Back on home ice at, the
Huron Park arena, Friday night
the Jets were victorious by a
score of 6-3 and were back in
winning form. •
This followed with a 4-1 win
right in Elmira Sunday
afternoon and they capped the
comefrorn-behind series win
with a decisive 9.2 win at Huron
Park, Tuesday night.
The L-I boys move into the
finals against their arch rivals,
the Durham Huskies in a
best-of-seven series, The first
game will be played in Durham,
Friday night with the second at
the Huron Park arena, Sunday
afternoon at two o'clock,
Playing coach Jack Nairn and
former coach Steve Storey led
the Jets scoring in the last three
games. Nairn scored ten goals
during the three wins and Storey
notched a hat trick in the
deciding contest.
The series continues in
Durham, Tuesday with a fourth
game back at Huron Park,
Friday, March 13.
START EARLY
In the deciding game at
Huron Park, Tuesday, the Jets
wasted little time in showing
their faithful fans they were out
to make amends for a poor
showing in their first two starts.
Former playing coach Steve
Storey took a pass from Doug
Galloway before one minute had
elapsed in the game and put the
puck behind Zenas Buehler in
the Elmira nets for his first of
three goals for the night.
About six minutes later, the
score was even when Laverne
Miller fired a successful Elmira
shot.
The Jets scored three times in
a space of less than four minutes
near the halfway mark of the
second period to put the game
Winter came early to the
Pinery this year, and on
December 19, the Park was
officially open to the public.
Heavy snowfalls made it possible
to open the ski hill and toboggan
hills without having to make
artificial snow. Snowmobile
trails were in excellent condition
with some alterations made to
last year's trails.
Separate, parking Jots were
'designated for snowmobile users,
with the trails from the ski hill
parking lots being discontinued.
This has eased the parking
problem at the ski. hill. The
Department has purchased a new
Ski-Doo for park patrol and
first-aid which replaces the
rental snowmobile previously
used.
Because of moderate
temperatures and a lack of frost
in the ground, the skating rink
was not suitable for public use,
until the New Year. Since the
opening, the ice has remained in
excellent condition and 1,583
persons used the rink during the
month of January.
Th'e toboggan hills have been
kept in good condition since
December 19, and 1,745 persons
have utilized these facilities. As
more persons are using the
facilities on weekends this year,
the number of skiers has
increased to 1,384 on the hill
not using the ski tow, and 2,024
using the tow.
Winter rates have undergone a
change this year, with a charge
of $1.00 per vehicle; $1.00 per
ski tow ticket,. and $2,50 per
night for camping. The charges
of 50c per person over 12 years
of age, and $1.00 for
Snowmobiles, brought into the
park on trailers or trucks, have
been discontinued.
Up to February 1, 1,598
snowmobiles have entered the
park on trailers and trucks, and
an additional 226 snowmobiles
have entered by their own
power. Snowmobiling is fast
becoming the most popular
winter sport at the Pinery.
The Pinery is one of the three
provincial parks in Ontario
which have opened for winter
camping. One comfort station
has been winterized, and
approximately 100 campsites in
Area I, Riverside Campgrounds,
are being plowed and
maintained.
Winter camping has aroused
much interest and each weekend
sees more campers utilizing the
facilities. From December 19. to

Kings.

three goal scoring splurge with
an unassisted effort at 6,46, and

February 1, 66 campsite permits

snowmobilers could purchase

and Steve Storey were
instrumental in setting up the
