The Usborne supply is being turned over to the Exeter Legion for distribution. Shown above with a portion of the canned goods are kindergarten students Kathy Eckert and Danny Gower. If I were Santa Claus N By GEORGE ARMSTRONG Grade 4 — Exeter If I were Santa Claus I think I'd have a lot of trouble. To begin with probably Dasher would get sick from excitment (he always does). I'd give him my special medicen which is really sugar cane but fools him. Mrs. Santa would ask me to take her cookies to the cupboard and I'd probably drop them. When I load up, my bag I'd end up in the bag myself. And Pm afraid of high hights. I'd fall of three feet above the ground. I'd try 14 times and finally get on and not fall of. Then almost kill myself by not steering right, I'd just miss a four motored plane, hit a lamp-post and run into a tree. And when you go down the chimneys, you all know Santa is fat and I would hardly be able to go down. Sometimes I wish I couldn't because of the sout. I'd get mouthfuls by the dozen. Boy would the people be mad when they found sout all over the floor. When I get home I'd be the coldest and the most tired person in the world. I'm kind of glad I'm not Santa Claus. CHRISTMAS IN CANADA By WENDY WEDGE Grade 8 — Exeter As everyone knows, the 25th day of December each year is Christmas. Christmas is not just a time to give and receive presents, but a time to rejoice and be merry. As people get ready for this festive season, Christmas trees decorated with ornaments are put up, holly and mistletoe are hung, while adults and children constantly shop for Christmas gifts. Throughout this season you see children skating, bobsledding, etc. just waiting until Santa Claus will arrive on Christmas Eve. The parents are very busy, wrapping gifts in brightly coloured paper and ribbons, and getting the Christmas dinner ready. When Christmas Eve arrives, the children are so excited that they just can't get to sleep, because they know that it is the night that Santa Claus will come. On Christmas Day the great festivities start. The children open their gifts and adults go about with chores or talking to relatives. Then the biggest highlight of Christmas Day arrives — the Christmas dinner. As the family is seated around the table, they say a prayer and enjoy the scrumpuous feast which was prepared for them. This is the way many Canadians celebrate Christmas. A WINTER SCENE By Lois Elliott I looked out the window one December night, The snowflakes were glistening among the coulered lights, Long clear icicles hanging from the roof, The prints in the snow reminded me of reindeer hoofs. The snowman was standing on guard on the lawn, A scarf on his neck and a stick for a wand; A snowplow was pushing the snow from the road, Making way for the cutter coming along with a load. CHRISTMAS AT THE McFLEE'S HOUSE By KATHY CAMPBELL Grade 8 — Exeter PS It was a dark and stormy night. The tree-tops glistened from the snow. Everything was peacefull and quiet around the McFlee's house. The children were snuggled in their beds upstairs in the house sound asleep for Santa to come. All of a sudden down in the livingroom there arose such a clatter that everyone jumped out of bed to see what was the matter. They ran down the stairs to the living room and there as big as life was Santa Claus. He was lying there on the floor as he tripped over Jenny's rollar skate. Mr. & Mrs. McFlee sent the children back up stairs into bed. They let Santa Claus rest for awhile so they tip-toed carefully up the stairs. The children woke up at the crack of dawn to see what Santa had left them. After Jenny opened one of her gifts she found out that it was the rollar skate that Santa had tripped over. Ever since then she had learned to pick things up after herself. MY CHRISTMAS WISH By RANDIE HICKS JAD McCurdy I'd like to be different from all the children, and write about something really worth while! I'd not likely to write about Santa, or dolls or machine guns and all the other things that children want. I'd like to write about getting along and sharing with others, stopping wars, riots and getting people to work for a living. The way everything is run in the world today there will never be "peace on earth"! I'm very sure that everyone on the earth today would be very proud to be able to say there is "peace on earth and good will to all men"! CHRISTMAS IS ON THE WAY By JANE GUENTHER Grade 8 — Stephen Central School Christmas is on the way Is what people always say, As they decorate windows and trees Thinking of Santa sailing the seas. Mother is baking cookies, yum yum Thinking of when the relatives come. She will have many cookies and sweets Which everyone will eat and eat. Brother is watching mother bake So when he is hungry he has something to take The Christmas cookies were so hot He yelled out and got caught! I hope that Santa brings lots of toys To all the good boys and girls As people always say, "Christmas is on the way." CHRISTMAS JOY By SHARON RADER Grade 8 — Stephen Central Christmas carols gaily sung Coloured lights brightly strung. People hurrying as they go Adding to the Christmas joy. Children whose eyes widely stare At all the toys waiting there. Wishing, hoping they will get All their wishes fully met. What makes Christmas joy? Happiness for each girl and boy Gifts and food for the needy Making weary hearts cheery. Christmas in Denmark f$y JANE MEYER My name is Jane and I am going. to tell you. toW I celebrate my Christmas in Denmark, It was. a day before the 1. of December, I could hardly wait till tomorrow for .Santa Claus would .beeorning to put presents on my calendar, Next Morning got up as I4,5t. as I could and, there on my calendar were big and little presents to open till the .24th of December. Then I ran down stairs with the first present to open it. Just guess. What I .got, a beautiful necklace and in it; were blue little dimonde shaped like perals. 23 Days Later: It was the day before Christmas Eve. I was excited for the Christmas tree would be arriving any minute now. (Ding Ding). The door bell range, I ran to the door and there was the Christmas tree and my father. My father stood the Christmas tree in the living room. I thought it was a huge tree and it was beautiful too. Christmas day everything was a rush my mother was busy making the supper and dessert. My mother always makes a dessert I like. It's almonds mixed with other good things. My mother puts one whole almond in the desert. Who ever finds the whole almond on the spoon of desert my mother pours out for them they get a little present. Christmas Eve I was watching the clock for I was waiting till 8:00 o'clock for the guests would be arriving soon. Then it was 8:00 o'clock. I ran to the door for my grandparents had arived. Then soon all the other guests arrived. After supper my mother pours a big bowl of pourridge and opens the kitchen window and puts a spoon beside the bowl in the window then we go in the living room. Santa Claus can eat the pourridge.. And then in a little while we go out of the living room and leave my father there and he would shut the door and then he would open the window and let Santa Clause in. Santa Claus would help my father light the candles on the Christmas tree and put all the presents under the Christmas tree. Then Santa Claus will go and my father would open the door and let us in. Then we take hands and dance around the Christmas tree and sing songs. Then my father would call out the name of the person who would get the peresent. And that is how we celebrate Christmas in Denmark. CHRISTMAS ACROSTIC CH R ISTMAS By JUDY PENNINGA Grade 5 — Exeter C Candles blaze with firelight, H Heavens sing 0 Holy Night. While we sing carols on Christmas Day, We think of .the Christ Child asleep on the hay We think of the angels singing his glorious praise As upon the Christ Child they gaze. While we see lights on Christmas day We think of the star that shone far away To guide the three kings to where the child was born On that special day on that special mom. 1
