Last spring the provincial
government finalized plans to
establish an Ontario Regional
Veterinary Services Laboratory
on the campus of the Centralia
College of Agriculture
Technology, Huron Park,
At the same time, it was
decided to move the Animal
Health Technicians Course from
the college at Ridgetown to the
one at Huron Park where the
facilities of the new laboratory
would be available,
Three key men were
appointed to fill the positions
opened by these moves. They
were Dr. Thomas Pridham, head
of the Veterinary Laboratory;
Dr. R. Doidge, co-ordinator of
the A.H.T,C. and Dr. Gary
Balsdon, assistant to Dr. Doidge.
All three purchased homes in
Exeter and moved their families
here during the summer.
I spent .a most pleasant
afternoon speaking with their
lovely, talented wives. I feel
sure, they as well as their
husbands, will contribute much
to our community.
Interested in Antiques
A vivacious brunette, Donna
Pridham is the mother of five
lively children whose ages range
from thirteen years to five years
old. Busy as she is she still finds
time for many other interests
and hobbies.
Mrs. Pridham loves music,
plays the piano herself and
oversees the practising of three
children who are taking lessons.
She has an avid interest in
antiques and owns a fine
collection of shaving mugs and
mustache cups.
When I visited her she was in
the throes of restoring several
MRS. THOMAS PRIDHAM
old frames and mounting in
them some quaint old prints.
Several pieces of furniture are
in different stages of refinishing
in the garage of her home.
"It's great therapy ” , she
exclaimed, "when I feel like
letting off steam and maybe
saying something I'd be sorry for
later, I go out and sand the old
paint off a chair!"
With two of her children she
collects stamps and they possess a
world wide collection,
The Pridhams purchased a
lovely, new red brick residence
on the corner of Edward and
Huron Streets, Mrs. Pridham, a
lover of flowers, is already
planning. the flower garden she
will start next spring,
Raised on a small fruit farm
near Guelph, she was working in
that city when she met her
husband on a blind date while he
was a student at the university.
They have moved eight times
since they were married in 1955.
While Mrs. Pridham still thinks
of Guelph as home she is hoping
the family will put down roots
here for many years.
Designs own Clothes
Mrs. Gary Baldson is a chic,
pretty blond Home Economist
who graduated from Guelph
eat the
University, She majored in
Clothing and Textiles and has
the know-how and talent to
design and sew many of her own
clothes,
A fine cook, .she likes to
branch away from ordinary
recipes on special occasions.
When entertaining she will
sometimes select a theme and a
country and plan her whole
menu around this. She possesses
an impressive coqk book library.
Th is w inter Dorothy is
enrolled in a pottery course
which she says, she "thoroughly
enjoys."
Before moving with her
husband to Ridgetown in 1968,
where he taught at the
MRS, BALDSON
Agriculture College, she, herself
taught the Home Economics
course at Arthur High School
and Welland Centennial
Secondary School.
When they came to Exeter
last summer they purchased the
stately old home on4" Albert
Street, which was owned by Mr.
& Mrs. Claude Farrow.
Since moving in they have
both been busy painting and
papering and making plans for
further renovations in the
future.
Mrs. Balsdon finds the
restoration plans exciting and
hopes to keep the decor in
keeping with the age and
character of the house.
They have one child, a little
boy David, who is one year old,
Members of the Anglican
church, Mrs. Balsdon says she"
and her husband like Exeter very
much,
In the summer they were

Misses Gladys and Minnie
Kestle had the pleasure of a visit
from their niece Shirley and her
husband Keith Colby recently.
It has been twenty-four years
since the Colby's left Canada to
make their home in Mr. Colby's
native land, Australia.
Eleven years ago they visited
Canada and stayed with Mrs.
Colby's father, Luther Penhale.
Their daughter Susan and son
'Peter were with them at that
time. Susan is now an
occupational therapist and is
married. Peter is studying
electronics and workin in a TV
station for the Australian
Broadcasting Co. in Melbourne.
Friends and relatives found it
very interesting to hear news,
views and customs of Australia
told with such a delightful
accent.
The Colby's enjoyed a trip to
Kentucky with Mr. and Mrs, Wm
Ellerington, the latter being a
sister of Mrs. Colby.
