Jets win first tilt easily,
coaches lead scoring way
The Lucan-Ilderton Jets
appear to be headed for an easy
victory in their Ontario Hockey
Association Intermediate "B"
quarter-final playoff round with
the Acton Tanners.
At the Huron Park arena,
Tuesday night, the Jets swamped
the Taimers 12.0 in a game that
concluded just before midnight.
The Anton club was late arriving
at Centralia due to hazardous
driving conditions,
The second game of the
best-of-five series goes in Acton,
Friday night with the third
contest slated for the Huron
Park arena, Sunday afternoon at
two o'clock.
The winner of the Jet-Tanner
series will meet either Elmira or
Fergus in the next round. In
other action, the Durham
Huskies and Cheltenham
Harvesters are squaring off in a
best-of-seven set.
In Tuesday's game? the Jets
got a lesson from their .coaches
on how the game should -be
played.
Playing coach Jack Nairn led
his club in a scoring way with
four goals and an assist while
ex-coach Steve Storey, .new
playing on a front line picked up
a hat trick for his night's work
and added a pair of assists.
In this one playoff game,
Storey tripled his goal output
for the entire regular season.
It took the Jets less than five
minutes to jump into a three
goal and shoW the visitors they
were out to sweep the series.
Captain Dusty Aldis opened
the scoring at 1.10 taking pass
from Don Urbshott and Steve
Storey to beat the Acton goalie.
In quick order Steve Proctor

Eddie Shack style of play,

seven to five. The Lambeth team.

place. In that game the Irish
played badly .but .Arn Hearn and

Irish captain, again proved
himself a leader by scoring
single.
Sunday, Lucan travelled to
Zurich and ,beat the Dominions
by a five to three margin, Irish
scorers were flashy number
thirteen Doug Rosser, Dave
Revington, Tom Anderson, Jeff
Craig; and once again, Captain
Tom Hodgins.
The scorers for the
Dominions were Aub Bedard,
Bill Stirling, and Leo Desjardine.
The Irish with only two games
left in the regular 'season, both
with Exeter, one having been
played last night and the other
to be played tomorrow night,
are at the time of writing only
two points ahead of the Belmont
Sunsets.

The referee that night was
very young and totally
unprepared to handle the crowd
or the players. Then, last
Wednesday Mitchell came to
town and Liman hit the score
sheet for fourteen goals.
Road-Runner Doug R,osser
scored three goals for a hat trick,
while Jeff Craig, Ken Needham,
and Torn Anderson scored two
Heaecarn.h. Singles went to Tom
Hodgins, Dave Revington, Allen
Kraut, Steve English and Jim
Jurrie Hoestraka and Greg
Strathdee scored for Mitchell.
The three stars were; Jeff Craig,
Doug Rosser and Ken Needham.

Before the period ended the
punk was in the Acton net on
four more occasions Coach
Nairn triggered two of the scores
while the other goals went to
Jim Bender and Ken Loft,
Proctor, Loft and Storey each
picked up two assists during the
first period of play.
In the second session, Storey
found the scoring range with
two goals, one coming on an
unassisted effort, the other being
set up by defenceman Doug
Galloway.
Nairn scored the other goal of
the second period with Ron
Cauduro assisting.
In the third frame, Nairn,
Storey and Don Urbshott were
the Jets' marksmen. Proctor and
Cauduro helped Nairn get into
scoring position while Jim
Bender and Dusty Aldis were
instrumental in setting up
Storey's third tally of the game.
Rick Bradford and Aldis were
the helpers on Urbshott's score.
Wayne Parkinson was in the
nets for the Lucan-Ilderton club
and picked up the shut-out.
Exeter's three minor hockey
teams participating in regular
Shamrock league play over the
Rec loop tied
past week racked up five
consecutive wins.
Wednesday, on Exeter ice,
the local pee wees downed
Huron East 6-2 while the
midgets trounced their London
suburb opposition by a score of
10-0.
In Lucan, Monday, the
Exeter teams swept a
tripleheador from Ilderton. The
Exeter pee wees won the
opening game 7-4, the bantams
were victorious 4-2 and the
midgets won by a score of 4-1.
Newby Tire and Huron Park
each won their games in last
week's action in the Exeter and
district Rae hockey league to
maintain the tie for first place
between the two clubs.
Newby Tire swamped Snell's
Shell 17-7 while Huron Park
were also registering an easy
victory by a score of 11-3 over
the Bank Boys.
The two top clubs each have
15 points for the season while
Snell's are in third spot with eight
points and the Bank Boys hold
down the cellar with four points.
TRIPLE SCORERS
Jack Glover and Ron
Broderick each scored three
times to lead the Newby scoring
in the 17.7 win over Snell's.
Scoring two goals apiece were
Doug McBride, Walt Tiedeman,
Jim McDonald and Bob
McDonald while Ed Kerslake
added the odd counter,
A four goal performance by
Scott Burton was best for Snell's
with single scores going to Paul
Mason, Pete Lawson and Larry
Willert.
ANOTHER HAT TRICK
Don Appleby gained a hat
trick for his night's work in
leading Huron Park to their
victory over the Bank Boys.
Notching two goals each were
Larry Brintnell and Bill Andrews
while Frank Boyle, Jack Turner,
Bob Pinter and Bill Fisher
notched single tallies.
Pete McFalls was best for the
Bank Boys with a two goal
effort and Dick Coulter fired
one successful shot.
TAYLOR LEADS
Against Ilderton, Brain
Taylor led the Exeter pee wee
attack with a four goal splurge.
Notching single goals were Larry
Clarke, Mathew Muller and Brad
Roelofson.
Taylor also scored three goals
in the win over Huron East with
the other markers being fired by
Dave Regier, Larry Clarke and
Howard Schenk.
Perry Stover scored twice to
head the Exeter bantam scoring
in their 4-2 win over Ilderton,
completing the total with lone
goals were John Muller and
Doug Fairbairn.
Most members of the local
midget club shared scoring
honors in the 10-0 romp over
Huron East. Brian Bestard and
Pete Mason were tops with two
goals apiece while singles were
fired by Pete Glover, Robbie
Lindenfield, Scott Litt, Pete
Kleinstiver, Allan Parsons and
Peter Gill.
Against Ilderton Pete Glover
scored twice and singles were
added by Peter Kleinstiver and
Randy Preszcator.
Little change
for curlers
Dart league lead
gets cut slightly
The first place lead of the
Hairpins in the Exeter Legion
mixed dart league was cut to
three points as the result of
Friday's weekly action.
The Hairpins have a season
point total of 66 while the
Sharpshooters are in the
runner-up spot with 63 points
while the Dark Angels and Dart
Sharks are deadlocked in fourth
place with 58 points apiece.
John Link and 'Ann
Romaniuk have extended their
games won to 35 and 20,
respectively while the 147 score
of Maddy Wells is best for .the
ladies and Gerry Edington's 180
leads the men.

Only one change took place
among the leaders in the second
draw of the Exeter men's curling
club and that occurred in the
Monday night division.
Jim Hewitt and his rink have
moved in front with a total of
56 points while Ross Hodgert
has his group in second spot
with 54 points.
In Tuesday play, a rink
headed by Gerald Prout
continues to hold down first
place while Norm Walper is in
second position with a 37 point
total.
Thursday action has ' Lorne
Passmore and his group still in
front with 47 points and a nine
point edge over rinks skipped by
Glenn Fisher and Harry
Sherwood.
