GIBSON, CLERK Women at choose new officers fit The annual congregational, meeting of Holy Trinity Church Was held on Wednesday, January 28, The financial statements showed a very prosperous year for the church and its organizations, all had a healthy balance. It was decided that the church should pay for finishing the walls and floor of Carlisle Hall. The following were elected and appointed to office for 1970: Bill Hodgins, people's warden; Don Ankers, rector's warden; Harvey Hodgins, Wilson Hodgins and Jack Murdy, lay delegates; Jim Davis, Harold Hodgins and Florence Hodgins, substitute lay delegates; Pam Knoblauch, vestry clerk; Edna Shipley, treasurer; Gladys Atkinson, Kay Haggar, Loretta Dickson, Peggy Eisen, Keith Kraul, Bill Haskett , Hilton Roberts, Cal Haskett, Mert Culbert, Clarence Hardy, Dwight Henderson and Earl Knoblauch, Board of Management ; Larry Hotson and Austin Hodgins, auditors; Jack Murdy and Austin Hodgins were appointed to St. James Church Cemetery Board. A League of Loyalty pin was presented to Jackie Root. Mr. Carson preached on "Faith." He said we all have to live by Faith .. . the priest, the scientist, the businessman, everyone. We have progress because we have Faith. The Christian grows through faith in Jesus Christ. Next Sunday, the Holy Communion will be celebrated at 8:00 a.m. The AYM will attend and have breakfast in the church hall after. The Sunday School will meet at 9:45 a.m. An attendance contest is being held called "Following Christ. Each class is going somewhere in the world. Julie Henderson and Joan Barker's class is going to Europe and they are in the lead. Mrs. Culbert's class is going to Asia and they're right behind. Mrs. Carson's class is next and they're going to Africa. Mr. Henderson's class is next and they're headed for North America. Nancy Hardy's class is last and they're going to South America. At 11:00 a.m. the Nursery will meet. The Service of Morning Prayer will feature "Love" for Quinqugesima Sunday. The League of Loyalty will meet after the second hymn. LENTEN SERVICES On Ash Wednesday, February 11 at 7:30 p.m. there will be a Service of Holy Communion. The Couples' Club of Holy Trinity will meet at 8:00 p.m. The speaker will be Mr. J. A. Lister of Lucan who will tell of his experiences while a prisoner during World War II. From February 15 to 19 there will be "Mission '70." A service of worship will be held each evening at 7:30 p.m. After the service a film will be shown and a discussion will be conducted on the theme of the film. These services and discussions will deal with smoking, alcoholism, drug addiction, sex and aging. All are invited to come, ANGLICAN EUCHRE Mrs. Gordon Atkinson's group of Holy Trinity Church, held a euchre party with five tables in play on Tuesday, January 27. Winners were: ladies' high, Mrs. Tom Emery; ladies: lone hands, Mrs. Rose Atkinson; men's high, Mrs. W. Mathers playing a man's hand; men's lone hands, Evan Hod ins; men's low score, Mrs. Evan Hodgins; lucky chair, Lynn Emery. The next euchre will be held February 11 with Kay Egan's group in charge. UNITED CHURCH -"Are you a saint? If not, why not?" was the topic chosen by Rev. W. C. Tupling, Sunday morning. The two lessons were read by A. Melanson and J. Thompson. Next Sunday will be Youth Sunday. Starting. Friday, February 13, Confirmation classes; will commence for all who have not been confirmed. A "Faith at Work" conference will be held at Empress United Church this Saturday. Rev. Gorden Hunter and Rev, Desmond Hunt will be special pests. A "Christian Education Showplace" February 15 Metropolitan London. The "Learning for Lent" Series planned for Wednesday mornings, February 18 to March 18, in Lucan United Church has already received several registrations. Three of the leaders are men, so retired men, but who are still interested in being with others are urged to register, The display is in the former bake shop window. Please register before February 8. This will make it possible for needed supplies to be ordered and preparations to be made in advance, freeing more people to be in groups. The 50c fee, for adults, is a bargain price for any one of these events, but that is the total fee, enabling you to attend all five. (We hope the flu won't get you and keep you home). It will be time well spent If we recognize Lent," ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of Lucan United Church was held January 29 with Rev. W. C. Tupling presiding. The meeting was entertained by