Jets The Lucan-Ilderton Jets made good use of St. Patrick's Day and the Luck of the Irish to eliminate the Durham Huskies from further Ontario Hockey Association Intermediate "B" play by winning 8.1 at the Huron Park arena, Tuesday night, The Jets won the best-of-seven group final series four-games to-two with two of the four wins coming on Durham ice. Friday night, the Lucan-Ilderton club turned in one of their poorer efforts of the season as they suffered a 7.3 loss to the Huskies at Huron Park. Back in Durham Sunday afternoon, the Jets scored a 4-1 win to move a game up in the final and set the stage for the St. Patrick's night windup. In the first round of the OHA playoffs, the Jets will meet the Tillsonburg Appollos. Of local interest Steve Kyle, formerly of Hensall is a member of the Tillsonburg club. The first game of the best of seven semi-final will be played at the Huron Park arena, Friday night at 8:30. The second game goes in Tillsonburg Sunday night' at 7:15. TIDE TURNS SUNDAY The 4.13 mark of the second period of Sunday's game in Durham was probably the most important point of the series. At that time, Durham goalie Gord Becker hit Jet playing coach Jack Nairn over the head with his stock and was immediately ejected from the game and was suspended for Tuesday's game. Nairn was saved from serious injury by a football helmet he was wearing to protect a broken nose received from Becker's stick in an earlier game. After Becker left the game with the score 1-0 for the L-I club, the Huskies turned to a defensive style of play to protect back-up goalie Ross Clark. It took the Jets more than 25 minutes to break the protective shield thrown up by the Durham team. Bill Neil playing his first game in several weeks notched the only goal of the first period with Jacques'Cousineau providing the passing help. Only three minutes after the Becker-Nairn incident, Dale Rahn tied the score for the Huskies with a slap shot that hit the goal post and bounced in. At the halfway mark of the third period, Neil scored his second goal of the night which proved to be all the Jets needed to'move in front in the series. Jacques Cousineau started the, winning play by digging the, puck out of the corner to the' side of the Durham net and feeding it back to Jamie Robb who found Bill Neil in good scoring position. Veteran defenceman Don Urbshott fired the insurance marker from twenty feet out near the 16-minute mark with sensational saves, the Jets moved Nairn assisting on the play. right back down the ice and The final 'Jet score came at Steve Storey rapped the pick 18.47 with Dusty Aldis doing into the Durham net to score the firing after taking a drop what proved to be the game pass from Rick Bradford who winning goal, had managed to break into the At 10.32 Doug Galloway clear near the Durham blue line. scored his first of three goals for the night with a long high shot from the blue line that evaded goalie Clark. In quick succession, Dusty Aldis, Don Urbshott and Galloway, again had fired long shots that found the target and the ball game was over, Galloway scored his third goal of the game after only five seconds of the third period and Jim Bender completed the Jet scoring at 10.23, only seconds after Murray Stephens had scored the only Durham goal of the night, A DIFFERENT STORY The outcome . of Friday's game at Huron Park won by Durham 7-3 was decided in the first eight minutes of the first period. The Jets were unable to get the puck out of their own end and the Huskies wasted little time in rapping in three quick goals. Jim Aitken scored twice and Bob Hetherington once to put the Huskies ahead. Jim Nixon added another Durham goal before the first period was GB ladies hear about religions in Malaysia Walper and Mrs. Herb Pfile served tea. Bender was making his first start after sitting out a three game suspension. Early in the second, the Huskies swarmed to the attack and Parkinson was called on to make at least six stops on point blank shots. In addition Dale Rahn hit the goal pbst and Jim Aitkens bounced a shot off the cross bar. Only moments later, Parkinson smothered a hard shot and referee Frank Slota blew his whistle just before the puck fell over the goal line. Slota right on top of the play disallowed the goal.
