Harold Currie as guest speaker. "The Wonderment of Christmas" was his chosen topic. President, Mrs. Thos. Brintnell, gave a Christmas message. The worship service • "Gifts for the King"was given by Mrs. Earl Kinsman with Mrs. Percy Wright assisting. Rev. Currie conducted the installation of the new officers for 1970. A donation of money will be sent to Miss Mary NiChol in India. A pot luck lunch dinner and quilting will be held at the January meeting. Thirteen christmas baskets were packed and delivered to the shut"ins of the church. Hensall and Chiselhurst UCW met in Hensall Church Monday evening for a delightful Christmas meeting. Mrs. Harry Hoy conducted a beautiful devotion when candles were lighted by Mrs. Edison Forrest, Mrs. Cecil Pepper, Mrs. Ken McLean, Miss Mary Goodwin, Mrs. Carl Passmore, Mrs. Rodger Venner. Carols were sung in honour of the founding nations of our country, the French-Canadians, the new Canadians; the Polish and the German. Mrs. Hess and Mrs. Goddard played an Indian Carol. The business portion of the meeting was held in Fellowship Hall when the leaders of the various units spoke. Mrs. Scane for Unit I and Mrs. McAllister for unit IV. Mrs. Spencer presented the treasurers statement showing the allocation paid. Miss Mary Goodwin reported for the finance committee. Reports were given as part of a skit by Mrs. Robert Reaburn, who questioned the UCW's value. PERSONALS Mrs. Rudy Zondag is spending some time at the home of her son Jack, his wife and family of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mrs. Mabel Desjardine and Mrs. Earl Little visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Maurice Desjardine of Hensall. Recent visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Les Adams were Mr. & Mrs. Ross Corbett, Steve and Jeff of Hensall; Mr. & Mrs. Rofton Finch of London; and Mrs. & Mrs. Peter' Martin and daughters of Crediton. Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Meininger visited Thursday with Mr. & Mrs. Tom Gittus, Hensall, the occasion of Mr. Gittus' 79th birthday. Mr. & Mrs. Dick Zielman and family attended a family gathering at the home of Mrs. also a report of Huronview Auxiliary. Mrs. Carl Payne submitted highlights of the area convention held at St. Thomas which she attended as a delegate. Mrs. Fred Beer presided for the program which included songs by fiv.e little girls, Betty Beer, Jennifer Cook, Beth 'Purvey, and the Boyle twins, Karen and Kim. Miss Greta Laramie was accompanist. Mr. Sam Ranme was guest soloist and also led the sing-song. Mrs. B. Beaton introduced the guest speaker Rev. W. Jarvis who spoke on "Christmas Customs throughout The World." Mrs. Elizabeth Riley gave courtesy remarks. Program conveners were Mrs. Fred Beer, and Miss Greta Lammie and hostesses were Mrs. Grace Peck and Mrs. James McAllister. Messengers set officers By MISS JEAN COPELAND WOODHAM The December meeting of the Messengers was held in the Church on Sunday with 26 present. The president opened the meeting with the call to worship. The Messenger Motto was repeated. Hymns were sung with Karen Insley and Pamela Rodd as pianists. Nancy Jaques read the scripture and Paul Brine led in prayer. Stories were read by Mrs. Glenn Copeland and Mrs. Wm. Dickey. • Readings were also given by Lori Webb, Margaret Parkinson, Linda Timms, Michelle Robinson and Vernon Thomson. Bobby Cowdrey and Paul Robinson received the offering. The business, roll call and minutes were conducted. Mrs. G. Copeland conducted a Bible study. The meeting closed with the Messenger Prayer. The election of officers for 1970 was as follows: president, Karen Insley; vice-president, Lori Webb; secretary, David Tomlinson; assistant secretary, Margaret Parkinson. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Don Brine and Cheryl were visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Ross Robinson, Lynn and Dale of Fourth Line, Saturday evening. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Johns, Linda and Mr. Paul Wallis of Granton were Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Edgar Conard and family and Mrs. Elsie Conard of Woodstock. Miss Jean Copeland was a Monday evening guest with Mr. & Mrs. Jim Mitchell, Debbie and Dianne of St. Marys. During the Church service Sunday morning, an offering plate for the choir was dedicated in memory of the late Beth Thacker, who was for years a faithful choir member and leader. The report of the nominating committee was presented by Mrs. Howard Scane, as follows: Tableau ready for presentation The young people of St. Pauls Anglican Church in Hensall have commenced a mid-week programme of religious instruction. They have prepared a Christmas tableau which will be presented in the Church on Sunday December 21 at 7 p.m. and all interested persons are invited.