numbers from the junior choir which were followed by a buzz session on our church's involvement in the community. The question was posed, "In what sense is the church a Christian community" Treasurer, M. H. Hodgins reported a satisfactory financial year. New members elected to the committee of Stewards were Neil Campbell, Gary Revington, Dale Froats and Leroy Maguire, UCW representatives appointed to the official board were Mrs. S. Penington and Mrs. A. Kernick. UCW The evening UCW met Tuesday evening with nine members answering the roll call. Mrs. E. Melanson chaired the meeting in the absence of the unit president, Mrs. Seward. Mrs. E. Stanley acted as secretary. Mrs. Alex Young agreed to be the telephone committee for the unit. It was agreed that two people each month would look after the worship service, lunch and study book. Mrs. Wm. Froats and Mrs. J. Lockyer agreed to take the next meeting. Mrs. Tupling gave a talk on the Lenten Season. It was suggested that next month each person would answer the roll call with a Bible verse pertaining to Easter. The secretary's and treasurer's reports were read. A report was given on the units financial accomplishments of last year by Mrs. Reilly. The meeting was then turned over to Mrs. Reilly for a very inspiring worship service. Mrs. Melanson then thanked both Mrs. Reilly and Mrs. H. Mr. & Mrs. Clarence G. Lewis spent Sunday at Streetsville, visiting their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Willis Brown. Mrs. Annie Lewis of London spent the weekend in the district visiting relatives. Sunday she attended the birthday dinner at Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Lewis' of Clandeboye. Mrs. Bob Coleman, Mrs. W. W. Garrett, Mrs. Jack Garrett, Mrs, Don MacTaggart and family returned Saturday from a 17.day motor trip to Florida. Although Mrs. Coleman celebrated her 86th birthday, February 2, she enjoyed every minute of the long trip. Rev, R. A, Carson, Wean, visited the McCormick Home last Thursday leaving copies of the annual report of Holy Trinity Anglican church. Mr. & Mrs. Don Abbott and family spent last weekend in Niagara Falls guests of Mr, & Mrs. Billy Abbott and family. Mrs. Jane Sommerville of Main Street South who has been unwell for sortie time has purchased a house at 2013 Rockwell Road, Orlando, Florida, She deeply regrets leaving her relatives and friends, and the sale of her Lucan home which was once the abode of her grandparents. But her health necessitates the move. Mr. & Mrs, Cliff Abbott returned from a four-day visit with Mr. & Mrs. Allan Tyndall, Wiarton. The Norman Hardy family have been down with the flu. Mrs. Nellie Foreman, Miss Line Abbott of the McCormick Home were among those taken to South Secondary School to see the splendid show of "What a War" staged by the students. The family of Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan Revington entertained at a dinner party, Saturday, January 31. in honor of their parents' 40th wedding anniversary. The event took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Campbell, Valetta Street, London. Guests were present from Sarnia, Clandeboye, Lucan and London. CHILDREN'S MOVIES Saturday over 20 children saw films in Carlisle Hall. The next `Picture Show' will be held on Valentine's Day, February 14 at 10:00 a.m. BABY SHOWER Amid a suitable setting at the home of Mrs. Ed Butler, a baby shower was held Thursday night for Mrs. Jerry Butler. Games were conducted by Joyce and Marlene Butler followed by the presentation of gifts to the guest of honor. A lovely lunch was enjoyed, served by hostess and her daughter. Mrs. Lloyd Mason and Mrs. Marion Cochrane also assisted. Mrs. Jerry Butler was the former Connie Voll from Shaunivon, Saskatchewan. MEDWAY EUCHRE CLUB The euchre club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff McRobert with four tables in play. The ladies' high score went to Mrs. Austin Hobbs; lone hands, Mrs. William McComb; low score, Mrs. Violet Nixon; men's high, Austin Hobbs; lone hands, Clarence G. Lewis; low score, Jim Kerr. The next club meeting will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carman Hodgins, February 9, CGIT girls study Indians -The first CGIT meeting for the year was held January 2 in the United Church basement. The meeting was chaired by the president, Brenda Herbert. A valuation of the Christmas activities was given by Mrs. Melanson. Thank-you notes and letters from the recipients of the Christmas fruit baskets were read