Non all-stars show stuff
This week none of the All
Stars except the Mites,
participated in house league play
but the games were still very
good as the other boys showed
what they could do.
This was shown when Brian
Mercer scored a hat trick for
Boston as his team romped to a
4-0 win over Montreal. David
Atthill scored the other goal.
Montreal received three
penalties to none for Boston.
St. Louis defeated the North
Stars in a 3-1 decision. Randy
Parsons scored two while Steven
Skinner scored the other goal for
St. Louis. Danny Bell notched
the only North Star marker.
In mite hockey David Bell,
Peter Martene, Doug Hoffman,
Craig Alexander, Paul Gaiser,
Doug Fletcher and Preston
Dearing scored single goals.

Craig four points up in
Ausable Valley play
Ailsa Craig has opened up a
four point lead at the top of the
heap in the Ausable Valley Rec
league as the result of the latest
action.
Over the week-end Ailsa Craig
downed Brinsley 8-2 while
Shipka and Brinsley were
battling to a 6-6 tie.
Ailsa Craig now has a total of
22 points while Shipka has 18 in
second spot and Brinsley and
Lieury follow with respective
point totals of 15 and 12.
TRIPLE SCORERS
Brian Gillies and John
Schenkel each scored three goals
to lead the Ailsa Craig scoring
attack. Single goals were added
by Bob Duncan and Gwyn
Griffiths.
Wes Hodgins and Jim
Thompson were the goal getters
for Brmsley.
ALL TIED UP
In Sunday's 6-6 tie, Bob
Finkbeiner and Brian Hodgins
each scored two goals to lead the
Shipka scoring attack while
Larry Mason and Rene
Boogemans each notched single
markers.
Martin Steeper was the only
two goal scorer for Lieury with
single tallies being notched by
Ron Mawson, Bob Robinson,
Bob Bender and Hugh Watson.

Huron District High School
during the past week.'
South Huron wrestlers fresh
from winning the Huron-Perth
Conferenge championship a
week earlier failed to make
much of a showing hi WOSSA
final play in , Strathroy,
Saturday.
Danny Shoebottom who tips
the scales at 220 pounds lost out
in the final round to an
opponent that outweighed him
by 70 pounds. Shoebottom goes
on to represent the local school
in the All-Ontario finals in
Toronto this weekend.
Ross Huff and Morley
Eagleson of South Huron won
their first round matches but
lost out in the second,
Other local wrestlers taking
part in the all-day event were
Pete Sereda, Gerard Charrette,
Barry Miller, Gary Gibson, Tom
Prout, Ron Hartman and Mike
Miller.
In basketball action, the four
local teams took on Wingham
clubs Tuesday to close out the
season and came up with only
ony win. The senior boys won
their game 52-50 while the
juniors were on the short end of
the score.
The junior and senior girls
teams lost to Wingham by
respective scores of 31.10 and
40-29.
In other games not reported,
the local girls won a
doubleheader from Milverton in
exhibition play. The seniors
were victorious 29-12 while the
juniors won 24-12.
Against Mitchell, the local
girls split with the juniors
winning 23-19 and the seniors
losing 27-21.
Another twin bill against
Stratford Central brought an
even split. The South Huron
juniors won 11.6 while the
seniors were losing 38-17.
The final series against
Goderich resulted in wins for the
lakeport girls by scores of 37-16
and 25-16 in the junior and
senior games, respectively.

Jets lose first of semi-final
play at .Huron Park, Friday
The Lucan-Ilderton Jets easy
winners over Acton Tanners in
the first round of the Ontario
Hockey Aso,pciation
Intermediate "B" series find
themselves one game down to
the Elmira Polar Kings in the
best-of-five semi-final series.
The Jets were on the short
end of a 5-4 count to the Elmira
club at the Huron Park arena,
Sunday afternoon.
The second game was played
in Elmira last night, Wednesday
with the third back at Huron
Park arena, Friday night at 8:30.
The winner of this series will
meet the Durham Huskies in the
league final.
LOSE EARLY LEAD
Off to a quick start with a 3-1
lead at the end of the first
period, the Jets failed to hang on
as the Polar Kings scored two
unanswered goals in the third
period to pull out the narrow
victory.
Jorn Hansen opened the
scoring for Elmira at the five
minute mark of the opening
session on a play with Laverne
Miller and Bill Weber.
The Lucan-Ilderton boys
struck for their first two goals In
a space of sixteen secondi just
past the halfway mark of the
first period.
Doug Galloway notched the
game's opening goal on a play
started by Jamie Robb and Ken
Loft fired the second marker on
a three-way pawing effort with
Steve Proctor and Larry
Floasack,
Jamie Robb put the Jets two
goals in front at 16.28 on a
unassisted jaunt down the ice.
The L-I club went out in
front 4.1 early in the second
frame with Larry Hossack
converting passes from Ron
Cauduro and Jim Bender into a
goal for his team.
At 11.01 of the same period,
veteran Joe Grundy beat Wayne
Parkinson in the Jets' net to
bring the visitors within one goal
of tying the score.
Early in the third period, Ron
Each scored the equalizer and
Don Selling scored what proved
to be the winner near the seven
minute mark.
The Jet goals in the first
period by Galloway and Robb
were scored with Elmira playing
a man short while Hossack's in
the second period was fired with
the team playing five aside.
All Elmira goals were scored
when both clubs were at full
strength.

Bears lead
WOAA set
The Dashwood Bears have
taken a commanding lead over
Ripley in their best-of-seven
Western Ontario athletic
Association Intermediate `D'
playoff series.
The Bears won 5-4 in Ripley
Sunday and 3-2 in Zurich
Tuesday night to move in front
three games to none.
The fourth game will be
played in Ripley Friday with a
fifth contest, if necessary back
in Zurich, Tuesday night.
HOLD ON
In the third game on home
ice, the Dashwood club scored
three times in the first period
and held off a third period
Ripley rally to gain a 3.2
decision.
Bob Hoffman, Larry Lovie
and Jim Morrissey were the
Dashwood goal getters.
Bill Hoffman scored two
goals in Ripley Sunday to lead
the Bears' attack while single

Detroit tied 2 all. Bruce Hodge
and Richard Clarke scored the
Panther goals. John Van Grewen
and Robert Guenther scored the
only Detroit goals. The Panthers
had three penalties while Detroit
had two.
The Blues and the Seals also
tied 2-2. Jim Webb scored both
goals to be the hero for the
Seals. Paul Mohr and Doug
Regier scored singles for the
Blues.
Play-offs start in Novice and
Pee Wee houseleague next week.
The first place club will be
matched with the third place
team and the second place team
will meet the fourth place team.

three series with the two winners
to meet in the finals.
The Novice team won their
first play-off game against St.
Marys last Saturday and the
return game will be here tonight,
Thursday at 7 o'clock.
The Squirts won an
exhibition game in St. Marys last
week and expect a return game
here on Friday from 7 to 8.
