The Rev. G. Burton Hodgson,
Associate Director of
Administration and Director of
the Promotion Department of
the Diocese of Michigan, died
Monday, March 9 in Detroit
Osteopathic Hospital following a
long illness. He was 63 years old,
Mr. Hodgson has been a
member of the Bishops' staff
since 1953 when he was
appointed Director of Christian
Education. Prior to taking the
Diocesan position, Mr. Hodgson
served as associate rector of
Christ Church, Dearborn and as
rector -of St. Pauls church, St.
Clair from 1950-53.
Born in Clandeboye, Ontario,
Canada, in October 1906, he was
a telegraph operator for the
Canadian National Railway
before the age of 19, when he
came to the United States and
took a similar job with the
Grand Trunk Western Railroad
in Pontaic, Michigan.
He became an accountant for
the Pontiac Motor Division of
General Motors Corporation in
1933 and later was general
auditor for this corporation.
During this period, he was active
as a layman in charge of the
Educational program for All
Saints Church, Pontiac, and also
served as vestryman.
He entered the armed services
in May, 1942 and was discharged
from the U.S. Army in 1946
with the rank of Captain.
Mr. Hodgson did his college
work at American University,
Washington D.C. and Lake
Forest,Illinois. He was
graduated from Seabury Western
Seminary, Evanston, Ill. in June,
1949. He was ordained Deacon
in 1949 and Priest in 1950.
During his ten years as
Director of Christian Education,
Mr. Hodgson supervised the
publishing of nationally used
Christian Education materials,
two teacher training courses,
four adult study courses, a
vacation school course, lay
readers' training course and
other educational items,
He was a trustee of the
Michigan Theological
Foundation and a member of
the Board of Directors of the
Diocesan School of Theology.
Mr. Hodgson is survived by
his wife Helen and two
daughters Susan and Jane; also
five sisters in various parts of
Canada and one brother Murray
of Lucan.
The funeral service at
Cathedral Church of St, Paul,
Detroit was officiated by Rt.
Rev. Richard S. Emrich.
Mrs. H. Brophey, District WI
President was guest speaker at
the Clandeboye WI meeting held
at the home of Mrs. Wilmer
Scott, Wednesday afternoon.
Her talk was on public relations.
Eighteen members and two
visitors answered roll call by
naming a current event.
Members were given tickets
to sell for their project,
"Luncheon is Served Canada
Limited," to be held at the
Lucan Arena, April 23.
Mrs. K. O'Neil and Mrs. A.
Lewis served refreshments. Mrs.
Worthington won the hostess
prize.
ST. JAMES CHURCH
Last week Mission '70 was
held at St. James church from
Sunday evening to Thursday
evening. Each night a film was
shown and a discussion
followed. Those who attended
realized •that problems do exist
and particularly among young
people.
At the Board of Management
meeting those present analyzed
the church and made suggestions
concerning what the church
should and could do.
The Cemetery committee
decided to re-invest some of its
funds at a higher rate of interest.
Next Sunday the organist and
choir of Holy Trinity Church,
Lucan will be at St. James
Church for the Palm Sunday
devotional service at 12:45 p.m.
The Lessons will be read by
various members of the
congregation.
The Anglican Church Women
will meet on Maundy Thursday,
March 26 in the home of Mrs.
Mary Carter. The congregation
are asked to attend the Sacred
Cantata at Holy Trinity Church
on Good Friday.

April bride-elect. Mrs. Gordon
Finkbeiner played a piano solo,
Mrs. Doug Galloway and Mrs.
Charles Browning sang and Mrs.
Nelson Lamport gave a reading.
Contests were arranged by Mrs.
Harold Fahner.
EXPLORERS
The Explorers of Zion United
Church received recognition for
the crib quilts they prepared and
donated to the Children's Aid
Society and the United Church
Mission Hospital in British
Columbia.
Miss Clare McGowan,
Goderich, came to a meeting of
the group to express her thanks;
Dr. Whiting of Winch Hospital
sent a letter of appreciation.

Cathy, Orangeville, were
weekend guests of Miss Nola
Faist.
Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Morlock
spent several days in Waterloo,
caring for their grandchildren
while Dr. & Mrs. Fred Morlock
were in Montreal.
Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Lamport
and Mr. & Mrs. Dennis Lamport
attended the funeral of Wray
Crittendon in Detroit Friday.
Ross Wein, Edmonton, spent
the weekend with his parents,
Mr. & Mrs. Emerson Wein. Ross
is with the school of Agricultural
Science, University of Alberta.
His work in research sometimes
takes him into Alaska and the
Yukon. He was on his way home
from a trip to Fredericton, N.B.
when he stopped to visit his
parents.

The first Cromarty Scout
Troop and Cub Pack held a
father and son banquet Tuesday
evening in Cromarty
Presbyterian church with an
attendance of 74.
A bountiful dinner was
enjoyed by all, Jack Butson
thanked the mothers for
providing the meal and Mrs.
Alex Miller replied.
Eldon Mien, chairman,
proposed the toast to the Queen
and Morris Ruston proposed a
toast to the fathers and Calvin
Christie replied.
District Commissioner, Lloyd
Cameron introduced the guest
speaker, Murray Stewart,
Assistant District Commissioner
of Mitchell, who explained the
different badges for the boys. He
was thanked by Russell Miller.
