Dashwood 4-H girls and mothers guests of Institute

CENTRALIA
"What Do we know About
Christmas" was the theme for
the Christmas program presented
by the United Church. Women
on Thursday evening. There
were a number of visitors
present.
The opening number was a
piano selection by Mrs. Lorne
Hicks; a poem "Christmas" was
read by Mrs. Ken Greb, Four
Christmas carols were sung and
these were interspersed with
scripture readings and the
meditation.
A piano duet was played by
Mrs. Alvin Essery and her sister,
Mrs. Leda Sorensen. Robbie
Essery sang "Away in a manger"
and the lovely solo "0 Holy
Night" was sung by Mrs. Russell
Wilson. Mrs. Ken Hodgins played
the piano accompaniment.
The skit "Christmas the World
Around" was presented with
several members reading parts to
describe the Christmas customs
of other countries. This was
followed by a poem "For
Christmas Is" by Mrs. Earl Haist.
The program closed with prayer
by Mrs. F. Bowden.

entertainment.
Mrs. K. Greb, Mrs. F. Hicks
and Mrs. E. Haist convened the
program and were assisted by
the members on the first half of
the roll.
Mrs. S. Skinner, Mrs. H. Smith
and Mrs. Robert Wilson were
lunch conveners and were
assisted by the members on the
last half of the roll.
EUCHRE PARTY
The euchre party in the
Community Centre on Monday
night was in charge of Mr. and
Mrs, Frank Hicks and Mr. and
Mrs. Ray Shoebottom. Winning
prizes were Mrs. Clemence
Jeffrey for ladies' lone hands;
Mrs. Earl Dixon, ladies' high
score; Mary Shoebottom, low
score; men's lone hands, Percy
Noels; men's high score,
Lawrence Hirtzel; low score,
George Clark.
PERSONALS
Mr. & Mrs, Orma Pollock of
Kincardine were callers at the
home of Mrs. Lorne Hicks,
Mrs, V. Overholt, Elaine and
Pauline spent the weekend with
Mrs, Theresa Maloney in
Seaforth.

The December meeting of
Dashwood W.I. was held
Tuesday, December 2 with the
executive in charge. The 4-H
girls and their mothers were
guests and displayed their work
done for Achievement Day as
well as the skit done by club no.
1 and the commentary by
Adrianne VanRaay of club no. 2
On "Treasures in Embroidery,"
Twogirls, Darlene Rader and
Doris Webb, who had received
County honors were presented
gifts from the W.I. The leaders
Mrs. Glen Webb, Mrs. Gordon
Bender, Mrs, Leonard Schenk,
and Mrs. Stuart Wolfe were also
given gifts in appreciation for
their work.
Mrs. Howard Maier, president,
dealt with the business. There
were 29 guests and 23 members.
Roll call was answered by giving
your favourite Christmas carol.
Mrs. Irvin Rader discussed the
motto, "The Christmas Spirit."
Mrs, Glen Webb reported on
the Board of Directors meeting
held in Hensall and Mrs. Syd
Baker reported the convention.
Donations were made to the
Men's Club Christmas party for
the children and to the
Association for the Mentally
Retarded,
Accordion selections were
played by Patricia Bender, Susan
Grigg, and Adrianne VanRaay.
Two euchres are planned for
January.
Bunco was played with the
following winners: girls high,
Doris Webb; low, Marjorie
Schenk; ladies' high, Mrs. Ervin
Devine; low, Mrs. Lloyd Rader;
hidden score, Mrs. Bill Becker.

Two baby boys were baptized
in Zion Lutheran church
