving to West Lorne, November, 1969. Mr, Cantelon retired from the managership of the Bank of Montreal in Lucan in September, 1053 and for a few years acted as clerk and bailiff of the Third Divisional Court of the County of Middlesex, He retired owing to ill health, He had also been a Bank of Montreal Manager in Alliston, idgetown, West Lorne, Meaford, Toronto and Lucknow,. The funeral was conducted from the Padfield Funeral Home, West Lome, March 31, by Itev, George Lewis, Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, West Lorne, while in the Soo, my dad took me on a route march of about 5 miles every day, now it will take me a few days to get rested up. Our jovial Steward Carl advises that the Inn Mates went over so big, by popular demand they will be returning to the Sea, Land and Air Lounge on Saturday, April 4, 1970. Plan to attend early and avoid disappointment. In support of the Legion sponsored minor hockey in Lucan, there will be a dance at the Legion Hall on Saturday, April 11. Clare Stanley will be supplying the music. Those wishing advance tickets please contact Comrade Jim Freeman, hockey chairman. Total proceeds will be donated toward Minor Hockey in Lucan. We urge you to support the dance and thus support minor hockey in our town and at the same time enjoy yourself. I am still looking for information relating to the formation of Branch 540, history is slow to come in; however with the nice weather coming on and mother getting anxious to get to the spring cleaning, maybe she will come across something of interest that I will be able to use in the proposed Branch history. their new home on Butler Street, and last Wednesday held a family gathering to celebrate Mr. Hardy's and Cheryl's birthdays. Mrs. Will Haskett has returned home after a three-week visit with Mr. & Mrs. 0. C. Lillie of Birmingham, Michigan. Mrs. Ron Crozier and her daughter, Jane were in charge of the Cancer Society booth at the London Mall last Wednesday. Mrs. Lela Beadle of Stratford is spending a few days with her sister Mrs. Mary Hodgson who is on the sick list. Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Haskett, • daughter, Brenda and Mrs. Will Haskett were Sunday guests of Mr, & Mrs. Emerson Gill of Grand Bend. Mr. & Mrs. Aljoe Culbert had their daughter, Doris home from St. Mary's Hospital for Easter Sunday. During the afternoon some thirty friends and relatives called to visit Doris. A London relative has received work of the death of Richard McDonald of Edmonton. His wife the former Evelyn Abbott, a Lucan native, still has many relatives in Exeter, Lucan and London. Morley and Janice were hostesses for a bridal shower at their home Friday evening for relatives and friends in this community in honor of Kathleen Morley, Hazel Park, Michigan, bride-elect of May 9. Mr. & Mrs. Carl Gower and family, Zion and Mr. & Mrs. Jack Kirkham, Mitchell were Sunday visitors of Mr. & Mrs. Cleve Pullman. Mr. & Mrs. Alf Zemitis and family, Dashwood, Mr. & Mrs. T. Berzins, London and Mr. Harold Nissen, Strathroy were Easter guests of Mr. & Mrs. Arvid Beitans, in honor of the birthday of Olga Zemitis, Mary Johnson holidayed in St. Marys last week for a few days with her friend, Julie Bettridge. Audrey Anderson, Stratford spent the holiday weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Johnson. Mrs, Gerald O'Shaughnessy and Michael, Belleville also visited the Johnsons for a few days during the week. Mr. & Mrs. Allen Hodgins and Mark were Saturday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Allen Gee, London, where they had a 30th wedding anniversary surprise party for their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Walter Gee, London. The Huronia Male Choir of which Gordon Johnson is a member, under the direction of Mrs. Roland McCaffrey, presented the Crucifixion and Easter Cantata, Wednesday at Exeter United Church, They also sang choruses from the Crucifixion on singtime over CKNX-TV Sunday. Alex Dobson and Wayne, Weston visited Sunday with Percy Hodgins. Mrs. Alex Dobson, Weston, Mrs. Percy Hodgins, Mrs. Clare Bryan and Alice Irene left Rev. Gerald Reese of Lucan Pentecostal Church was guest speaker at the Good Friday evening service at the Lucan United Church. His message entitled, "Today thou shalt be with Me," was inspiring. Sixteen young people attended the Youth Sunrise Service at Parkhill, Easter Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. The North Middlesex High School Band provided the music. Regular morning service was in the charge of Rev. W. C. Tupling, his sermon being entitled, "The Land of the Living." The lessons were read by Lynn Melanson and Marlene Butler, Both Senior and Junior choirs sang anthems. TYROS AND SIGMA C Tyros for boys 10 years old By MRS. J. H. PATON Dale Robert Gibson, four year old son of Lloyd and Marjorie Gibson of Clandeboye, passed away