receive Bibles
The South Huron Gideons
Ladies' Auxiliary pleasantly
entertained the R.N.A. students
of South Huron Hospital on
Wednesday evening. Mrs. Earl
Desch, President, was chair lady
and welcomed the class and
guests.
The Scripture lesson was read
by Mrs. Squire Herdman.
Mrs. Jack Thompson of
Seaforth gave the address.
Mrs. Joe Chapman and Miss
Louise Talbot of Bayfield sang
two duets entitled "All That
Thrills My Soul Is Jesus" and
"I've Given My Life,"
accompanied by Miss Sandy
Ostrom of Zurich.
Mrs. Mina Talbot and Mrs.
Squire Herdrnan presented the
students with Bibles and also
made the presentation of a white
Bible to Mrs. Jean Wilson,
director of nurses.
Mrs. Edgar Cudmore gave the
prayer of dedication.
Mrs. Wilson thanked the
auxiliary on behalf of the class
for the gifts.
Games and contests were
enjoyed followed by
refreshments.

Word was received of the
death of Mr. Garnet
Smallapombe of Guelph,
formerly of Hensall, who passed
away Friday, November 14 hl
Guelph Hospital.
Mr. Smallacombe,. a former
Hensall native was the third
child to be born in the village.
He was 92.
He is survived by a son and a
daughter.
Funeral services were held
Monday, November 17 at the 0,
McIntyre Funeral Home,
Guelph.
Mrs, C. Faber, RR 3, Exeter,
is a niece of Mr. Smallacombe.

family, Toronto, spent the
weekend with Mr. & Mrs. N. E.
Cook,
Mrs. Pearl Shaddick has
returned from a weeks visit with
her son and daughter-in-law Mr.
& Mrs. Bill Shaddick, London,

Catharine, Mr. & Mrs. Sim.

christening of Joan Elizabeth,
infant daughter of Mr. & Mrs.

Sunday at Caven United Church,

Mr. Barry Mousseau, Hensall
was presented with a
Donnybrook Roughrider High
Point Trophy for 1969 plus
three challenge trophies for
Western games at their Saddle
Club banquet November 15th at
Dorchester.
Mrs. Eric Kennedy is
vacationing with relatives in
Fenelon Falls, Ont.
Mr. & Mrs. Jack Consitt were
in Guelph on Sunday and called
at the G. McIntyre Funeral
Home, Guelph, to pay their
respects to the late Mr. Garnet
Smallacombe.
Mrs. Edgar Cudmore and Mrs.
Harold Parker, in company with
Mrs. Elsie Keyes, Mitchell,
attended the wedding of George
Keyes, Toronto and Miss Susan
Anderson, Oakville in St. Paul's
United Church, Oakville,
•turday.
Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Holland
and Gwen of Clinton visited this
week with Mr. & Mrs. Jim
Sangster and Bradley.
Miss Patricia Lemmon of
London visited over the
weekend with Mrs. Leona Parke,
Mr. & Mrs. D. M. Fowler of
Goderich visited this week with
Mrs. John E. McEwen and also
with Mr. McEwen who is a
patient at the Blue Water Rest
Home.

Blind canvass
breaks record
Erie Luther, chairman of the
campaign for the Canadian
National Institute for the Blind
reports that the canvass yielded
$586,88.
This is the highest amount
ever recorded for the Hensall
area.
Mr. Luther expresses sincere
appreciation to all who donated,
and to the following groups who
assisted with the canvass: The
Women's Institute, The Arnold
Circle, The Rebekah Lodge, and
the Legion Ladies Auxiliary,

Public Relations was the
theme of Hensall WI November
meeting Wednesday' evening with
president Mrs. Clarence Reid
presiding.
Announcement was made of
the 4-H Achievement Day will
be held at Zurich November
29th,anyone interested in going
to contact the president.
An invitation was accepted to
attend the Hurondale WI
meeting November 26,
Mrs. Grace Peck gave reports
of South Huron Hospital
Auxiliary meeting and
Huronview Auxiliary meeting.
Christmas Fair will be held at
Huronview December 1st.
Mrs. Robert Simpson
presented a report on Historical
Society at Goderich. She also
read a news bulletin of the
Association for the Retarded.
A Christmas donation to the
Childrens Aid Society
amounting to $20.90 will be
forwarded.
Mrs. Beverly Beaton chaired
the program.
Mrs. Keith Westlake and
daughter Elaine of Zurich
showed lovely slides and
narrated their recent trip to
Zurich, Switzerland.
Marc and Mozart Gelinas, of
Zurich, entertained with solos
and guitar selections.
Mrs. Alex McBeath gave a
reading "When Pa broke his
arm."
Mrs. Fred Beer gave courtesy
remarks.
Program conveners were Mrs.
Pearl Koehler and Mrs. B.
Beaton. Hostesses were Mrs.
John Skea and Mrs. Len Purdy.

Anglican ladies elect
new slate of officers
The 5th birthday of Lynne Mrs. Alma Hess. is visiting

The annual meeting of St.
Paul's Anglican Church Women
was held at the home of Mrs.
Mary Taylor.
Mrs. Annie Reid, president
opened the meeting with the
reading of "Come Ye Apart"
from the Living Message. Bible
verses were read by Mrs. Frank
Forrest.
A report was given by Mrs.
Scrabuik on the successful
bazaar, bake sale and tea held in
the church basement on October
18th.
A vote of thanks was given to
all who donated their valuable
time and to ail those who
patronized and made it so
successful.
Mrs. George Anderson
presented a very interesting
report on the recent Deanery
meeting conducted at
Kincardine.
The Rev, G. A, Anderson
took the chair for the election of
officers for 1970.
The new slate of officers are:

Vice president, Mrs. Mary
Taylor; Secretary, Mrs. Vic Stan;

Ladies executive
will close books
The executive meeting of the
United Church Women of
Hensall United Church met
Monday evening with the
president, Mrs. Vern Alderdice
presiding with an attendance of
17.
Plans were made to close the
books by November 30 in order
that the report can be given to
Mrs, Sawyer of Mitchell before
December 15.
Hensall United Church Hi-C
held their regular "Sit-In" on
Sunday evening with their usual
Coffee Shop atmosphere.
Conveners for the evening
were Carmen Currie, Pam Mickle
and Jill Drysdale.
Following a fun sing-along
and group meditation, Carmen
introduced the course of action
for the coming season "No
Longer Strangers". She
explained the four point
program of "Reconciliation in a
Broken World" using the basic
topics Poverty, the have so much
and have so little people;

John E. Boyd
dies after crash
John E. (Jack) Boyd, 35, 58
Paddington St., London, passed
away Saturday, November 15, in
Victoria Hospital, London. He
died from brain and chest
injuries received in an accident
on September 16. He never
regained consciousness.
He was returning home from
work on Highway 401 during a
rainstorm when his car skidded
and crashed into an abutment.
Mr. Boyd is survived by his
widow the former Marie Pullman
of Seaforth, and three sons
Danny, Donald and Douglas,
two daughters Brenda and
Barbara, all at home; his mother,
Mrs. Cornelius Faber, RR 3
Exeter; two step-sisters Lynne
and Patsy; one step-brother
Stephen Faber, RR 3 Exeter.
The pallbearers were Art
Traquair, Clifford Smallacombe,
Leroy Peters, George Clamtitt,
Art Parker and Gerald Moir.
Public funeral services were
held from Bonthron Funeral
Home, Hensall, Monday,
November 17 and were
conducted by Rev. Harold F.
Currie. Burial was in Hensall
Union Cemetery.
