no exception in the Christmas pageant at the Exeter United Church. Mrs. Ray Murley works on Art

Blood donations
urgently needed
A blood clinic will be staged
by, the Red Cross at the R. E.
Pooley Legion Hall on Monday,
December 29 and area residents
are reminded of the increased
need for donations during the
holiday season.
One reason is the higher
accident rates both on the
highways and in the home.
Certain kinds of chronic
ailments — bleeding ulcers, for
example — also seem to take a
jump during the frenzy of the
festive season.
Members of the local Legion
Ladies' Auxiliary will be
assisting Red Cross officials
during the clinic, which will be
open from six to nine p.m.

In a :ollow-up to an
announcemr nt a few months
ago, Walter Palmer, manager of
Ontario Hydro Clinton said last
week tha tentative plans call for
transfer of the Exeter office to
Clinton by June 1 of 1970.
He said plans will become a
little firmer in the next two
weeks. In order to make the
change a new combined area
office and service centre must be
built in Clinton.
Tenders have been called for
the new structure but a contract
has not been awarded as yet.
The majority of the present
Exeter area staff will be
transferred to Clinton with a few
heading for Strathroy. Palmer
said every one that is presently
employed out of the Exeter
office will have the opportunity
for a transfer. "No one will be
out of a job as the result of the
changes."
Some changes will be made in
billing procedures because of the
New truck
for Stephen
Stephen Township council at
its last meeting of the year
authorized the purchase of a
new pick-up truck for use by the
municipality's road department.
The lowest of five tenders was
received from Larry Snider
Motors of Exeter. The Exeter
firm will provide a 1970 Ford
truck for $2,097.90 with the
present Stephen truck being
used as a trade-in.
Road Superintendent
Lawrence Hill was instructed to
order a 96-inch diameter pipe to
replace the bridge on the Gaiser
Drain at Lot 10, Concessions 8
and 9.
Ed Hendrick was re-named
the township's representative on
the Ausable River Conservation
Authority.
First and second readings
were given to the Dundas and

Pack church
for pageant
Exeter United Church was
literally packed to the rafters
Sunday night as area residents
streamed in to see and hear the
Christmas Story in Pantomime
and Music.
The C.G.I.T. assisted in
producing the colorful and
ambitious presentation.
The large cast, made up
entirely of church members,
consisted of a tiny baby, many
children of all ages and several
adults. Two live bleating, lambs
were included to add
authenticity to the shepherd
scene.
A full adult choir, assisted by
a junior chorus supplied the
background for the pantomime.
Mrs. F. Wildfong and Robert
Cameron assisted at the organ.
The whole production was
well staged, the costumes,
professional and in the case of
the kings, eloquently exotic.
A presentation of this
magnitude requires the diligence
and hard work of a great number
of people. Special credit goes to
the production staff.
The pageant director was Mrs.
Marjorie Dilkes. Mrs. R. C.
Dinney was in charge of
costumes and properties. The
make-up was under the direction
of Mrs. W. Huntley. Roland
McCaffrey and Larry Taylor and
Bob Chaffe were responsible for
lighting , platform, and
co-ordination respectively.
OK debentures
for Tuckersmith
Tuckersmith Township
council has approved a $50,000
debenture bylaw to cover the
cost of additional cable and
switching facilities for the
Tuckersmith telephone system.
The debenture has been
approved by the Ontario
Municipal Board.
Anglican Church beckoned
Exeter residents to the
Ecumenical carol service
Wednesday night.
The Huronia Men's Chorus
directed by Mrs. R. McCaffrey
performed before an audience
that filled the church.
The service of chorus
selections, scripture readings and
carol singing portrayed the story
of Christ from the prophesy of
His coming up to His birth and
the events immediately
following.
The recently reorganized
men's chorus proved that there
are still good male voices in the
district which only needed to be
brought together and given
competent direction at practice
sessions.
This, Mrs. McCaffrey has done
and she led her choir through
selections that were challenging
to their ability and appealing to
the audience.
The ministers reading from
the Bible were: F. Rhude,
Pentecostal; H. Knip, Christian
Reformed; H. Heeg, Bethel
Reformed; G. Wright, Exeter
United; W. Jarvis, Presbyterian;
Rev. R. J. Groome, Our Lady of
Mount Carmel; G. Anderson,
Trivitt Memorial Anglican.
David Bison was at the organ
for the carol singing and Mrs. F.
