BY DEBI WOODEN What's Christmas? Well we all know the answer to that question. Its a time when we celebrate Christ's birth and Santa Claus's visit. A time when everyone is at peace with their friends and neighbours. The time when you say "Merry Christmas" to a perfect stranger and not think yourself a fool. Its a time when most of humanity joins to celebrate one of the most peaceful and beautiful times of the year. Christmas is something different to each individual. To the small child it's Santa Claus's visit and hopes for an electric train, a pair of skates or a doll. To others its a holiday, and a visit with relatives. But, to me its both these things but something different too. Christmas to me is one big wish at the end of another year. I look back and remember embarrassing, sad and wonderfully happy occasions, but more than the look at the past, I look towards the future and here I find my wish. So I would like to share with you my Christmas wish for 1969. "Oh Thank you God on this cold night, For all you've done for me. Especially so this wish of mine, Might really someday be. I wish tonight for peace on earth For every colour and creed Because dear Lord if things work out, There'd never again be greed. Then all the world would share alike. And no man would be in want, Oh, dear God, now I can see How wonderful it would be. Oh thank you God for the hope we need On this wonderful Christmas Eve." and Mrs. Charles Douglas, Staffa No. 3, Mrs. Leslie Waddell and Mrs. Filmer Chappel. Miss Vera Hambley gave a most interesting motto on Christmas customs and Christmas superstitions, Everyone enjoyed a piano instrumental "Star of the East:: played by Mrs. Robert McCaughey. Mrs. Russell Worden gave a most interesting talk and demonstration on Christmas accessories. Miss Judy Jeffery from Staffa No. 1 4-H club set up a display and gave comments on a Grooming guide for hands and nails, feet and legs. Miss Vera Hambley read two poems, What is Christmas and Friendship. Secret pals were revealed and gifts exchanged. A Christmas lunch was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Carter Kerslake, Mrs. Lloyd Miller and Mrs. Ed. Chappel. PUPILS ENTERTAIN Mrs. Ronald Kraemer and her Grade 5 and 6 pupils at Hibbert No. 4 school entertained the pre-school children, parents and friends at a Christmas party on Thursday. Plays, recitations and songs were enjoyed after which lunch was served by the teacher and pupils. Appreciation of those present was expressed by Mrs. Charles Douglas. Don't be bad By ENA VAN DER SPEK Grade 5 — Usborne Central Don't be bad kids or Santa won't come. All the elves will flip their lids, To find that in school you chewed gum All the toys for girls and boys, who do the things they should, And you'd by angry, very angry and say, I would've got toys if I were good." So don't be bad kids It's my last warning. CHRISTMAS By Diane VanBergen Grade 6 — Exeter I looked it up in the dictionary, It said a feast and all so merry, It said that Christ was born for us, And this -is really true because, Christ was born for us. It doesn't make you feel quite scrappy, It does though make you quite happy, It sounds so gay and merry, And this is not quite contrary, It's really fabulous for what it does For what it does is for Santa Claus, PERSONALS Home from school for the holidays with their families are from University of Western Ontario, Margaret Worden, Heather Daynard and Eleanor Kemp; from Beal Technical School, Miss Carol Vivian; from Goderich, Miss Brenda Kerslake; from Ridgetown, Hugh McCaughey; from Waterloo, Bill Worden and from Guelph, David Dow and Bob Templeman.
