MONTEITH EXETER LTD. 235-2121 "The best in service when you need it most!" Agricultural Information week scheduled for Clinton, The event will be staged at the Central Huron Secondary School auditorium on March 23, 24 and 25. Assisting the Soil and Crop directors with the program are representatives of the Huron Milk Committee, Huron Beef Improvement Association and the Hog Producers Association, And, as could be expected, information relating to the operation of those three commodities will be featured during the information event, Judging from reactions across Canada, the opening topic for Monday afternoon will get the conference off on a banner note. Proposals for tax reform as outlined in the federal government's white paper will be discussed by Don McArthur, head of the farm business management division, Centralia College of Agricultural Technology. Another matter now generating equal concern across the country will also be featured on the opening day's program. J.H. Nodwell, agricultural engineering extension specialist will be speaking on air pollution control in agriculture. Squeezed in between the two informative discussions will be a presentation to Bert Moggach, who was formerly agricultural engineer in Huron. LIVESTOCK DAY Tuesday's program will be turned over to the livestock producers in Huron and three separate programs will be gunning at one time, all starting at 1:00 p.m. There will be a program for the beef, dairy and swine producers. Lex Rutherford and Graeme Hedley, two beef cattle specialists, will be in attendance to discuss beef. The interesting topic of Graeme's program is "Retail Yield! What Is It?" The two speakers will have some ideas to present on the future of the beef industry, the demands being made by consumers and how farmers can meet those demands. Mastitis will constitute the main discussion for dairy producers, with Dr. T.J. Pridham, head of the new veterinary services laboratory at Centralia College of Agriculture, being one of the speakers. Many Huron farmers are not getting good gel index tests and attendance at the program could prove very profitable for them. Also speaking on the dairy program will be Harold Foster, Mastitis Fieldman, St. Marys. The swine program will cover a wide range of topics, dealing with backfat probing, selection and breeding, carcass grading, health and diseases. Rabies clinic for Perth With the hope that rabies infection can be held in check among dogs and cats, anti rabies vaccination clinics are being set up throughout the County of Perth to vaccinate pets. These clinics are free of charge and it is recommended that pet owners take advantage of this service sponsored by the Health of Animals Branch of the Canada Department of Agriculture, the Perth County Health District and the various municipal bodies in the County. Clinics will be held in Staffa and Fullarton, Monday, March 23 and Kirkton and Rannoch, Tuesday, April 7. Forty-four positive rabies cases have been confirmed in Perth County since May 1, 1969, and of these, 12 occurred in cattle, 1 in horses, 9 in foxes, 14 in skunks, 1 in raccoons, 2 in cats, 1 in groundhogs and 4 in pigs. Severaldiseases being , experienced by swine in the county will be dealt with in an address by Dr. P.G. Oliver, swine disease specialist, with the department. Another swine specialist, Garnet Norrish, will also be in attendance and the afternoon should prove to, be most informative for hog producers in the county. CROP DAY Wednesday's program will be turned over to the matter of crops, with discussion being held on most of the major ones in Huron. A discussion on "prop corn" will get the program underway at 1:00 p.m, The use of proprionic acid to treat wet corn has revolutionized storage for this important crop and this development will be of great interest to Huron growers. Insects and diseases which attack wheat, corn and beans will be discussed by Professor George Jones, crop science department, University of Guelph. All farmers in Huron are invited to attend the three afternoon programs and ladies will certainly be welcomed as well. Prayer Day at Saintsbury .
