THE CHRISTMAS SEASON
By ANNA MARIE PERTSCHY
Grade 8 — Stephen Central
Has anyone ever considered
how much work Santa does? I
have and maybe you have, too. I
guess most kids think of Santa
the same old run-of-the-mill kind
of person as Dad and his
cheerful wife as a mother in the
busy kitchen weeks before
Christmas. But really Santa
doesn't get any sleep for days
until he just can't stay awake
much longer and his wife is
worrying her heart out thinking
she might ruin Santa's beautiful
fur trimmed red suit while she is
pressing it for the big days or
that she might burn his
Christmas Dinner.
Finally Santa is all ready to
go, dressed in his beautiful
fur-trimmed red suit and not
tired at all. His wife has stopped
worrying because Santa's
Christmas Dinner is doing
wonderfully in the oven. Outside

the sleigh full of toys for Billy,
Jean, Sue and Tommy, is waiting
with eight tiny anxious reindeer
growing impatient to get on
their way. Santa jumps in the
sleigh and gives a whistle and
away they go.
When they near the first
house Santa gives a whistle and
calls them by name: "Now
Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now,
Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet!
On Cupid! On Donder and
Blitzen! We haven't any time to
waste, so to the top of the
porch! To the top of the wall!
We have to hurry!
Santa jumped out of the
sleigh and slid down the
chimney to find stockings
awating his filling, He didn't
waste a second but set straight
to his work-filling the stockings
and adding the final touches to
the decorations before sitting
himself in front of a snack of
Christmas cake and milk.
Long after midnight Santa
has finished his rounds. He could
hardly get up the chimney of the
last house because he was so full
of Christmas cake and milk.
Before leaving the roof top he
turned to the world and said -7
"Merry Christmas to all and the
very best in the New Year."
He gave a jolly laugh that
made his belly seem like a bowl
of jelly before saying "P.S.
Don t eat too much Christmas
turkey or too many other
goodies.

CHRISTMAS JOY
By WALLY FYDENCHUK
Grade 6 — Stephen Central
On Christmas day we jump for
joy, •
Because of all the playful
toys,
Theres guns and balls and
baseball bats,
Dolls and cars and cowboy hats,
Pets and pants and plastic rings,
But these are just some of the
things.
That we get on Christmas day,
And we hope for long they stay.
I hope all you people always
remember,
Santa only comes on the 25th of
December.
WHAT IS CHRISTMAS
By VICKIE MILLER
Gr 6 — Stephen Central
Christmas is a lot of fun,
A'lot of joy for everyone.
Twas the day Jesus was born,
Everyone's happy, not forlorn.
Bells will ring and chimes will
chime,
Telling us all that it's Christmas
time.
Sitting around the Christmas
tree,
We are happy as you can see.

I'd hoped to be home this
Christmas,
But here I am; in the trenches
with my gun;
Oh, well; next year for sure.
But maybe I'm better off at
Christmas than other people,
I have cards, and letters, and
CHARLIE BROWN'S
CHRISTMAS DAY
By ERWIN PFAFF
Grade 5 — Stephen Central
Charlie Brown's Christmas
started at about 6:30 am on a
clear, crisp, cool Friday
morning, I'll tell you about it:
"Oh boy just what I wanted a
supercharged bulldozer and
gravel truck," were Charlie's first
words after he started to unwrap
his gifts.
Snoopy and Lucy were also
busily involed, ripping off the
colourful wrap Santa Claus had
used to tie their gifts.
Then, "Good grief", as
Charlie Brown unwrapped a
brand new, shiny, silver, dog
dish.
At the same time Snoopy let
out a groan and picked out of
the bell covered wrap a doll.
"Look at my new pair of
hockey skates, sweaters and
puck, was Lucy's comment to
Charlie's amazement.
Their mother and father just
sat back and laughed.
After some exchanging of
gifts and giggling Charlie Brown
explained "I guess even Santa
Claus can make a mistake."
The day went on with much
excitement. Charlie, Snoopy and
Lucy went skating with the rest
of the gang. They arrived home
just in time for a super-delicious
turkey with all the trimmings.
"M-m-m-m-m!" was Charlie's
only comment.
"Wash, comb your hair
before you sit down," said
Charlie's mother.
After about three-quarters of
an hour of solid eating followed
by some televsion watching, the
family filed off to bed.
If anyone is wondering how I
know about Charlie Brown's
Christmas it is a secret between
Snoopy, me and Santa Claus.

gifts from home;
I have some food and.shelter
even if it's not very good.
Not like that little Vietnamese
boy I sa w yesterday;
As we tramped through the
remnants of his village;
Whose house was bombed and
parents killed..
Oh, how I'd love to go home
now!
The folks would be arranging all
the presents underneath the
Christmas tree,
bet; Sis would be helping
Mom get the turkey ready for
the oven,
And Dad and brother Dick
would be fixing the burnt-out
lights on the tree.
Oh, how I wanted to be home,
Away from the killing and
blood, and bombing.
Away from the whole mess!
But there's a bright outlook:
Rumour has it that our division
will be sent home by March.
But then you can never tell.
It's December 24th; tomorrow is
ceasefire.
I'd hoped to be home this
Christmas,
Just as I'd hoped last Christmas,
and the Christmas before,
Oh, well next year for sure.
