Hensall Womens Institute met
Wednesday evening in the
Legion Hall for their Agriculture
and Canadian Industries meeting
with president Mrs, Clarence
Reid presiding for the business.
Members answered the roll call
with "Name something grown
on the farm which is used in
industry"
Twenty five dollars was
donated to the Association for
the Mentally Retarded, and
$30.00 to the Hensall Branch,
468 of the Canadian Legion.
Mrs. T. J. Sherritt and Mrs.
Robt. Elgie were appointed sick
committee for April, and Mrs.
John Skea, Mrs. Pearl Koehler,
and Mrs. Elizabeth Riley as
nominating committee.
Mrs. R. Simpson spoke
briefly on the meeting she
attended of the Association of
the Mentally Retarded held in
Exeter recently.
Mrs, Wilbert Dilling chaired
the program which consisted of
solos by Mrs. Eric Luther,
accompanied on the piano by her
husband who also contributed a
piano selection.
Mrs. Robert Simpson gave an
interesting motto The Poetry
of Life" and a humorous reading
was given by Miss M. Ellis. Mrs.
Don Travers gave a short
commentary on the 4-H club
and introduced Alma Oud who
commented on the display of
needlepoint by the 4-H girls
club.
An auction sale with Mrs.
James McAllister as auctioneer,
assisted by Mrs. Dilling netted
$30.00.
Program conveners were Mrs.
W. Dilling and Mrs. Maude
Hedden; hostesses, Mrs. Gladys
Coleman and Mrs. Len Purdy.
Kippen ladies
hear of crafts
Kippen UCW worship service
was conducted by Mrs. David
Turner who using the incident of
the Samaritan woman at the
well, spoke of the continuing
source of the "Living Water of
Faith."
Mrs. Robert Elgie conducted
the business session, minutes,
roll call and various reports
being given.
Mrs. Keith Lovell told of the
craft sessions by four members
at the Hensall Nursing Home
and of the favourable reactions
by the patients.
At the April Thankoffering,
Mrs. Stewart Miner, president o1
Huron-Perth Presbyterial, will be
the speaker with guest units
from Brucefield, Bayfield,
Hensall Presbyterian and Zurich
churches.
Bale items will be turned in at
the May meeting. Stamps are
still to be saved by the ladies for
the Leprosy Mission.
Mrs. Edison McLean
presented a vivid and wide study
of the Indian Canadians
revealing many harsh and
startling details and statistics
which make Canadians realize
they dare feel little pride.
Sympathetic understanding is,
sorely needed for the proper)
acceptance and equality of the
Indian Canadians.
Mrs. Peter DeWyse conducted
two contests and Mrs. Nonnan
Dickert and Mrs. David Turner,
the hostesses, served

win bonspiel
A rink skipped by Bob Bell,
president of the Hensall Curling
Club, won the Hiram Walker
Trophy at the Thedford Curling
Club winning high over all with
three games plus seven. Members
on his team were Marlene Bell,
vice skip, John Anderson, 2nd,
refreshments. and Helen Anderson, lead.
United women
study Indians
Unit 1 of Hensall UCW met
Thursday with Mrs. Lorne Hay
presiding. She opened the
meeting with a poem and her
devotional was entitled 'If a man
die, shall he live again?'
Unit 1 is responsible for
nursery and flowers in April and
members were reminded of the
April Fools supper in the
church.
Mrs. Albert Shirraay
continued with the study on
"Indians in the far North and
gave interesting highlights of a
trip to Moosenee last fall which
she and her husband took.
Mrs. Jack Consitt conducted
a contest and Mrs, Gordon Munn
and assistants served lunch.
Have pot-luck
at Chislehurst
A pot luck dinner and
quilting preceded the meeting
of Chiselhurst UCW which
opened with the theme song and
prayer by President Mrs. Russell
Brock. The Easter worship was
given by Mrs. R. Boyce and
members answered the roll call
with a religios custom.
Eleven large quilts and two
crib quilts have been made by
the ladies since January.
A quartette consisting of Mrs.
Jack Brintnell, Mrs. Alvin Cole,
MrsR. Taylor and Mrs. T. Brintnell
sang. It was decided to buy
Easter lilies for the church and
$10.00 was donated to the
Bunny Bundle, C.F.P.L.,
London.
Mrs. Ed Dick was presented
with a Life Membership and pin
from the UCW and Mrs. Gerald
Glenn was also presented with a
Life Membership and pin
donated by Mrs. John M. Glenn
of Exeter. Mrs. Harold Parker,
Mrs. Taylor was in charge of the
presentations. Mrs. Harold
Currie gave the study 'man alive'
and Mrs. Taylor read a poem.

former minister's wife in
Hensall, spoke on the "Crash
Pad" pertaining to the drug
traffic.

must be made to outlaw this
crime against our fur-bearing
creatures.
There is no valid reason for
such unnecessary cruelty, and
absolutely no reason for our
governments to be so far behind
other countries which have
abolished leg-hold traps many
years ago.

Easter message
for Carmel WMS
The Easter Thank-Offering of
the Womens Missionary Society
was held Thursday in Carmel
Presbyterian Church. President
Mrs. R. A. Orr welcomed guests
from Cromarty, Exeter,
Seaforth, and the Home Helpers
and Arnold Circle.
Mrs. Percy Campbell presided
for the devotion.
Rev. W. Jarvis, guest speaker,
spoke on the Easter message of
Jesus Christ, Mrs. Eric Luther,
guest soloist, gave the story of
the hymn and sang 'The
Unveiled Christ', with her
husband at the piano.
Ushers were Mrs. R. Madge,
Mrs. H. Snell. A social afternoon
was enjoyed with tea with Mrs.
Hyde, Mrs. Orr and Mrs. C.
Volland as conveners.
Passion Sunday
at local church
Passion Sunday was observed
in St. Pauls Anglican Church
with Rev. G. A. Anderson
conducting the service. The
theme was "The Fact of Christ".
Flowers in the church were in
memory of the late William J.
Otterbein, placed by his son
George.
Flowers in the United Church
Sanctuary Sunday morning were
in loving memory of Mr. Tom
Sherritt, placed by his wife.
Minister's wife
returns for visit
Mrs. J. F. Knight of
Edmonton, Alberta is spending
some holidays in Kent Bridge,
Ont. visiting her brothers. Last
week she spent several days
visiting with Mr. & Mrs. Earl
Kinsman and family of
Chiselhurst, renewing many of
her old acquaintances in
Chiselhurst and Hensall, It's over
50 some years since her
husband, Mr. Knight was
minister of the Hensall and
Chiselhurst charges. It was the
Methodist Church at that time.
Kinette club
plan for sale
Mrs. Wm. Fuss was hostess
for the Kinette Club of Hensall
March 11 with Mrs. Jack
Drysdale presiding for
Vice-Presidents night. The
members decided to hold the
Annual Spring Rummage Sale
Friday May first. Shut in visiting
Sunday will be held Sunday,
March 22.
Gentleman has
80th birthday
Herb Kercher celebrated his
80th birthday, Monday, March
16. Helping him to enjoy the
occasion were Mr. & Mrs. Jim
Jordan, London, Mr. & Mrs.
Spencer Jeffery and family,
