TOWNSHIP OF HAY
Girls create
decorations
Christmas is for children and
one way you can get them
involved is to let them make
these simple decorations for the
tree. •
Mix flour, salt and water in
proportions of about 1 cup of
flour to 1/3 cup 'of salt and
enough water to make a soft
pliable dough. This can be rolled
out and cut with cookie cutters
or molded into fanciful shapes
and characters.
Decorate with 'gems' pried
from old jewellery, beads, small
marbles, sequins and sparkle.
Push a paper clip in the top
of each shape so they can be
hung.
To finish off place the
"cookies" in a slow oven (about
150) and leave until thoroughly
dry.
When cooled slip a piece of
ribbon through the paper clip
and you've got some new,
inexpensive and pretty
decorations for your tree.

4-H MEMBERS VIEW WORK — Lynn Faber, Barb Dougall and Lori Sims admire some of the
embroidery of their Hurondale No. 2 club at achievement day.
Eleven 4-H Clubs participated
in the Needlecraft Achievement
Day, Saturday, at South Huron
District High School.
If embroidery is a dying craft
the girls of this area displayed a
very lively corpse in their
demonstrations, exhibits and
skits.
In the club just completed the
girls were taught the seven basic
stiches of needlecraft. Putting
this knowledge to use they then
produced an article which used
at least three of these stitches.
The result was a colorful and
exciting exhibition of work.
Besides their own embroidery
the members also had displays
which featured Embroidery
From Other Lands; Treasurers in
Embroidery, and The Sampler of
Great Grandmother's Day.
From other lands there was
needlecraft of India, Serbia,
Norway, China and Yugoslavia.
One display was made up
completely of beautiful work
from Holland.
The Treasurers in Embroidery
THREE LITTLE GIRLS, Judy and
Pridham work happily on the
first stage of their Christmas tree
decorations.