suddenly in St. Joseph's Hospital, Friday, March 27, 1970. He was the brother of Mrs. Gerald (Lois) Darby, Guelph, Terry, Gerry and Danny of Kitchener, Larry of Clandeboye, Mrs. Brian (Bonnie) Morgan, Mrs. Bob (Patricia) Gibson, London and Mrs. Jean Houson, Sarnia. The funeral was conducted from the Murdy Funeral Home, Lucan, March 30 and burial was in St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye. The pall bearers were Terry and Jerry Morgan, Stephen Carter and Ronald Gibson, ST. JAMES CHURCH The Anglican Church Women met in the home of Mrs. Mary Carter Thursday. Mrs. K. O'Neil gave a reading and Rev. Carsori led the Bible Study, Easter Sunday the Rev. Carson preached on the Resurrection of Christ. His text was "The Lord is risen indeed'. He said these were words of conviction both for the disciples and for us. Mr. Carson pointed out that they were words of joyfulness; first because Jesus Christ died and rose for our justification; second, Jesus had to rise to make intercession for us with God; Jesus was fullfilling a promise to send his people a comforter,and fourthly, those who have died are assembled with Jesus Christ who has the keys of death and Hell. On Easter we should rise to the ressurection life. Next Sunday Evening Prayer will be read at 12:45 P.M. PERSONALS Mrs. Almer Hendrie entertained her daughter and husband, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Downing, Chatham, and Mrs. Mary Carter of Lucan. A euchre party was held at Neils School Thursday evening. The conveners were Mr. & Mrs. Fred Lewis and Mr. & Mrs. Wilbert Lewis. Winners were ladies high, Mrs. Earl Lewis; lone hands, Mrs. Wilfred Dixon; low, Mrs. Bill Dixon; gents high, Wilfred Dixon; lone hands, Bill Dixon; low score, Ross McNair. Next party will be April 10, with Mr. & Mrs. Andy Thompson, Mr. & Mrs. Tom Gilmour and Mr. & Mrs. Joe Cartier as conveners. Thursday evening on a tour of Washington, D.C. returning Sunday evening. Mr. & Mrs. Fred Mardlin, Louise and Lynn, Wesley were recent dinner guests with Mr. & Mrs. Hamilton Hodgins and Burton. Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Squire and Bill visited Sunday in Exeter with Mr. & Mrs. Edgar Squire. and 'Sigma C for boys 11-14 are held every Wednesday at '7 p.m. at the Lucan United Church, and a very worthwhile program is enjoyed each week. There are 12 boys in each age group. UCW EVENING UNIT Mrs. Alex Young and Mrs. Harvey Latta were in charge of the program for last Tuesday's evening unit meeting. They conducted a worship service and spoke on a chapter from the study book, entitled "Sense and Nonsense." Mrs. Ed. Melanson took the chair in the absence of Mrs. Frances Seward. After a discussion it was decided to join the Friendship Unit in promoting a Bake Sale, the date to be set by them. It was agreed to set up a fund to be used to Mrs. Omar Cunningham had as company .Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Cunningham, Ingersol and Mr. & Mrs. J. E. Cunningham, Glencoe. & Mrs. Mervin Carter had their son and his family Mr. & Mrs. Carlyle Carter, Jimmie, Steven and Wayne. Mr. & Mrs. Wilfred Cunningham entertained Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Harper, Joan, Jimmie and Donald of St. Pauls. Mrs. Dorothy Vendish Hooper, Toronto placed flowers in St. James Church in memory of her mother, Mrs. Pearl Cobleigh. Mrs. Jack Hewitt returned home from spending some time with her son near Toronto. ANGLICAN Maundy Thursday a special Holy Communion was celebrated in Holy Trinity Church and Good Friday the choir sang the sacred cantata `Olivet to Calvary'. The soloists were Mrs. Keith Dickson, Miss Maureen Smith, William Loosemore and Mrs. Kay Egan. Portions of the oratorio were read by Helen Shipway, Brian Ankers, Francis Elson, Rev. R. Carson and Peggy Elson. Mr. W. R. Loosemore directed the choir, Easter Sunday Holy Communion was celebrated at Sunrise and again at 11:00 a.m. The Sunday School children at 9:45 a.m. saw a film strip on the Easter Story. The Service of Holy Communion will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on April 5. The Nursery meets at 11:00 a.m. and the League of Loyalty meets during the 11:00 a.m. service. AYM The young people will meet April 6 in Carlisle Hall. They will show movies on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Sunday April 12 they will attend the 8:00 a.m. Holy Communion and breakfast together in the Parish Hall. They will also attend the HiC's meeting Sunday evening. CHANCEL GUILD The ladies of the Chancel Guild will attend Holy Communion Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Holy Trinity Church. The Diocesan Chancel Guild will meet April 15 in Huron College. COUPLES CLUB The Couples' Club will meet Wednesday evening. The speaker will be Mrs. Al Boggs the former Monie Murless. Mrs. Boggs will give an illustrated talk on her journeys in Italy.
