The Lucan-Ilderton Jets
Sunday night realized a two-year
dream by reaching the Ontario
Hockey Association
Intermediate "B" finals by
eliminating the Tillsonburg
Appolos in five games in a
best-of-seven semi-final series.
Organized in the fall of 1968,
the Jets were blocked in their
bid for a provincial
championship last year by the
Durham Huskies. This year the
Jets were able to get past the
pesky Huskies and had little
trouble in downing the
Tillsonburg crew.
With a three games to nothing
lead in the series with
Tillsonburg the Jets lost their
chances for a clean sweep at the
Huron Park arena Friday night
when they were defeated 5-4.
Sunday night back in
Tillsonburg, the Jets with solid
goal tending from Wayne
Parkinsr i and a steady checking
game by the entire club blanked
the Appolos 2-0 to wrap up the
series.

Bottom clubs
bounce back
The two bottom clubs in the
Ausable Valley Rec hockey
league came up with wins in
weekend action to come within
a couple of points of second
place in the league standings.
Brinsley downed Shipka 5-3
to up their season point total to
18 while Lieury edged Ailsa
Craig 8-7 good for 17 points.
Ailsa Craig continues to hold
down first place with 30 points
while Shipka is in second spot
with 20 points.
HAT TRICK LEADS
Gerald Nordemanns
contributed a hat trick to the
Lieury scoring cause in their 8.7
win over Ailsa Craig at the
Exeter arena, Monday night.
Next in line with a two goal
performance was Robert Bender
while single scores were added
by Sonny Slater and Gerald
Dixon.
A DOUBLE SCORER
Lloyd Mathers was the only
Brinsley player to score two
goals in their 5-3 win over
Shipka, Sunday.
Adding to the winners total
with single goals were Jack
Conlin, John Glavin and Jim
Thompson.
Scoring in single fashion for
Shipka were Rene Boogemans,
Bob Finkbeiner and Harvey
Vincent.
three-way passing efforts.
The first Jet counter came at
the halfway mark of the first
period and was started by Steve
Proctor, Proctor dug the puck
out of the corner and sent a pass
out in front to playing coach
Jack Nairn who tipped the puck
over to Ron Cauduro who let a
hard 25-foot shot go that caught
the top part of the Tillsonburg
cage.
Early in the second period,
the Jets produced the insurance
goal. On a face-off in the Appolo
end zone, Dave Webster won the
draw and flipped the puck over
to Dusty Aldis, who in turn sent
a pass across the goal mouth to
Barry Hearn, Hearn slid a
backhand shot along the ice that
found its way into the
Tillsonburg net.
At the Huron Park arena,
Friday night, the Jets failed in
their attempt to sweep the
semi-final series in straight
games.
In a desperate effort to stay
in contention, the Appolos
swept to the attack from the
opening face-off and scored the
only goal of the first period.
Playing coach Dan Mahony
who was named the most
valuable player in the Western
Counties grouping this winter
scored the first period Goal to
put the Appolos out in front
early.
The close battle for the top
positions in the Exeter Legion
mixed dart league continues
with only four points separating
the first four teams in the
standings.
The Hairpins continue to lead
the league with a total of 88
points while the Dart Sharks
hold down second spot with a
season total of 86 points.
l'he Sharpshooterd have taken
over third spot with 84 points
and the Dark Angels follow in
fourth place, one point farther
back.
Individual statistics show a
three-way tie for the lead in the
ladies section for most games
won. Ann Romaniuk, Marg
Wragg and Verdun Lindenfield
are deadlocked at 23 games
apiece.
Male curlers

Sunday night the awards of
the year for the Exeter men's
curling club were handed out.

with Dick Roelofson's group
placing fourth,

finished third.
In the league championship
bonspiel that concluded Monday
night, Paul Coates' rink edged
Jim Hewitt's.
Other members of the Coates
rink are Glenn Lamport, Jim
Kerslake and Doug McBride,
The Tillsonburg club came
out with lots of zip in the
second period and scored three
times to up their game lead to
4.0 before four minutes had
elapsed on the time clock.
Mahony scored twice to
complete a hat trick
performance and Bob Tansley
notched a single score.
Less than a minute after
Tansley's score, the Jets found
the scoring range for the first
time, Defenceman Rick
Bradford completed a three-way
passing play with Jacques
Cousineau and playing coach
Jack Nairn,
Early in the third, Ralph
Brazier scored an unassisted goal
for Tillsonburg to up the score
to 5-1,
At this point, the Jets started
to play the type of hockey they
are capable of, scoring three
times nut were unable to come
up with the equalizer as they fell
one goal short.
Dave Webster scored the first
at 8.10 with Nairn and Dusty
Aldis providing the assists. Just
past the fourteen minute mark,
Jamie Robb converted a pass
from Cousineau and twenty
seconds later the score was 5.4
as the result of Webster's second
successful shot of the night.
