Rev. W.D. Jarvis conducted
baptism service in Carmel
Presbyterian Church on Sunday,
when the infant daughter of Mr.
& Mrs. Bevan Bonthron was
baptized. The Sacrament of the
Lord's Supper will be celebrated
next Sunday, December 14 at 10
a.m. and White Gift Sunday will
be December 21.

Church women
mark Christmas
The Christmas meeting of
unit 4 of Hensall UCW was held
Thursday afternoon December 4
in Fellowship Hall beautifully
decorated by hostess Mrs. R.J.
Paterson.
Mrs. J. McAllister presided
and opened with invocation.
A highlight of the program
was a piano duet by Mrs. T.
Sherritt and Mrs. Grace Harpole,
playing a medley of Christmas
hymns.
Mrs. Harold Currie conducted
a carol and candle lighting
service with Mrs. Stanley
Mitchell as candle lighter and
Mrs. Mickle as pianist.
The study, on keeping
Christmas and taken from Miss
Ethel Chapman's book entitled
"From a roadside window", was
given by Mrs. R.M. Peck.
The treasurer's report showed
a very good financial year.
Visitation reports totalled 79
calls.
There were 24 members and
two visitors present.
Mrs. McAllister reported a
large box of nylons and used
cards had been delivered and
accepted at the Blue Water Rest
Home.
Gifts wrapped and marked
for the collection for Goderich
Psychiatric Hospital are to be
brought in at the general
meeting on December 15 or on
Sunday.
The bale of seven large boxes
contained a lot of good clothing
and was dispatched to Toronto
after packing.
The Christmas general
meeting will be held in the
Hensall organizations are
planning a giant Winter Carnival
January 30 and 31, Feb. 1. All
proceeds from the carnival will
be turned over to the arena for
repairs.
Hensall Kinsmen plans to
entertain Senior Citizens Dec.
18th.
Mr. & Mrs. Mumey Twitchell,
Kimberley and Jamie of
London, visited over the
weekend with Mrs. Verna
Twitchell.
Bradley Mousseau has
returned home from a two
months tour of the Southern
United States.
Mrs. Ken McLean of Hensall
has received her five year
Leadership Award recently in
4-H Club work.
William Brock of London,
England and Don Brock of
Stayner, spent the weekend with
their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Russell
Brock.
Miss Ann Mickle who is
attending Althouse College in
London, will be teaching two
weeks of this month in Waterloo
and while there will be staying
with her sister and
brother-in-law Mr. & Mrs. Ross
MacMillan and family.

attended the Synod Christian
Education meeting in St. George
Presbyterian Church, London
Tuesday and Wednesday last
week.
Mr. Glen Love of Sudbury
attended the funeral of his sister,
the late Mrs. Albert Keys on
Friday and also visited with his
sister, Mrs. J.E. McEwen.
Native of area
dies in detroit
Mrs. Sam Oesch received
word of the sudden death of her
youngest brother Frank Bedard
of Detroit, Michigan, a former
native of Hay Township who
died suddenly at his home
November 30th. He was 66.
Surviving are his wife and
four sons, one brother, Oliver,
Sarnia, two sisters, Mrs. Oesch,
Hensall, and Mrs. Annie Grigg,
London and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in
Detroit, Michigan Wednesday,
December 3.
Attending the funeral were
Mrs. Oesch of Hensall, Mr. &
Mrs. Russell Oesch and Mrs. Earl
Flaxbard of Zurich.
New members
join Auxiliary
President Mrs. Garnet Allan
presided over the regular
meeting of the Ladies Legion
when three Auxiliary new
members, Mrs. Alice Koehler,
Mrs. Hein Rooseboom and Mrs.
J.B. Randall were initiated into
the organization.
It was announced that the
Christmas party for the children
of the members will be held
Sunday December 21. A
donation was given to the local
association of Guides and
Brownies.
The group will cater to a
wedding and banquet this
month. Plans were made for a
New Years dance.
Prizes won were: mystery,
Mrs. Wm Smale; guessing, Mrs.
Grant McClinchey; attendance,
Mrs. Vic Stan; special Christmas
draw Mrs. Wm Smale and Mrs.
Harold Thiel. Twenty-nine
members were present and
exchanged gifts.

The Hensall United Church
Messengers held their Christmas
meeting on Saturday, December
6. There were seventeen children
present.
The meeting opened with
prayer and a carol.
Julie Mock read a poem
"Why Jesus Came" followed by
the Christmas story of the Birth
of Jesus.
Marilyn Pepper read a poem
"In Loving and in Giving", after
which Melissa Veal received the
offering. The prayer of
dedication was given by Mary
Jane McGregor.
Mrs. Christie told the story of
"The First Christmas Tree."
Mrs. Pepper lead the children
in the singing of Christmas
songs. After the children
finished making Christmas cards,
they all enjoyed the lunch and

for HI-C work
The regular "Sit-In" session
of Hensall United Church Hi-C
was held on Sunday evening
with Shirley Brintnell and Jean
Cole convening the program.
Shirley spoke on "'Alienation
and Reconciliation". She said,
"Life explodes just when we
think things are rolling along
satisfactorily and we have to
cope with Alienation and
estrangement. It happens
between ourselves and our
parents, our brothers and sisters,
our neighbours, the kids at
school and even with our
teachers and leaders."
A discussion period followed
on Power Breaks in our society.
Jean Cole led the groups
Meditation on "I, Myself."
President Donna Forrest
conducted the business and it
was reported that 100 calendars
had been sold in Hensall and
Chiselhurst congregations.
Six hampers of tinned foods
were also received on Sunday
morning by the two
congregations.
Chiselhurst as well
contributed lingerie and nylons
to be sent with the canned goods
to the Teen Girls Home in
London.
The group voted to send
Nancy Forrest as their delegate.
to attend the Thirteenth Annual
Toc Alpha Youth Conference on
Alcoholism and Drug Education
to be held at the Sheraton-
Brock Hotel in Niagara Falls
during Christmas vacation. The
theme will be, "I stand alone."
The Hi-C will finance this
project themselves.