by the secretary, Karen Herbert, as well as letters from the- CGIT Vesper Service committee and the CGIT committee. A favourable treasurer's report was given by the treasurer, Linda Hodgins. The president announced that the study on the Canadian Indian would continue next Tuesday, with a possible speaker. Joan Lockyer gave a reading followed by the Iroquois Prayer by Bev Shunka. Mrs. Worthington gave her talk on the Indian problems in Canada. The girls were very interested in this revealing talk. Mrs. Tupling then showed Indi'an crafts, and gave a few minutes talk on her experiences with the Indian people. By MISS ELLA MORLOCK cREDITON The annual meeting of Zion United Church was held Thursday evening, January 29, in the Sunday School auditorium. Reports of the past year were reviewed and the spiritual life of the congregation considered. It was felt that the churches have shown real harmony and fine Christian fellowship in their attempt to make one congregation of two. The year was successful spiritually as well as financially. There is a strong, growing Sunday School. Besides the Sunday morning services, there is an evening Fellowship Hour at the manse. Gordon Ratz acted as secretary, with Rev. Douglas Warren as chairman, for a business session. A series of Lenten services was announced for February and March, and the anniversary service for May 24 with Dr. Hallman as guest speaker. Lorne Hodge and Wilmer Wein were appointed auditors; Steven Dundas, chairman of the Men's Group. A vote of thanks was extended to Rev. and Mrs. Warren for their leadership. Rev. Warren showed slides of his work as student minister in Consul, Saskatchewan, a parish which covered fifty square miles. At the close of the meeting a potluck lunch was served. RUBY IRENE MOLITOR Mrs. Ruby Irene Molitor passed away in Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital on Thursday, January 29, in her 70th year. Daughter of the late William and Mary Ann (Hales) Caswell, she was born in Flesherton. Mrs, Molitor was a member of the United Church, a member of the United Church Women, and a member of the Women's Institute. Prior to retiring to Strathroy two years ago, she taught school in Crediton. She is survived by a daughter Mrs. Roland (Joyce) Grenier, Beardmore, Ontario; a son, Ambrose Grey Molitor, Strathroy; four granddaughters, Cathy, Jane and Patty Molitor and Beth Grenier; five sisters, Mrs. Margaret Wiltsie, Aylmer, Mrs. Wm. (Florence) Brock, Caldwell, N.J., Mrs. Laurie (Edna) Wells, Dresden, Mrs. Vernon (Myrtle) Snider, Waterloo, Miss Elsie Caswell, Collingwood; She was predeceased by her husband, Ambrose Grey Molitor, two brothers, Nathaniel and William Caswell and a sister Mildred Caswell. Mrs. Molitor rested at the R, W. Elliott Funeral Home, Strathroy where funeral services were conducted by Rev. Glen Barret, Saturday, January 31. Interment was in Pine Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Alfred Smith, Crediton, Frank Wiltsie, Aylmer, Don Snider, Waterloo, Reg. Finkbeiner, London, Kenneth Ferguson, London and Donald Ferguson, RR 2 Ilderton. Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Finkbeiner and Mrs. Ross Haugh attended the funeral, Many friends were prevented from attending by the flu epidemic which has struck many homes in the area. BAPTISM The sacrament of infant baptism was administered Sunday by Rev. Douglas Warren to Lisa Marie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Martin, and to Julia Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hendrick. Following the ceremony, family gatherings were held at the homes of the parents. 'Miner installing the newly elected Officers; This was followed by Communion. Mrs. Jackson. Woods assisted as the member of the session. The meeting then moved to the Sunday School rooms for a pot luck dinner with hostesses Mrs. .Squire Herdman and Mrs. Alvin Cooper serving. Following the meal the regular meeting was conducted with the new president, Mrs. Howard Pym giving the welcome. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER The World's Day of Prayer will be observed at Elimville Church with the Thames Road UCW as guests. Each unit is going to quilt one large and one crib quilt. Mrs. Alan McLennon and Miss Ruth Skinner were in charge of the program. Stories were read by Miss Skinner and Mrs. Jackson Woods. Mrs. Charles Martin returned home on Friday from St. Joseph's Hospital where she has been in a cast for four months. Centralia residents enjoy euchre play
