Dashwood United Church ladies have quilting bee Mrs. Jackson Woodsgave the motto, "If you cannot do great things, do little things in a great way. Mrs. speaker, graduate College of Agriculture Technology". She gave a full outline of the Home Economics Program in the two year course at Centralia and told where some of the graduates are employed . . . as food supervisors in hospitals, Home Economics assistants, lab technicians and some working with Dept. of Agriculture. She also invited everyone to attend their Open House at Centralia. Mrs. Johns thanked Gwen for her informative talk. Mrs. Wm. Allen gave a reading and Mrs. Dykeman gave some interesting Household Hints. A penny sale followed the program. 4-H LEADERS The 4-H leaders of Elimville attended the Leaders' School last week at Exeter United Church. IRVIN RADER DASHWOOD The UCW of Calvary United Church held a work bee with many members attending. A number of quilts were completed. The crib quilts will be donated to the Children's Aid, and the larger ones to mission. A potluck supper was held. Mrs. Stuart Wolfe, chairlady opened the regular meeting with devotions assisted by Mrs. Jack Gaiser and Mrs. Harold Hendrick. Cindy Beaver, Elizabeth Guenther and Mary Lou Grigg sang several selections. Mrs. Eben Weigand discussed the study book on poverty "The Way Things Are". ROSS SKINNER ELIMVILLE The February meeting of the Women's Institute was held at Elimville Hall Wednesday with the dessert being served before the meeting. Hostesses were Mrs. Cliff Jaques, Mrs. Wm. Routly, Mrs. Jackson Woods and Miss Ruth Skinner. The president, Mrs. Ivan Brock, conducted the business meeting. A letter of thanks was received from the South Huron Hospital Auxiliary for the gift of a lace tablecloth. A dozen stack chairs were purchased and these chairs are not to be removed from the hall. The next euchre will be Monday evening with Mrs. Philip Johns Mrs. Marty DeJonge and Mrs.Jackson Woods in charge. The March of Dimes were received by the Marching Mothers who collected throughout the township. Roll Call was answered with "an article I wish I had not bought and why?" Mrs. Lorne Johns was convener for the program "Home Economics and Health." Mrs. Johns gave several recipes for "Happiness". Fly west to be at wedding MT. LADIES' AID The mid-week Lenten sermon "Were you There?" by Rev. E. E. Steinman was the topic for the evening. Sixteen ladies and four visitors gathered in the basement for a business meeting. The Altar Guild reported ten visits and one gift of flowers. The new Guild is Mrs. Martha Miller and Mrs. Irvin Rader. The ladies accepted an invitation from Calvary United Church ladies to meet with them Friday March 13 to see pictures on the Guenther's recent trip to Bethlehem. FRED 130WDEN CENTRALIA Hearts and cupids added the Valentine touch to the February meeting of the UCW in the schoolroom of the church Thursday with Mrs. W. R. Essery, Mrs. M. Elliott and. Mrs. G. Dunn in charge of the program. The worship was given by Mrs. Dunn, assisted by Mrs. Essery. A piano solo was played by Lois Elliott. Mrs, Lorne Hicks showed beautiful coloured slides to illustrate her trip to the British Isles and to Western Canada and California. Mrs. Sam Skinner presided over the business. NORMAN LONG KIPPEN Mrs. Ken McKay opened the UCW meeting with fitting Lenten thoughts of the need to remove fears and doubts and express our love for others in deeds as well as words in order to be true followers of Jesus. The President, Mrs. R. Elgie took charge of the business meeting. The pianist, Mrs. Ross Broadfoot added to the enjoyment of the evening by a piano solo. Mrs. E. D. Stuart, assisted by Mrs. E, McLean and Mrs. K. Love presented a public relations and publicity program about the work of the UCW in various parts of the world. Mrs. Elgie read a request from Goderich Camp for assistance toward improving facilities and it was decided to donate $20.00. Clinton Hospital Auxiliary also received a donation of $10.00. Mrs. R. Elgie and Mrs. Bert Faber reported on the sessions of Huron-Perth UCW Presbyterial Annual Meeting in Clinton. Used stamps will be saved and converted to the use of work at the Leprosy Mission. , Mrs. H. Jones expressed courtesy remarks and Mrs. Elgie closed the meeting.
