By MRS. HAROLD DAVIS The December meeting of the Kirkton Horticultural Society was held Tuesday evening in Aberdeen Hall, Kirkton, which was decorated nicely for Christmas. There was a good crowd in attendance. The president Mrs. Jack Hern welcomed everyone and opened the meeting by everyone singing a Christmas carol accompanied by Mrs. Fred Switzer at the piano. Mrs. Ernest Peterson introduced Mr. Paul Thomsen from the University of Western Ontario who spoke on the care of Christmas flowers. Mr. Thomsen is a native of Denmark. Miss Anna Peterson showed pictures of the Florist Gift Show in Toronto and the Strathroy Horticulture Show. Mrs. James MacDougald gave several readings. By MRS, Wil.LIAM ROHDE THAMES ROAD Saturday evening the annual Christmas concert was held with a good attendance, Mr. Jack Stewart, assistant superintendent, was chairman of the program which consisted of piano solos, choral readings, dialogues and recitations. Rev. Stewart Miner spoke a few words. Santa Claus arrived and many gifts were received from a well decorated and ladened tree. WHITE GIFT SERVICE Sunday morning the annual White Gift combined service was held. The call to worship was given by Miss Nancy Alexander. Miss Margaret Hunkin gave a reading and also led in prayer. Mr, Brian Miller read the scripture lesson. A number of Christmas carols were sung. Miss Judy Mayer read a story "Merry Christmas", Rev. Stewart Miner led in prayer. Mrs. Miner told the Christmas Story to the children. "A Christmas Letter" was read by Miss Nancy Alexander. The Young People's Bible Class put on a drama which was very interesting. Mr. & Mrs. Claire Sisson attended the funeral of Irwin Barnes of Ailsa Craig on Wednesday. Mr. & Mrs. Gladwyn Hooper and Jeanette spent the weekend with Miss Veryl Hooper, Toronto. Mr. Leonard Thacker, Linda, Cathy and Joy were Sunday guests of Mr. & Mrs. Peter Vanexan and Lisa of Baden. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs. Andrew Knox and family in the sudden passing of Andrew Knox. Stewart Miner closed the service, UNITED CHURCH WOMEN The December meeting of the United Church Women was held on Thursday evening with a good crowd in attendance. Mrs. Lorne 13allantyne and Mrs. John Pym were hostesses. Quiet Christmas music was played on a record player. Mrs. Mac Hodgert opened the meeting with a Christmas tall to worship. Those assisting with the worship service, were Mrs. Ken Duncan, Mrs. Fleming Simpson and Mrs. Hodgert. Christmas carols were sung. Mrs. Ken Duncan gave a stewardship reading. Piano solos were played by Mrs. Alvin Passmore. A reading "A Christmas Message" was given by Mrs. Mac Hodgert and one on "Friendship" by Mrs. Fleming Simpson. Mrs. William Rohde, president, opened the business part of the meeting with a thought "What is Christmas?" It was decided to go to Braemor Lodge Nursing Home Exeter on Tuesday afternoon. The president then thanked all those for their support during the last two years. The meeting was closed with a Christmas prayer. Lunch was served by Group two under the leadership of Mrs. Ross Hodgert. PERSONALS Miss Doris Elford, Mrs. Ross Hodgert, Mrs. George Kellett and Mrs. William Rohde attended the Christmas meeting of the Kirkton Horticultural Society at Aberdeen Hall, Kirkton, on 'Tuesday evening. The executive of the United Church Women catered to the council banquet on Wednesday evening in the church basement. Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde visited Friday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Melvin Gardiner, Exeter. Patricia Miner of Sarnia and Sharon Passmore of Rodney spent the weekend at their respective homes. Mr. & Mrs. Ken Duncan, Mr, & Mrs. Robert Mayer visited on Wednesday afternoon with Mr. Ken Mayer, Grand Forks, Columbia, at the home of Mr. Mrs, Gordon Mayer, London. Mr. & Mrs. Donald Mayer, London, also visited with them. Mr. Ken Mayer is a brother of Robert Mayer. He was_ on a business trip to Timmins and also to General. Motors, London. A number of people attended the con' Vesper Service in the Church Sunday evening.
