MOTZ Eber Lewis who has been a patient in South Huron Hospital for the past few weeks, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage but is improving nicely and expects to be home in a week or two. Marvin. Wein who has been a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, for the past three weeks with a serious compound fracture to his left leg, has been advised by his doctor that he is over the crisis, and will have a third operation on his leg this week. Marvin hopes to be home for Christmas. Victor Green returned home last week after being a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mr. & Mrs. Stan Preszcator and girls and Murray Glanville of Exeter spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. & Mrs. Ron Foran of RR 2 Blyth. Mr. & Mrs. Foran's daughter Karen is still a patient in Wingham General Hospital. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Dye and grandson Chris, visited Sunday with Mrs. Bob Dolphin of St. Thomas and also with Bob who is in the hospital. Fenton opened the meeting with business, A short report of the year's activities were read by the secretary, Mrs. Marjorie Steeper, Mrs. Howard Fenton and Mrs. Wilbert Lewis reported on their year's work as Sunshine conveners. Mrs, Fraser Dixon gave treasurer report up to date, It was decided to remember the shut-ins at Christmas. Mrs. H. B. Johnson then installed the new slate of officers. Mrs. Jack Hodgson then took over for latter part of the meeting by giving the devotion. A carol was sung and followed by prayer. Mrs. Wm. Fenton read the scripture and a poem "Royal Birth". Karen Hodgson favoured us with a piano instrumental. Mrs. George Lee read a poetn "Mother Musing." Mrs. J. Hodgson gave a reading "Slow me Down Lord." The guest speaker for the evening was Mrs. H, B. Johnson. She took for her address "Christmas, a Bore or a Blessing to Mothers of today." This was followed by a tape entitled "Green Christmas," which was a satire on the commercialization of Christmas. Exchange of gifts followed. WMS watch Biafra film By MRS. VVELLWOOD GILL Mr. and Mrs. Harold Walper, Grand Bend celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at the Dominion Hotel, Zurich, November 29. They were married in 1919 at the Presbyterian manse at Wilton Grove with Rev. John Crawford officiating. All of their married life was spent on a Mollard line farm except for the past seven years which they have lived in Grand Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Walper have one daughter, Mrs. Wally (Helen) Becker, New Hamburg and one son, Alan who lives on the home farm with his family. They also have six grandchildren. ORPHA CLUB The Orpha Club was entertained at the home of Mrs. Roy Flear with co-conveners, Mrs. Agnes Smith and Mrs. Val Burke to a Christmas Party on Tuesday evening, December 2. The evening was spent playing Rebekahs plan secret pal party Pride of Huron Rebekah Lodge No. 338 IOOF held its first meeting in December on Wednesday with a good attendance. Cookies were brought in to this meeting for shut-in gifts and the committee gave to December 11 for further donations. The next meeting will be the Christmas meeting with exchange of small gifts and social hour. The charter was draped in memory of the Past President of the Rebekah Assembly, Christine Allan. Sister Marion Skinner rendered a solo. The Vice Grand Gladys Skinner reported on the sick"and shut-ins and sympathy was extended to the family of Sister Keyes, Mary Gardiner reported she had called on a member who hadn't been out for some time and N.G. Mary Fisher stated that another member had been visited also. Information re cards of transfer is awaited. Acknowledgement of Children's Aid gift was received. Cups and saucers and playing cards for committees concerned have been purchased. Sister Irene Pepper has some boxes of Christmas cards still. The Secret Pal Sisters' Party will be first meeting in January. By MISS P.LA MORLOCK The UCW of Zion United Church held their Christmas meeting Thursday evening, December 4, The program was under the direction of Mrs. Emmery Fahrner, assisted by Mrs. Douglas Warren, Mrs, Howard Lightfoot, Miss Laura Mathers, Mrs, Cliff Brock and Mrs. Doug Galloway, There was a duet by Ruth and Debbie Finkbeiner, and a solo by Mrs. Galloway, Poems and stories portraying the spirit of Christmas in Canada were read, and the readings were interspersed by the singing of carols. There was an exercise in decorating the tree. As each ornament was added, its religious symbolism was explained. Mrs. Earl Neil, president, took charge of the business session. World Day of Prayer on March 6 was announced. Sums of money were voted to Five Oaks, to the local church treasury and to the Sunday School, It was decided to cater to the Soil and Crop Improvement banquet in February. Committee heads presented annual reports. Four crib quilts, prepared by the Explorers and assembled and quilted by members of the UCW were On display, Two quilts are being sent to • the Children's Aid Society at Goclerich, and two to a Mission Hospital in British Columbia. Mrs. Cliff Kenney of the Nominating Committee read the slate of officers for 1970, and Rev. Warren directed a ceremony of induction. Officers for 1970 are: President, Mrs. Ed Finkbeiner, vicepresidents, Mrs, Bob. Reid, and Miss Ella Morlock; secretary, Mrs. Russell Finkbeiner; corresponding secretary and pianist, Mrs. Gordon Finkbeiner; treasurer, Mrs. Ross Krueger. Conveners of committees: Good Cheer, Mrs. Reid supply, Mrs. Ed Hendrick; manse, Mrs. Ed. Lamport; membership, Mrs. Harold Fahner; social, Mrs. Kenney; Christian Stewardship, Mrs, Roy Rats; Christian citizenship and social action, Mrs. Emerson Wenzel; literature, Mrs. Warren; missionary education and Explorers, Mrs. Walter Fydenchuk; nominating committee: Mrs. Lloyd Lamport and Mrs. Neil. Auditors: Mrs. Ervin Ratz and Mrs. Howard Lightfoot. Mrs. Gordon Ratz expressed appreciation to Mrs. Neil for her work as president. PERSONALS Mr. & Mrs. Ross Krueger and Mr. & Mrs, Robert Crawford entertained the Krueger family at a Christmas party in the Community Hall, Sunday. Relatives were present from Windsor, Watford, Waterloo, Oshawa, Scarborough and Newmarket. Mrs. Lome Morlock is a patient at Victoria Hospital, Mrs, Tony Martens has been transferred from South Huron Hospital to St. Joseph's, London. Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Norah Tauber, grandmother of Mrs. Howard Zurbrigg. Santa visits at Sorority party A delightful Christmas party for the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and guests was held at the Albatross Room, Huron Park, Tuesday evening, Jolly Santa Claus appeared and distributed the gifts. Mrs. Ersman presided. Mrs. J. Pryde read the devotional prepared by Mrs. Manson. Mrs. Moore was convener of the programme and introduced guests, Cynthia and Bruce Gunn, who provided a delightful musical number. Mr. Cyril Gingerich of Zurich was introduced and he spoke and showed slides of Biafra. Mr. Gingerich spent eight years in Biafra as a hospital administrator. During that time he worked closely with Dr. Johnston and other officials of the Presbyterian Church there. In his address, accompanied by slides, he expressed great concern for the people whom he had found so happy and so friendly during normal times, even though their living S conditions by our standards were so poor, and their worldly possessions so scarce. He feels that the churches are a common meeting ground of all communities — even among non-Christians and that it is • through their assistance that some relief may be accomplished.
