Ten Kenette members and eight volunteers did the canvassing. Chief Marching Mother was Mrs. Grant MacGregor. Sylvia Henderson has been transferred to the Bank of Montreal, London, England, and leaves from Toronto International Airport February 7. Mr. & Mrs. Albert Shirray have returned from a months holiday in Florida, Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Shirray flew down to Tampa and accompanied them home. Capt. John R. Beer of Winnipeg, spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Fred Beer, and Mr. & Mrs. George Beer and family. Mrs. Gladys Coleman and Mrs. Esther Moffatt left Sunday for a vacation in Florida. There will be a 4-H club starting in February, any girl interested is asked to contact Mrs. Wm. Fuss, phone 262-2946 or Mrs. Don Travers phone 262-2505 before February 7th. W. J. Clement, of Sales and Service, who recently fractured his leg in a snowmobile accident is doing nicely and able to get around with a walking cast. Mr. & Mrs. Sandy Bisset are honeymooning at Corpus Christi, Texas, with the latters sister Miss Pauline Bell and were guests on "Holiday on Ice". Mr. & Mrs. Laird Mickle spent a few days recently in Hamilton with their son Charles and also visited with their daughter and son-in-law Mr. & Mrs. Ross MacMillan and family in Waterloo. Mr. & Mrs. Albert Alexander left Tuesday of this week for St. Petersburg, Florida where they will vacation. Robert Baker Sr., Hensall was taken to South Huron Hospital Wednesday. He was injured in a fall at home. Captain George Sangster of Gimli, Man. visited this week with his brother and sister-in-law Mr. & Mrs. John Sangster and other members of his family. Mr. & Mrs. George Parker, Randy and Roddy are holidaying with Mr. & Mrs. Oron Williams and family at Summerside P.E.I. and with Constable Douglas Wein, Mrs. Wein and David in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Holland and daughter Gwen of Clinton visited this week with Mr. & Mrs. Jim Sangster and Bradley. Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Rannie and family and Mr. & Mrs. Howard Rannie and family of London visited on the weekend with their parents Mr. & Mrs. Sam Rannie. Mrs. Agnes McLean returned home after visiting with relatives in Toronto. Mr. Alf Clark returned home after spending several weeks with relatives in Toronto. Services were conducted by Rev. W. D. Jarvis in Carmel Presyterian Church on Sunday. The choir under the direction of Mrs. Malcom Dougall sang an anthem "Not Alone." The flowers were placed in the church in memory of the late Mrs. W. J. Murdoch, by her family, and in Memory of the late James A. Foster by his wife and family. Mrs. Herb Stretton was taken by Westlake's ambulance to South Huron Hospital, Exeter, Thursday, January 29. Floyd Craine, Hensall, who has been a patient in South Huron Hospital, has been transferred to St. Joseph's Hospital, London. James Foster dies in hospital James A, Foster, prominent resident of Hensall for fifty-three years passed away in South Huron Hospital, Exeter on Tuesday, January 27, in his 81st year. Surviving are his wife the former Allota (Lottie) Hildebrant; two sons, Harold, Hensall; Ray, Shipka; two daughters, Jean, Mrs. Harry Smith, London; Marie, Mrs. Bill Howe, Toronto; one sister, Mrs. Jacob Battler, RR 3 Zurich; one brother, Albert Biggar, Sask.; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Lorne. Mr. and Mrs. Foster celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in August, 1969. The body rested at the Bonthron Funeral Home until Friday, January 30, when Requiem High Mass was officiated by Father A. Durand in St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, Zurich. Interment was in St. Boniface Cemetery. Prayers were said Thursday evening in the funeral home. Pallbearers were, Louis Erb, Ross Perry, Vern Sommers, John Hart, George Hildebrand, Alp honsu s Dietrich. An evening service of Holy Communion was celebrated at St. Pauls Anglican Church by the Rev. G, A. Anderson, Flowers in the church were in memory of the late James A, Foster. Despite the "flu bug" and inclement weather conditions many members ventured forth for the annual dinner and business meeting of Hensel United Church. The UCW convened the dinner after which president Mrs, Vern Alderdice presided for an informal program of music with Mrs, Bill Fuss at the piano and a humorous reading "Just Like A Man," Before the chairman, Rev, Harold Currie conducted the business sessions all present rose in recognition of Mrs. Edna Paterson who was celebrating her 80th birthday. The annual report booklets were distributed and reviewed which told the story of the church's work for 1969. Vern Alderdice expressed the sentiments of the congregation when he paid tribute to the retiring church treasurer, Mrs. Peter McNaughton for her diligent and efficient work in regard to the church finances during the past several years. She was presented with a gift by the Stewardship Committee. Harvey Keys will succeed Mrs. McNaughton as church treasurer. Edison Forrest was elected to another 3-year term as clerk of the congregation, In his absence Jack Drysdale was appointed secretary for the evening's business. The chairman of the Stewardship committee, Grant Youth, adults join debate A contemporary Youth Service was presented at the United Church, Sunday. The service was arranged by the Hi-C Fellowship which includes young people from Hensall and Chiselhurst. A panel consisting of Carman Currie, Mary Mock, Hensall, and Janet Ecker and Bob Read of Exeter was moderated by Glen Webster, a representative from the Toc Alpha youth section. Topics up for discussion were religion, drugs, alcohol, sex and communication. In a dialogue between the congregation and the panel a suggestion was made to have two Sunday church services, one for adults and one for young people. Some participants felt a compromise could be reached to merge the two. A Girls' Chorus , including Shirley Brintnell, Jean Cole, Ann Keys, Mary Mock and Cathy Cook sang "Blowin' in the Wind.". Others taking part were Donna Forest, Nancy Forrest. McGregor, presented the budget of $17,000.00 for 1970 which was accepted as well as the nominating committee report. New members to the Stewardship committee are: Jack Drysdale, Bill Fuss and Ron Wareing. The.trustee board requested that due to the retirement pf Elgin Rowcliffe and James McAllister that the following men be added to the church trustees: Walter Spencer, Ian McAllister, Bill Rowcliffe, Doug Cook and Vern Alderdice. It was announced that February would be known as "Observer Month" and anyone wishing to subscribe to this valuable church bi-monthly paper should contact the congregational United Church Observer Representative, Mrs. P. L. McNaughton as soon as possible. Congregational and United Church Women contributions to Kinettes donate to organization The Hensall Kinette Club met last Wednesday night at the home of Mrs, Alvin Campbell. President Mrs. Harold Knight welcomed the special guest Mrs. Ken Pollock. Donations were made to the Mental Retardation Association and to March of Dimes which the Kinettes sponsored Monday, February 2nd in a canvass of the village. Plans were finalized for the club's assistance at the arena booth for the winter carnival weekend. The meeting ended with the club making decorations for the Kinsmen Kinette float which was entered in the parade. By MRS. WELLWOOD GILL Mrs. H.
