Noble Grand, Mrs. Grace ' Thompson assisted by Vice Grand, Mrs. Myrtle Taylor were in •charge of the business of the Lodge. 'A donation was made to the United Pilgrimage Committee, and arrangements were made for the annual birthday party to be held February 4 and to invite members of a neighbouring lodge. Mrs, Myrtle Taylor reported for the visiting committee and Mrs. Dorothy Corbett gave financial reports, Arrangements were made to ,Rebekohs ,observe night for secret pals Snow events to aid arena New president, Mrs. Vic Stan took the chair for the January meeting of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary held in the Legion Hall. It was announced the Auxiliary will cater to a wedding anniversary in the near future. Mrs. Grant McClinchey and Mrs. R. Vanstone were installed on the executive by Past President, Mrs. Garnet Allan. The group will also conduct a bingo at the giant winter carnival coming up this month. Prizes were won by Mrs. Don Koehler, Mrs. Grant Bisback and Mrs. Clarence Reid. Theme song at first meet Miss Margaret MacCormack of Ottawa, Northern Senior Ladies Figure Skating Champion of 1969, visited with Miss Troyann Bell last week. Unit 2 met for the first meeting of the New Year Monday evening. Mrs. Harold Currie extended a welcome and gave a few thoughts for the New Year. The new UCW theme song was introduced and sung. Mrs. Jack Drysdale presented the devotional, with the theme being "Time". Mrs. Currie read a poem "Think It Over". Mrs. Rodger Venner presented the study "Reconciliation of a Broken World", dwelling on the fact that action and reflections need to be interdependent; only so will reconciliation be discovered and realized. It was announced that the congregational dinner and annual meeting will be Wednesday, January 28. Executive meeting is to be held Monday afternoon, January 19 at 1:30. Huron and Perth Presbyterial UCW is to be held Thursday, January 29 at Wesley Willis United Church, Clinton. Mr. Craine, who is confined to a wheel chair as a result of a car accident in New Brunswick in December 1969, is the son of Mrs. David Leader of 156 king Street. Contributions for the special appeal for Overseas Relief and Development at Hensall United Church amounted to $828.00. Mrs. Robert Chaffe of Mitchell spent a few days with her parents Mr. & Mrs. John Corbett and Al. Mrs. Verna Twitchell has returned after spending two weeks holiday with her daughter and son-in-law Mr. & Mrs. Allen Davidson,Cindy and Brian, of Port Colorne. A quiet wedding was solemnized in Hensall United Church Friday, January 9 at 6 o'clock, when Ruby Jean, daughter of Mrs. John Ingram of Hensall, and the late John Ingram, and Allan Crerar, RR2 Hensall, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Alex Crerar, exchanged marriage vows before the Rev. H.F. Currie. The attendents were Mr. & Mrs. Neil Campbell of Listowel. Miss Barbara Woodruff of London, regional secretary of London-Hamilton Synodical, was a house guest Monday of this week with Mrs. Gordon Schwalm. Mr. & Mrs. Grant Love of Cairo, Michigan, spent the weekend with the former's sister Mrs. John E. McEwan and attended the funeral of the late John E. MeEwan. Mrs. Amelia Schroeder returned to Arkona last week after holidaying with her son and daughter-in-law Mr. & Mrs. Ed Schroeder and family. Carolyn Leigh Soldan, infant datighter of Mr. & Mrs. William H. Soldan, received the sacrament of holy baptism at Hensall United Church Sunday morning with Rev. Harold F. Currie in charge. Mrs. Leona Parke visited this week with her sister Miss Viola Lemmon and other relatives in Toronto. Lifelong resident passes away John E. McEwan, a life long resident of Hensall, passed away Saturday January 10 in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, where he had been admitted the week previous from the Blue Water Rest Home, Zurich. He had been a resident there for several years. , In his 85th year he was born on the homestead farm a short distance from Hensall on Highway 4 and where he lived and farmed all his life until recent years. He was a member of Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hensall and also a member of the IOOF Lodge 223 Hensall. Surviving are his wife, the former Grace Love, and several nieces and nephews. Public funeral services were held Monday, January 12 at the Bo nthron Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. W.D. Jarvis with burial in Hensall Union cemetery. The IOOF Lodge conducted a service at the funeraln home Sunday evening. Pallbearers were Earl & Percy Campbell, Ed Munn, Glenn Bell, Stanley Love and Archie Parsons. ST. PAUL'S A.C.W. St. Paul's ACW met at the home of Mrs. F. Clark with Mrs.' W. Scrabuik presiding. Business of the day was attended to and the bulletin read. Mrs. Mary Taylor read a letter from Captain Corey, the prayer partner of Beverly Lodge. It was decided to send a donation of money to Capt. Corey. Mrs. G.A. Anderson conducted Bible readings all members taking part. Next meeting will* be held at the home of Mrs. Annie Reid. This Weekend . . Auxiliary plans bingo at carnival The annual winter carnival sponsored by the Hensall recreation, parks and community centre board will open Friday, January 30 with the crowning of the snow queen. Saturday events will include a parade, snowmobile races, snow sculpturing and hockey games with a Christmas tree burn, an exhibition hockey game and more snowmobile races scheduled for the carnival wind-up Sunday. Proceeds will be used . to rebuild the arena roof and make other repairs to the building. By MRS. J.
