blank Dominions, Sunday
The Exeter Hawks got off to
a good start in the 1969-70
season of the Ontario Hockey
Association Junior "D" grouping
by winning two of their first
three games.
The Hawks under new coach
Bob White opened the season
with an 8-4 win over the
Lambeth Flyers in Lambeth,
Wednesday night. On home ice
Friday night, they dropped an
8-4 decision to the Mitchell
Hawks and got back on the right
side of the ledger in Zurich
Sunday afternoon with a 3-0
blanking over the Zurich
Dominions.
Also on Wednesday, the
Lucan Irish Six came from
behind to outscore the Zurich
Dominions by a score of 6-3 on
Lucan ice.
Last night, Wednesday, the
Hawks were in Lucan to take on
the Irish Six and Friday night
they will be home at the Exeter
arena to the Lambeth Flyers.
QUICK GOALS DECIDE

Zurich player resting in the
penalty box. John Braid put the
score to 2-0 completing a
three-way passing effort with
Randy Parsons and Ron Moore.
At 8.55 of the final session,

Elder.

started. Randy Parsons, the only
double scorer for the Hawks
started the ball rolling at 3.15

FOR ALIL GOOD SPORTS
By Ross Haugh
More
ac tivities
The activities planned for district youngsters this
year by RAP and recreation director Alvin Willert has
increased considerably.
Minor hockey registration has reached its highest
figure in many years with more than 200 boys out every
Saturday in an effort to further their skills that could
lead to a professional hockey career.
We spent a few minutes at the arena Saturday
morning to watch the four-to-six year olds in action and
we would recommend this to anyone that wishes to see
how much desire to play hockey these kids have.
A lot of them are just learning to skate, but they
sure try and do have a lot of fun, Credit is due to the
coaches who come out every Saturday morning to help
the boys head in the right direction.
The Exeter Figure Skating club headed by
president Mrs. Harry Dougherty is again back in full
swing with also a record number of youngsters taking
lessons from club professional, Mrs. Faye McDonald.
The young figure skaters have the ice for four and
a half hours each Monday afternoon and evening, two
hours near the supper hour on Wednesday and three
hours each Sunday evening.
Minor bowling is also back in full swing at the
Exeter Bowling Lanes under the capable guidance of
Mrs. Pete Durand.
Added this year are classes for ballet and
gymnastics. The ballet lessons are taught each Saturday
morning in the old gym at South Huron District High
School with Miss Debi Wooden as the instructor.
Mothers of the aspiring ballet dancers have
formed an executive and are taking care of a lot of the
supervision involved.
In the afternoon, Mrs. Matty Francis of Ballet is
in charge of gymnastic instruction. Any boys and girls
up to 14 years of age that still wish to participate m this
course should contact Alvin Willert or be at the new
gym at SHDHS Saturday afternoon.
A fee of five dollars is necessary to take care of
the expense involved in this valuable physical fitness
training.
Lots of Action
If the first week of action in the district Junior
"D" grouping of the Ontario Hockey Association is any
indication fans of the area are in for an exciting winter
of hockey.
All teams have shown they are quite capable of
turning in a good brand of hockey as the scores would
indicate. The new Zurich Dominions downed Lambeth
in their first contest and were then edged by both the
Lucan Irish and the Exeter Hawks.
To confuse the issue a little Belmont downed
Lucan in their first outing.
Hockey Clinics on Tap
The Western Ontario Athletic Association is
offering hockey coaching and refereeing clinics again
this year in an attempt to provide a better and more
pleasing brand of hockey.
For district officials the closest referee clinic will
be held at the Zurich arena on Saturday, December 13
from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 in the afternoon.
The other classes for referees will be at Hanover
on November 22 and Milverton the following Saturday.
The only coaches clinic will be staged at the Milverton
arena on Sunday, December 14, also an all-day affair.
For the benefit of anyone wishing to attend, the
charge for referee is two dollars and one dollar for
coaches.
Correction
On last week's sports pages, a picture of the OBA
champion Dashwood Tigers was used and one error was
made in naming the persons shown.
The very efficient bat boy for the Tigers is Teddy
Ducharme.

The Lucan Merton Jets kept
their unbeaten record intact in
Ontario Hockey Association
Intermediate "B" play this
season with back-to-back
victories over the Elmira Polar
Kings, in this past week,
Steve Storey's Jets after an
easy 24-1 win over Georgetown
in the league opener, blanked
the Polar Kings 4.0 in Elmira,
Friday and came back to the
Huron Park arena Tuesday night
to down the same Elmira club
by a score of 7.4.
The Jets next see action in
Georgetown, Sunday afternoon
at 2,30 and then take on the
Durham Huskies, Tuesday night
at Centralia at 8.30.
ROBB LEADS JETS
High flying Jamie Robb
paced the Jets in their 7-4 win
over Elmira, Tuesday in a game
that was in doubt until the final
two minutes of play.
In addition to scoring twice,
Robb gained three assists in
setting up his team-mates for
scoring plays.
The visitors from Elmira took
a two goal lead in the first ten
minutes of play before the
Lucan-Ilderton boys caught fire
and skated off at the first
intermission with a 2-2 tie.
Eric Plein and Philip Hahn
were the early scorers for the
Polar Kings. At 12.12 Steve
Proctor, another two-goal sniper
for the Jets opened his club's
scoring completing a three-way
passing effort with Robb and
defenceman Doug Galloway who
was making his first league start
after suffering an injury in
exhibition play.
With only 37 seconds left in
the first frame, Galloway blasted
a shot into the Elmira cage
behind veteran goalie Zenas
Buehler. Jack Nairn picked up
an assist on the play.
Elmira again went to the
front in the second period on a
goal by Jorn Hansen at 6.42.
Proctor evened the count at
11.10 and less than three
minutes later Jamie Robb scored
his first of the night to put the
Jets in front to stay.
Veteran defenceman Don
Urbshott went in alone to deke a
lone defender and score a nice
goal at 5.05 of the final session
after taking a pass from Robb.
Hahn fired his second goal of
the night at 12.43 to put the
Polar Kings within one of tying
before the Jets connected twice
in the last two minutes.

By CLARE STANLEY
The Lucan Irish Six got back
on the right track with a 6-3
victory over the Zurich
Dominions in Lucan Wednesday
in OBA Junior "D" action.
In exact contrast from their
last game in Belmont, the Irish
stayed out of the penalty with
some consistency and were able
to skate from behind to gain the
win.
Dave Revington spearheaded
the Lucan scoring with three
goals for his night's work. The
balance of the Irish goals were
scored in single fashion by Mike
Anderson, Gord Hardy, and Ken
Needham.
Stu Mustard, Rich Schilbe
and captain Ron Corriveau
scored for Doug O'Brien's
Dominions.
Manager Jim Freeman and
coach John Anderson were
pleased with the play of the Irish
youngsters as they outshot
Zurich by 31 shots to 23.
The management feels the
acquisition of one additional
seasoned defenceman is
necessary to complete a
satisfactory roster for the season
ahead.
